Coach DD doesn’t need “ championship” level players to win, and to win a lot. Nobody is suggesting we’ll be competing for championships next year. First order of business is to get the right dudes together, and win enough games to be upper side of Big10 and a solid team to make the dance (no more of this bubble chit). Then work from there.

We had bag chasers last year and ended up with a “team” most couldn’t wait to get rid of.

One thing Coach DD needs is someone who has been there with him. Knows his system, his expectations, and can help others get over that hump, so to speak.

He already had his database of possibilities that he was preparing for next year. It's just a matter of closing the deals while doing all that is required to clean up the mess he was given.

You would think they would do that during the tournament. It is mind boggling how stupid the NCAA is.

Gentlemen (and Debbie Downers), we already have a solid 2 players in Tucker and Sisley. A lot of pieces out there to complete the puzzle. We'll be in the tournament. Look at it this way -- all we have to do is figure out a way to beat Nebraska and Northwestern and we're in. :)

Yeah. Think we are going to get a more lunch bucket kind of TEAM vs a bunch of individual *****. The pieces need to fit, no red flags, etc. I just hope he can land some multi-year guys he can build future teams off of.

Yeah. Bunch of Debbie Downers. Best hire we have had since Sampson. College basketball lifer who is a normal guy by all accounts. Track record of success. Wants to be here. With Izzo likely retiring soon, Big10 is going to be dominated by IU/Devries, Michigan/May and Purdue/Painter. McCullom/Iowa will still be Iowa. The rest will be the rest.

Kid could have got paid big time back in the day, instead of working for a living like the rest of us. :)

It’s not really about players vs coaches because like you said they are different (coaches just can’t leave as they are restricted by buyouts). It’s more like athletes vs regular students — regular students can do whatever they want. A lot of this is solved is you put contracts in place. Come up with a standard players contract. Let the terms of the contract handle it. They can leave after their contract is up or under certain circumstances as outlined in the contract (like hardship, coaches leaves, etc.).

Tucker was basically left for dead on the bench. We pretty much had him first in the portal 60 seconds before the final buzzer of the final game. Then someone tweeted he's was in the portal and his dad said "slow down" champ. And here we are with him not in the portal at this point. I am thinking CDD gave him something to think long and hard about.

Yeah, I had Parcells first, but switched to JJ cause he was who I remember making the change from college to pro during that era.

If you go back in history there was a time when the biggest coaches were also GM. I think it was Jimmy Johnson who started that saying “if you want me to cook the meal, I want to but the ingredients.” That is basically the college model — coach rules everything. But it’s too big of a job for one person. So bringing in help to handle the money and player personnel makes sense. What you call them is irrelevant.

Dude could probably go to the Hypr and find guys he could coach up to make the dance. I am fairly confident we'll be there next year. :)
