Future Memorial Stadium Expansion
Dave from Dayton replied to 68Hoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
"...something more fan facing...' and "...fan experience...' is their goal. Crystal balling it...seems that they are In the preliminary plan phase and do some better preliminary estimating ...figuring out concepts and seeing how much they can get for the capital they have accumulated. Likely then predesign, design, and construction. Will likely roll the preliminary plans out in public meetings. If they need more funding, with the predesign/conceptual drawings, they can set up meeting with potential donors and do the ask. Also said something about upgrade the media areas. Maybe even upgrade stuff outside of the stadium. May even have to expand the trophy cabinets and a walk of fame...if you know what I mean. Maybe they will add beer taps for craft beers and increased capacity and numbers. Also, expand and upgrade bathrooms. And no, they won't add a pen for a bison. They tried that before. IU does not need a mascot. What they need is a new head basketball coach, maybe a new university president, make advanced education more affordable and accessible, and a win tonight. -
The above are excerpts from the writing by someone else and posted above by Stuhoo. I disagree with most of the premise of the post. It is an ok movie. But I liked that this guy had a dream...actually a couple of them. Remember, he wanted to be on the team. He got on the team. He also wanted to graduate from Notre Dame. He graduated from Notre Dame. The writer posits that he got to play in a game because of pity skews what really that was all about. He got to play on one game because his teammates liked him, respected him and appreciated that his dedication also helped them to grow. And contrary to the article, he did not throw his life away pursuing a dream that he was unfit to attain and make his own. He achieved his goals, both of them. Also he gained a bunch of lifetime friends. He also opened many more doors for whatever his future visions might be, he learned a lot about himself, earned the degree and achieved two of his dreams while a young adult. Now, he can dream and pursue other goals using what he has attained and learned as a young adult. Should women be kept unseen, at home, making babies and not going out into the world to pursue other vocations and helping society? Should Helen Keller not have been allowed to pursue her dreams? Should Stephen Hawkings not be a professor of theoretical physics? Should children with learning disabilities be allowed to excel and possibly use that as a strength? Should those of different races and cultures not be allowed to pursue happiness and strive to improve in accordance with their dreams? Should the disabled or those less fortunate with less opportunities to improve their lot not pursue 'above their obvious station in life'? Why is someone else trying to put other people down when they pursue a very difficult quest. Let Don Quixote be Don Quixote. It is exactly who he is. I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more Well, I wake up in the morning, fold my hands and pray for rain I got a head full of ideas that are drivin' me insane It's a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more - Bob Dylan

(2023) - SG Jakai Newton to INDIANA
Dave from Dayton replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Jakai can't catch a break. Hope it isn't as serious as the previous injury/redshirt. We are cheering for you, Jakai. Get well. Get better. We need you. This season, if you are up to it. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

No such thing. There are competent attorneys. A few.... The words...good and attorney are mutually exclusive. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
Dave from Dayton replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
How about a prediction league thread for the exact date that Indiana University formally announces that CMW is to leave and the agreement is formally signed, sealed and done. It is my opinion that it is critical to have his replacement all but lined up. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
Dave from Dayton replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Do not look at the contract for finality. They can negotiate it away. For instance, if Woody agrees, then pay him extra to leave early. There are other options too. If he is found in violation of any part of the contract, then they can claim he broke it. So look at the future as an opportunity. If they say to Woody, that he is gone. Maybe there are options to leaving early that just may help him. -

Never said Woodson is not to blame. Get rid of that argument. There is none. I made the point that both Woodson and IU administration have seriously botched this. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

One may consider calming down and try to appreciate that other people have differing opinions. It makes this site and living a lot more enjoyable. Especially if one listens to understand another point of view, rather than with the intent to just respond and diss. Some of us may appreciate another person explaining why the other person's opinion may not be correct. Rhetoric is cool. But it doesn't necessarily carry the discussion forward. I would like to hear why hiring Woodson had nothing to do with the program being mismanaged (in my opinion) by the Board of Trustees and the Department. -

Good catch. I forgot. I believe that Dolson was helping provide the short list to the Recommendation Committee (ie one of the team for the hired search & vetting consulting firm). If I remember correctly. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Seems to me that the above post is partially correct. And so is Stuhoo's post. It is kind of a chicken and egg thing. Why would Coach Woody fail on court? Why would Coach Woody be hired then fail on court? Both points of view have merit. The Board of Trustees, Quinn Buckner and Dolson all have roles. Seems to me they all failed in selecting Coach Woody relative to the on court coaching stuff. Keep in mind, though, they just may have a different agenda. Not just winning basketball may be the goal. They probably wanted to reconnect with alums and previous basketball players. So to fans, it appears to fail with respect to the W/L and NCAAT criteria. But to others, it may be a bridge to a more strategic vision. I just do not know the puts and takes on the Board of Trustees mandating Woody's hire and whether AD Dolson would really just roll over. Heck, if Glass'* pick of Archie Miller blew his powder...this time, maybe, the tradeoff was it would be Quinn Buckner's turn to pick a HC. (Remember when Herbert allegedly mandated that Kelvin Sampson be hired. And oversite was lacking. Another tradeoff?) There likely is a lot of stuff decided out of our view. I'm still chagrined about the last 5 basketball coach hires and extreme mismanagement of the program. Maybe there is light at the end of the season. Dolson knows how to bring in $$$$s. Alums got stroked by connecting with history of the program. Dolson has proven adept at hiring the HC in football. May that process bring a winner within the next 5 months. While the football program, this season, has caught lightening in a bottle...may that continue. Now for my old guy perspective: RMK was our lightening in a bottle. Personally, I lost a lot of love and interest in football...primarily because of Indiana's football program from the mid-70's on...except for a couple of seasons. I still like basketball more...and miss the old days of man-to-man, and X's and O's, defense, getting to the line, players with roles, and great competition in the Big Ten. Remember when Bob Knight benched his 5 starters? *Corrected...thanks KYsux...see post below. -
Marquette (6) just lost by 8 to Dayton 9 - 2.

Try spelunking. Can't pick up the basketball games on radio down there. Long time ago, went in Blue Springs Cave with some experienced cavers. It's a two-level cave. Had deflated inner tube slung over my shoulder. Walked on the upper level...which is dry. Got to a tube and crawled...pushing my helmet ahead. Got stuck because the tube got hung up. Pushed backward. Pushed everything ahead of me the 2nd time. Got to the underground river. Inflated the tubes. Floated to Coglazers (?) sink. Climbed out. Now it is the entrance to the cave/boat tour. Did some vertical caving too. Not fun for me.

Every conference game matters. Winnable conference games matter. Every conference game tells us where we are as a team. Win a road game in this conference...and that is a big deal. Lose it, and then start think of the NIT. I don't know about make-or-break games with this team. Win this game, and we are making progress. Lose this game and something is definitely broken. Lose it and they will break Woody's contract at the end of the season...as if there is any chance of him staying...unless he pulls a rabbit out of his hat...like a sweet 16 win. Seems improbable...but not impossible.

Hey... Consider this pushback. Dayton sells those out. Get your own tournament. We own the first four. Got it here, you can't have it. It's a big deal. /s
