IUBB vs Penn State - 2/23/20 @ Noon
MikeRoberts replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It’s good to see his minutes being reduced. I like the kid but it’s pretty evident he and TJD out there together isn’t the best fit. So what I don’t understand is why he keeps getting the start in the first and second half? Minutes aren’t all created equal and he is going against their best players at critical times. I like him better spelling other players and coming in to play against their backup Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

So glad we pulled this out. It’s crazy because if we lose out we could still not make the tourney. Win out and we’re looking at a 5 seed. Still a lot of time to determine our fate Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

I would love for TJD to stay for 4 years because I think by his senior year he could be the best big in the country but it’s in his best interest and not a bad thing for IU to get him to the league at some point soon, otherwise word of mouth is that IU is the place where talented players go to die Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Come on now, that’s half the question/argument. The other half is that TJD and Otturu are similar in size and youth, in fact TJD is younger so maybe more upside/room to develop. Mbakwe is 6’8”, Zeller is 7’0” - there aren’t many 7 footers that can move like Zeller Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Can’t argue that he puts up better numbers. I’m not suggesting TJD should be #7 ahead of Otturu but it was suggested that TJD wasn’t even getting looks to get drafted because doesn’t have an nba game/skill set and was an undersized 5 (paraphrasing). My point is that Otturu is projected as a lottery pick and they aren’t that different in terms of size and skill set yet one is lottery and the other isn’t on any draft boards Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Draft boards agree but why is Otturu projected at #7? He the same height but skinnier than TJD and has no game outside the paint. He is #7 and doesn’t do anything that TJD doesn’t and head to head TJD crushed him Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

TJD kicked the shirt out of Otturu. Does a game like that put TJD on watch from the NBA or is he still not going to get any attention there? He made Otturu look like a scrub Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

I like Brunk a lot but he has has his weaknesses and doesn’t allows deserve the start. Deron is playing better and Race has shown flashes. I think there could be nice rotation there where the best matchup changes each game Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

What a f’ing way to finish!!! I cannot figure this team out. I had them counted out before tip was wildly shocked. Congrats to TJD and Race for breakout performances Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Can you elaborate? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I think they knew he was going to be tough and perhaps knew they were going to get chewed out and cussed at but I don’t think anyone signed up to be pushed into lockers, choked, punched, kicked etc. he was also verbally abusive to staff and administrators. I was a huge knight fan and I like a little edge, hard nosed attitude but he took it too far and got away with it for too long, should have never happened. Maybe I do, maybe I don’t get a pass but I was 0-17 when he was here so I didn’t have a clue he was that way but a lot of people did and ignored it. Point is, we have never had a squeeky clean, choir boy at the helm. Everyone of our coaches since can likely be tied back to some shady dealings. The difference between our last 4 coaches and programs like UK/Duke/Kansas etc is that I think it is engrained in everything they do where we do things sporadically like Josh Smith, Devin Ebanks, Noah Vonleh, Romeo Langford. Were you more than ok to have an abusive and violent head coach? Phone calls and recordings are nothing compared to what Knight was doing. I hate this moral high road that many take here that were huge fans of Knight and our winning ways Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Glad you saw that, our staff must have missed that one Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

But your arguing based on gut/what you think you see vs real numbers. His most productivity comes when he is at the 4 and there aren’t two other bigs clogging the lane. Our most productive lineup is with TJD at the 5 and Smith at the 4, but that lineup minutes are dwarfed by other inexplicable lineups. So, despite what you feel, he is productive offensively despite the crappy lineups and situations he is put in Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
-
He is the second most productive player from a plus/minus standpoint behind TJD, so without going entirely negative on him, what would you say he is good at? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
-
He didn’t play Forrester and Moore at all, even when it was so obvious they should get some run and they left. It was obvious to us to them, they were buried so far down the bench that their only option was to transfer. He could have done this to Smith and hasn’t. In fact smith starts and plays as much as anyone. I actually don’t blame smith for being frustrated. He is our second most productive player in an offense that isn’t good for him. If he wants to post up, he has TJD and Brunk clogging the lane. If he wants to drive, he has TJD and Brunk clogging the lane. If he wants to play on the perimeter he is limited to the shots he is allowed to take. What is he supposed to do in this offense? I would be frustrated as hell too. Possibly, but more likely adidas didn’t want to keep funding what was turning out to be not a superstar. Shoe companies don’t just lock a kid in and he is theirs for life. There are different stages where they need to decide if the juice is still worth the squeeze and in Romeos case, he has spent more time in the G league than NBA so I don’t blame them for not wanting to re-up Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
-
Yeah, not every investment pans out. However, you are just looking at this from an NBA standpoint, he already repped adidas in college and at his announcement, AAU etc Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
-
He already does, romeo Langford was a shoe man from jump. No way IU gets that done without Adidas. Secondly, if Archie can not figure out how to do it on the DL like everyone else than he’s just not good at it. No way Glass or McRobbie should know anything like that. It’s not like he goes to them and asks and they say no Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
