They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
TheWatShot replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm beginning to think Woodson has some kind of psychological problem. I know his generation was taught that you never quit on a job, but that's a new low, even for him. -

One of my message board guilty pleasures is when someone makes a mistake and literally half the board posts to correct them. -

Back when Bruce Weber was coaching at Illinois I think they got ahead of us for a bit. We just need Purdue to suck for about 6 years and we'll get it back. -

I saw a comment somewhere else that in spite of the loss, Indiana took steps forward today. Seriously can't believe how dumb the Internet has made some people. -

Did we ever find out who it was? I always figured it was somebody that worked for Crean because he went silent for a long time after Crean was fired. -

We can't let this guy walk into Mackey Arena Friday night...but we will. -

McCollum would be about 4th or 5th on my list, but you have to remember he's coaching D-2 transfers. If shortening the game works best for them, that's what they need to do. He may not play such a slow pace if he has better talent. I'm reminded of how Wisconsin was the slowest team in the Kenpom era under Bo Ryan, then when he had Final Four talent he turned them loose. -
Minnesota upsets Oregon and all the students climb up onto the court to celebrate.

Minnesota on a bender, up 27-11 over Oregon midway through the first half.

That only gets us to 7, not 8. The only games I can confidently say I think we'll win are Rutgers and Purdue at home. We should win at Purdue because they're terrible, but our offense just isn't reliable and I could see us messing around for stretches of that game and letting them think they can beat us.

If we're not leading in scoring droughts of more than 4 minutes, we're probably leading in offensive fouls. As I said earlier, offense is just hard for this group. Not sure if Moren needs to make changes to her offense in the offseason or just get different players, or maybe both. Just no reason to be struggling to break 50 points in so many games.

Water might be finding its mark for a Michigan team that has overachieved up until now. We'll see if May can get them going again in February or if he takes the Miller/Woodson route and loses about five or six in a row.

It pays to have a coach. God I envy them.

I remember beating my head against the wall trying to explain to non-IU fans what an awful experience Archie Miller basketball was. They just didn't get it, but they weren't watching us closely. They didn't see us struggling to score 60 points in most games, a coach who subbed himself out of leads and then made his assistants take questions from the media or a guy taking the ball out of bounds and having no one to inbound it to because the other four guys had all run to the other end. From a bird's eye view, it's probably harder for the average fan to see what's wrong here. But all of us know because we're experiencing it every day. -

I think midseason firings may start to happen more often now with the portal being a big factor. Teams that are out of contention and won't be in the tournament want to get a jump start on recruiting portal players. But we probably won't start seeing that for another month at least. OSU fired Holtmann in mid-February. Don't be surprised if we see a few coaches let go in late February/early March. If we're sub-.500 in the Big Ten by then, maybe we make the move. -

Jerry just posted earlier that they're waiting for the right moment to pull the trigger. He's also said that from an outsider's view, firing him with our current record would throw up red flags. We all know why Woodson needs to be gone but I don't think he's wrong. -

Dakich played that same clip years ago and compared it to Archie Miller after a loss at Maryland, where Miller did nothing but praise Maryland's players. Amazing how 7 years later nothing has changed. -

The BOT and our fanbase have been on completely different wavelengths for a long time and it probably won't ever change. So infuriating. -

Not sure it mattered. Unless we got a yes from Stevens, it sounded like Buckner was adamant that Woodson get a 4th year just like Archie did.
