At 6:30 AM Saturday, just looked at the future radar for today's game. Starting at about 11 AM it shows the edge of rain may start to move from just northwest of B'town towards the southeast. But still raining at noon and one. Move the edge another 50 miles just may make the game less wet. Looks like turtle soup to me. This team will give it's all. Coach Cig and the other coaches will take advantage of what is given and what we have. No mistakes today would help. A win will be superb. Make it so.

Try Two: Derps 14 Ground Pounding IU 21 In the wet, it gets about as wet as it can get. Oh, it's raining cats and dogs, and I can't stand croaking frogs... I've got fungus growing on my dungarees...fungus on my dungs and water on my knees... Rolf Harris Rolf Harris - In The Wet (Original 45) (youtube.com)

NWS forecast for noon on Saturday is precipitation...75%. Then at 3 PM, increasing to 87%. During the day rain totals from 1/2 to 3/4". Wind from NE at 11 with gusts to 18. Indiana played 3 contests cleanly. Then against UCLA IU got 14 penalties. In spite of that, IU did a great job on 3rd downs. IU's defense kept UCLA run game in check. UCLA had little success on 3rd down. Maryland lost to Michigan State at home. Then against 'Nova, MD had 8 penalties and won comfortably...which they should against a middle FCS school. MD is reportedly porous against the pass in their secondary. They have a good QB and an adequate RB group. This will be a tough, wet game. It is obviously a conference game against two approximately equal opponents considering talent. Will Coach Cig rely on passes in the rain and wind? Will the run game be productive. Can IU stop MD from doing the same? Make fewer mistakes and take care of business. Coach Cig will make sure that will happen. He is a winner. This is the biggest test of this new team this season. My family and I just got back to the Midwest from Destin FL. We left 3 days early just to avoid risk. Hope that everyone survives Helene.

So I was rethinking my prediction. Thought, maybe I should give Charlotte one point. Near the end of the game...IU scores another touchdown. And gifts Charlotte the point after. But then I would have to lower my IU score prediction. Never mind. Heading to Destin...to watch for the sea level to rise.

Not sure about this year being an all-time favorite. Would be cool for that to happen, though. A miracle, maybe. To date, my all-time favorite is the undefeated '76-'77 NCAA National Champions. Without a doubt. The team that refused to lose. Scott May, Quinn Buckner, Kent Benson, Bobby Wilkerson, and Tom Abernethy...and others. Graduated from IU that year. Married my IU college sweetheart that year. And IU won every single basketball game. Wow!
