I thought about this a lot being how close his family is. Being the HC at IU is hard enough on families if the coach is good, much less failing, but at least they get fired and everyone leaves. If Dusty came and failed it would be much different being essentially from IU. I don’t think it’s illogical at all that he wouldn’t want it right now while building his resume. To me, it feels like if Dusty has a strong career for 10 years or so, then he might feel secure enough to come home. I dunno, just my opinion.

I still think our season ending will be the canary in the coal mine. If BS isn’t named within a day or two of our season ending, then it gets really interesting unless you and others get definitive confirmation he’s out before hand.

To me, McCollum is maybe the most intriguing ‘what if’ candidate. Seems like the upside is astronomical, just no idea what his floor looks like being in charge of a D1 behemoth of a program. I’ve watched some Drake since Woody got canned and the deliberate offense isn’t nearly as mind numbing as I thought it would be just looking on paper. Ultimately I’d be pretty surprised if Dolson risked it on a guy with exactly zero Q1 experience but who knows.

Honestly I would welcome it so we could definitively put an end to the Stevens chapter once and for all. Until we get something more direct, or smoke starts to leak that Dolson has been told no by him, there will always be a glimmer of hope regardless of how small. I truly believe what we are seeing is that Dolson has not been told no, or if he has, he has kept it really close to the vest (which would make very little sense not to want leaked imo). Because of this none of our insiders have heard anything to corroborate the Goodman quote and have almost to a person remained in at least the ‘maybe’ category for BS. None of that is to say I think the chances of him actually coaching here are very high, but until something clearly shows he’s out and we’ve moved on it is difficult for me to not at least wonder if it’s happening.

I’m fully expecting someone new to pop in sometime after lunch with a new completely bonkers option. My money has been on someone pushing Shrewsberry for a few days, just waiting for that to come to fruition. Surprised it’s taken so long to be honest. Expecting big things from the Friday news dump.

This is a good take. There are really only two conclusions to be had. Either exactly what you said, or the search went completely off the rails after Dusty was a no and they are keeping that quiet. I tend to believe (hope) you’re correct versus option two.

We’ve gotten basically nothing since Brad woke up on Valentines Day and his first thought was “ya know what would make this Valentines Day really special? A nice chat with my buddy Jeff Goodman about college openings.” Seems totally legit if you ask me.

For me I also don’t think it could reasonably get worse. It’d simply be really bad luck to miss completely and find someone worse than Woody and Archie. We haven’t been awful under Woody, so the program is in decent shape and we have all the institutional resources to be good, so I feel good about it for the most. There are certainly names that would be underwhelming, but anyone committed to actually doing the work necessary to be a college coach will be a breath of fresh air after Woody.

Getting caught up and seeing that Mark Turgeon has done the impossible and united everyone in agreement was really beautiful. Maybe dmv was just trying to remind everyone to find common ground, be better to each other, and remember this coaching search could end up being a total disaster. Or maybe not lol

I’d also point out he’s been HC of basketball at an unprecedented time to be at Clemson, massive upswing in out of state applications and national TV exposure. Clemson was a pretty regional school in upstate SC before Dabo came along. Clemson is decidedly cool now, and has been for a while. All those other cats were recruiting to place where people outside SC and about 20 counties in northern GA would have asked where and what the hell Clempson was. Also LittleJohn Coliseum is pretty cool, and gets nice student and alumni support now (I catch a couple games every year). Not saying he’s underachieved or anything, but Clemson basketball really has potential I don’t think it has realized under BB. Up until last seasons run, his seat was certainly warm, many around here are ready for a fresh face. Also for the record, Dabos whole shtick is not shtick. He’s very nice and country as a turnip green.

I am always amazed by how many people think we are some small school with limited resources, it is baffling. Particularly when it came to football. It had nothing to do with could we spend like we wanted a seat at the big boy table, it was always would we. I have had several people this year shocked, then laughing at our record when they hear how much this roster cost.
