I think it was more getting one done to stop the questions. It speaks more to the fact he was never leaving Michigan in the first place after Woody got another year. Now you could, I suppose, hope that was because he (Dusty) knew he wouldn’t even be considered due to Dolson having someone else not currently coaching already locked up, but I find that highly unlikely. The most logical explanation is Dusty told us no, and knew nothing he could say would stop speculation sans extension. My opinion? Dusty was never leaving a high major that he liked after one season, and probably was never a realistic candidate.

Yea if Dusty and Brad are off the board, it needs to be full court press on Drew and then Otz, which unfortunately means this goes for a while. It’s gonna be a long March

Do you think it’s possible the main thing here with the silence and lack of firmer public ‘no’ is simply because Stevens hasn’t told Dolson no? If Dolson hasn’t been told no, there’s no reason to think he’s moved on to sitting coaches, hence, little to no agent noise leaking out to insiders.

One thing I come back to is simply how weak of a denial it was. These guys know how words are perceived and how any statement would be interpreted with the IU job being open. The fact remains they could have really shut it down on the record. They had to know “not a candidate” wouldn’t kill the speculation completely. Or, he’s so uninterested and cares so little they were essentially hand waving the possibility as absurd. Which is entirely possible, he is running the Boston Celtics after all lol.

That’s not entirely true. The nba does not have a monopoly on headhunters or personnel movements being news internally. Obviously it’s not national, but in a specific industry, it can be very similar. That was my only point. I don’t think Brad Stevens is going to coach IU my man. Merely stating that in my own experience, an owner or CEO being the only people that know and keeping their traps shut isn’t that uncommon. Cheers.

This part of the Stevens saga is not at all unbelievable to me. So until he has another Masshole moment, there’s a chance. personally, I think it’s slim, but “not a candidate” is not putting out any fires. JMO

The only thing I might disagree with here is whether that matters for an asset like a professional sports team versus a publicly traded company. The value of the Boston Celtics isn’t at risk due to the President (potentially) leaving, or subject to market volatility. I’m not sure Stevens having one foot out the door would torpedo a sale of the Celtics the way it could for a privately held or publicly traded company.

He’d be a slam dunk for sure. And after a reading a couple threads their natives seem a little restless which is insane. Maybe he’s ready for a change of scenery (or any scenery after living in Waco), and a return home. May have missed it, and sorry if answered, but what’s the NIL situation at Baylor? He has continued to recruit well, so I am guessing probably better than say an Iowa State situation?

Hiring Drew would be pretty funny after Kentucky wined and dined him and got turned down. Aside from him being a great coach, that would be worth its weight in UK salt.

It would be awesome if Drew was the guy, but it’s also not exactly being Miss Cleo to think a “done deal” would only probably involve like three candidates with Dusty off the board. Stevens, Drew, or Beard, imo. Otherwise, there’s no telling where the search goes if it’s not actually a done deal.

Seems like Dolson could definitely tell those closest not to Wisconsin this deal. Can’t imagine it would take much more than that to stop the drip of information if the risk would be losing the guy. Not just a guy.
