Something is going on here. First Dolson hasn’t confirmed the report of Woodson’s return. Neither was he cited as the source. That story was dropped as a misdirection play. With the liam decommit there is now “cause” to relieve Woodson. There is no way he survives this. No fkg way.

No. With the portal and transfer rules today, it's way too big of a job for a coaching staff. We are talking 1000s of players. And they have to be ready at a moment's notice as kids hit the portal to make a go/no-go decision. It's a separate function from the coaching staff, in my world. All pro organizations have them -- think of scouting departments and those dudes sitting at the table in Moneyball.

Let me introduce to you fatboy JB Pritzker. But I digress. :)

So actually if you go back to some of my previous posts, it's not that bad of an idea. But my thinking is more along the lines of a player personnel department running thru the AD. Guys who's sole job is to review prospects -- both high school and portal. Help the coaching staff with target lists, etc. So Coach can say get me a "shot blocking center" and they can give him a list of names, reports, and film on guys to check out. Coach still picks his players.

I'll need to update my roster prediction on the other thread -- two dudes from FIJI.

Do any of these guys fit the "future NBA guy" Mike Woodson profile? I don't see him even considering them.

The Mike Woodson going to the portal for success is going to crash and burn. Book it. Looks like we'll need 4-5 studs to come in. Yet if you look at last year's numbers: Of the top 25 players -- Bama, Gonzaga, TCU and TX each got 2. If you drop to down to top 50 -- Nova, Kansas, and WVU each got 3. Now who's going to convince me, the Mike Woodson is going to be able to pull 3-4+ of the top players from the portal against some of the better programs in the nation. Give me a break. It's a pipe dream.

No, because he was afraid of competing with Gallo and X. :) But by all accounts they did throw money at him and he didn't even consider it.

Thing is we don't even know who those players will be. At least in the NBA you know who's contracts are up and who you can target in free agency. This is just a crapshoot.

Maybe. But one thing Pearl said in one of his interviews was getting a couple portal players that they lost out on in HS. Not burning bridges and keeping the lines of communications open type of stuff. It's a whole new ball game.

Three year. Probably three players. Bold strategy cotton.

By the time you get new "staff" (coaches, GM, whatever), the best guys in the portal will be long gone. You need to have people doing the portal work now -- evaluations of guys you project to be heading into it so you can move quick and back channel contacts if necessary.
