  1. Maybe Scott and Brad are sipping Pina Coladas and watching Breaking Bad reruns for the weekend.
  2. I don't think anyone is arguing that he isn't a good coach, just that his career numbers don't really warrant the weird obsession with him. Even if you include his one season at LR (17-3) and his D2 time he is a career .520 coach in conference games with one final four and two elite eights. He is an excellent non-conference coach. He has done well in his NCAA experience. He is not (as of yet) remotely elite in conference games at the P5 level. One (tie with KU) conference title. He is a good coach. He is not (as of yet) the second coming of RMK and has baggage many folks are uncomfortable with. Dolson will have to weigh those things. I also think winning at TT and OM is hard, but GM seems to have done well at TT so who knows. I think good coaches produce good results, sometimes location is really overstated as a marker of coaching chops (I am skeptical of Collins and Brownell for example-- I think Beard would win more than either of them have at NW or Clemson respectively). Anyways, doubt he gets beyond interviews and vetting since he'd be at UK or UL if he could, but I will trust Dolson even if I disagree with his candidacy for HC at IU. FWIW and without comment: just being charged with something like that would keep you from being hired in my industry. It does not matter if the charges are dropped, they are visible on an FBI 10-year and would preclude someone from getting called back, much less getting to the interviews required for attaining the clearance needed.
  3. When UNC hires Oats I’m going to be very mad online.
  4. So Brad was actually the smokescreen for Otz all along. Dolson you sneaky devil.
  5. Now that’s interesting.
  6. Got a chance to catch up at work and it’s ten pages of arguing whether or not Cronin could sue UCLA so IU could pay less to hire him. This place is amazing lmfao
  7. The really interesting thing to me is we haven’t had an actual college basketball coach in the full NIL and transfer portal era. We’ve had… Woody. We have abandoned high school recruiting. I’ll be excited for anyone we hire to be honest, because we will be getting a college basketball coach to drive the Ferrari that is our program (money wise),and it will be exciting to see how an actual college basketball coach does here.
  8. We are pretty much guaranteed a meltdown if it’s anyone mid major lol. Although I would personally be pretty excited for McCollum.
  9. Look fellas, let’s be realistic here. It’s been quiet because Woody is running it back. We’ve won some games, likely gonna make the tournament and make a win one for the gipper run to the FF. It’s quiet because there is no search happening.
  10. Didn’t think I needed an asterisk saying I don’t think it actually has anything to do with the IU head coaching position but is fun to speculate so* *I don’t think Brad Stevens visiting his kid actually has anything to do with our job, but it’s fun to speculate when there is zero other news of note.
  11. If his kid actually played or even dressed or ND was actually good I’d put zero weight on it. The president of the Boston Celtics watching two shitty college basketball teams on a random Wednesday is not nothing. His kid isn’t even listed in the box score. Brad also knows any appearance in the state is going to raise eyebrows no matter what the reason. Also as far as I can tell he’s not visited SB once all season. Pretty odd timing if you ask me.
  12. so the President of the Celtics skipped a Celtics game to watch a college basketball game his son didn’t even dress for? That’s maybe the most interesting thing we’ve had in a while. More or less, he was visiting his son and they watched a Notre Dame game. They could do that a lot if he walked on to IU lol
  13. That username continues to be an abomination.
  14. I’ve been trying to reverse psychology a banner since Woody got refired. Fire him, he hangs #6 and gets another year or three. Easy trade imo. Pulling a Kevin Ollie if you will.
  15. Do you think that could be due to the lack of autonomy for basketball within the AD? Clearly Woody getting force hired didn’t happen in a vacuum, I’m guessing in coaching circles it wasn’t a secret how the department was being dictated by the donor class and people outside the department with too much influence on the basketball program. I could totally see a coach wanting nothing to do with the post Archie mess that landed us Woodson.
  16. You can make your reasoned argument below the bold without the bold. If you dropped the snark, people would probably agree when you make a good point, which the second paragraph is as to why it could be different this time. Instead, you start by making a completely unnecessary comment when the Post Office was just sharing a specific reason it might not be likely. Edit: Stu beat me to it.
  17. That’s exactly how I’d feel. At this point finishing above .500 in the B1G and making the tournament every season comfortably would feel like night and day to the last decade. Yea Cronin is meh from an excitement perspective, but maybe he takes everything he’s done and learned, combines it with our resources and takes another step as a coach. We could do way worse than Cronin.
  18. That’s not entirely fair to Cronin. The guy has made the tournament like 75% of seasons as a head coach, Crean was like 33%. They’re gonna make it this year and would have Covid season. That’s 14/15. Now an argument can definitely be made being essentially .500 in the tournament with 4 SS and 1 FF is underachieving I guess, but he’s been far more consistent as a head coach than Crean.
  19. It was a generalization. I don’t think Brownell is in Cronins category from a coaching perspective, but I think they’d be in the same tranche if we get past T1. Cronin isn’t in that group. The P5 second tier has a much wider gap individually, because I don’t think there’s a third tier of P5s— the search goes mid major at that point. I’ve argued plenty I think Cronin would be a good hire. I just don’t personally have him in the Stevens/Drew/Otz category.
  20. I’ll bite Tom. I don’t think he’s quite the slam dunk he’s made out to be, and there is at least marginal risk. Not the least of which is that I have a hard time believing he’d be coach for 10+ years. Chances are he’d be as advertised, but I don’t think he’s as sure a thing as Oats or Pearl in terms of FF and title probabilities. It’s one reason I wish there was donor support to take whatever offer BS likely turns down and at least make Oats say no, but it doesn’t sound like there is stomach for 10+ million a year for anyone but the whale.
  21. I think the issue is it doesn’t feel like we’ve moved to oh crap it’s totally gonna be a mid major or low major swing yet. I don’t think (based on nothing but vibes) that we have moved on from the tier 1 P5 guys yet. I’m not convinced we’ve even really gotten to the tier 2 P5 guys yet (Brownell, Cronin types). That said, if we do get to the oh crap it’s totally gonna be a mid major guy, I don’t think 2 years at a low major will get a look (even if he maybe should). Had Creighton taken a step back without him, the assoc HC title might mean more to me personally, but GM doesn’t seem to have missed a beat without him. JMO.
  22. Maybe we start a Creighton pipeline. Ten years of McDermott, followed by his Creighton replacement Huss. Seems like Huss would almost certainly be GMs replacement there.
