This certainly seems like it’s been a process.

Pretty sure it was a murder, and Drew took over after the murder when the program was in shambles.
-
What were they supposed to look like this year? Those ones last year were ugly as sin. Pun intended.

He comes here and hangs a banner and I’ll be praising the Lord with him.

This thread has jumped the shart.

I like that McCasland is on the list although your AI apparently doesn’t know where he coaches!
-
Because rich people who apparently don’t actually watch the basketball thought Mike Woodson would be better with a six million dollar roster than he was with the NPOY runner up on his team. Hope I am wrong but it’s hard to see why he’d leave Michigan now. Then again maybe he told his new employer he was planning to bail after one season to go to his alma mater and they needed to make it cheap for him to do so lol

Friend, we’ve got 2000 pages of that in another thread. Shade away.

Tony Bennet would be a great hire assuming he has a GM to handle NIL. Wasn’t transfer nonsense and NIL why he walked away?
-
To be fair, if I’m donating 7 or 8 figures to this school and program I’m talking whoever and about whatever the F I want and no one is telling me otherwise lest I turn off the money spigot.

Great post. I was in college when the Kelvin debacle cratered the team. Many of us have basically mostly only known IU as a mediocre program. But we still believe in what it can and should be. It’s hard to imagine that lasts many more classes of students if this continues. Kids matriculating today haven’t had many reasons to cheer for IU basketball as kids.

Zero chance he’s on our “possibles” list this season without it unless he was still at a smaller program. I am pretty convinced as it is he isn’t gonna leave UM after one year. If he wasn’t from here I would put the chances at 0% luring him away. And he most likely wouldn’t be that high on any lists here if he wasn’t an alum. There were lots of people who thought he was too green for the job last year, and weren’t interested until he completely flipped UM. Long winded way of answering and saying: I don’t think he’d be considered/wouldn’t consider it himself if we were interested.

I dunno, I feel for the kid (all of them really) despite the money they’ve been paid. No one enjoys losing or being humiliated. No one came here thinking they would lose, they were lied to. There times this season where it looked like Ballo and Goode were the only guys trying to get people to buy in. Two guys from winning programs. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. I have no reason to believe any of the transfers truly understood or were told how bad a coach Woodson was or how awful the culture seems to be around the program. Sure, they came for checks, they also came because we looked like we were building a good team.

I’ve got a couple FSU grads down here and they want Gates big time. They are worried about coaxing him to the ACC before they get out of the grant of rights and into a different conference. They think he’s all but a lock other than that.

Gates movin’ on up though.

I’d take Pearl in a heartbeat, he could be the stabilizing and return to relevance hire Woody was marketed as. I just think the Bruce ship has sailed. And the weird nepotism son in waiting thing if true would never happen here. I care a lot less about age than I do about getting us back into the conversation. I don’t wanna do a coaching search again in 4-10 years anymore than the next fan, but Pearl would win, win big, and it would be a media knockout. There would be nothing but positives other than no chance of 20+ years. Although the skeleton formerly known as Senior Pitino is doing okay and may coach to 90, so who knows.

And 11 months later the guy we wanted to hire has a team that won 8 games about to win the B1G. It’s couldn’t be more IU if we had script writers lol

Why do people think beard has been to a billion tournaments. I said this the other day, his coaching record is good, not great.it certainly doesn’t warrant the weird hero worship he gets. Beard has coached 5 tourney teams. Covid year he probably would have gotten in, and we’ll never know one because he got fired before the conference season started. If you don’t throw out the 30-5 at his one season at Little Rock and 7-1 before he got fired he’s basically a .680 head coach. .610 in conference. Throw out the one 30-5 year at Little Rock in conference and it’s .530 at the P5 level. For some reason everyone just assumes because of back to back EE with one FF at Texas Tech 7 years ago he’s been killing it his whole career and has a decade or more of experience.

Looking forward to the Mick Cronin announcement. *ducks*

It will be interesting in a couple years when someone finally does a study on the transfer portal and average time at one school. I imagine we are quickly moving towards where dudes doing 4 years at one school is going to be a very low percentage. It’s gotten absurd in football with guys making multiple high major changes. Basketball seems to have money distributed differently where big transfers mostly don’t hop to second big school.

Comparing him calling out fans over that to Woody whining about fans booing when down 30 at home are not remotely similar.
-
That’s why the media and CBB fans, particularly at Purdue, love seeing us down. Whether they want to admit it or not they all know we are one good hire away from being consistently top-10 again. I’m sure we weren’t completely innocent, but we certainly weren’t dropping bags like the others. Our success in the portal since it’s been legal and keeping good players in spite of poor coaching just reinforces that. We are the sleeping giant Nebraska football fancies itself but without being 800 miles from decent recruiting grounds.
-
Maybe Brad is just banking on the futility of IU administration when it comes to managing basketball and knows he can evaluate his life at the time and do this every 3-4 years in perpetuity lol
-
“I’d also like to thank the true fans, who know that basketball is only mediocre in the eye of the beholder.”

I don’t think we are being entirely fair to OK here. They had three final fours, 13 conference championships, a few conference tournament championships among other things prior to Kelvin getting there. They weren’t the little sisters of the poor.
