Given the state of the program, that is just sad. I know you like Woodson, but there is zero excuse for horrible recruiting this year. X’s injury and the team’s youth has nothing to do with it.

They are spouting some BS that future coaches will be scared off because IU will run them off if they aren’t successful by year three. Of course the miss the part where the fired coach walks away with millions.

It should absolutely, 1000%, concern Dolson. More that the W/L record. If guy's leave due to Woodson, you're not getting much from the portal. May have to have open tryouts at the Hyper.

None of the years where flukes. This year was to be expected -- everyone has a down year. The bigger problem is program trajectory. We got nothing. If we didn't have to wait for the portal to see what the team may look like, we could be more optimistic. But with as many players that will be needed, it's going to be a complete cluster fk.

Look, all you can go by is the article. It says expressed no interest. Could mean IU reached out and they said "not interested." Could mean a reporter did. Could mean anyone did. Typical half a$$ media reporting today.

Are we sure that was discretionary and not part of the contract? I don’t think we ever got that answer.

So been thinking about this. College sports have changed to now mirror pro sports. So who in these new times should be responsible for the strategic direction of the program? The AD or head coach? Should it mirror the pros with say a GM. Then a personnel department responsible for player evaluations (both high school and portal). Plus a player development department with the strength and conditioning guy, shot doctor, etc. responsible for developing the players. Then leave the head coach to do game day stuff — offense/defense, game plans, etc. plus recruiting a roster he wants? Seems the whole job may be too big for many coaches. Kinda seems Dolson was working towards that with Matta, but that spot wasn’t filled was it?

While true it is up to the kids to control their behavior. They have to care. I have zero problem with the guys hitting the bars Saturday night after a win. Back in the Archie days the kid would hang with them at Roys and such. But they where also out the nights before the games — ever “wonder” why they played like crap on those Early Sunday games. They need better self control.

I have heard rumors that some guys, how shall we say, are more concerned with their social lives.

Problem is Woodson had the opportunity to do great things. He started strong retaining TJD and getting JHS and Malik. But then his ego took over. And it’s been down hill ever since. He’s squandered a great opportunity.

Not sure what parties where involved with Crean, but I think the administration was still concerned with a Bob Knight bigger than the program type hire. So there certainly was an administration issue for a time. I think that has ended, especially with the move on Stevens. I think Dolson got handcuffed with Woodson and that experiment has failed. I expect the next hire to be “the guy.”

In the sense that they haven’t been able to find a winner for men’s basketball. But the guys they have picked looked good “on paper.” They may have not been a big dog, but nobody thought they would crap their pants. But remember, the vast majority of coaches fail miserably — so IU is in good company. Hopefully they get the next one right. Evaluation is the right word. Thanks JS.

Not really. It’s a numbers game. There are way more bad coaches than good coaches. IU’s problem is they keep finding them.

Sounds to me like Buckner got to him and told him to change his tune.

It means you could have the best job in the world — fired IU coach with a big a$$ buyout.

Sounds like he took some heat from Buckner for his comments the past few games.
