They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
TheWatShot replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Crean let him play in a game where he couldn't even remember to put his jersey on, so it would make sense why he'd blame the fans for getting Crean fired. -

Doesn't Pearl want his son to take over for him when he retires? It doesn't appear he has any head coaching experience. If Pearl ever came here, this is probably what would happen: he coaches two years, has to retire due to some health problem, and we have to hire his son, who's in over his head from the start, and...well, you know the rest. -
This sh*t's been going on for the whole Woodson era. When we lost at home to Illinois his first year, they left a message on the whiteboard in the visitors' locker room that said something like "Nighty night, Trayce!" Rutgers has had dudes playing mind games and calling us out for being soft, the guy from PSU said he wasn't impressed by Ballo, and now this. Our players aren't serious and their opponents know it.

But, I was told his teams didn't play defense and he was just another Archie Miller...and that it would take multiple years for him to win here... -

Too many cooks in the kitchen. The Cig hire was mostly Dolson with input from Whitten, which is how it should be. We didn't have boosters/BOT members/donors trying to meddle with that hire because none of them cared about football. -

I'm not sure you could have picked a worse day to come in here and flex. -

The worst part is we all saw it coming, though I think most of us expected it to be Louisville instead. But this is IU, so of course he landed in the Big Ten. -

Remember when we won a few games and people thought we were screwed? Good times. -
The worst part about games like these is how broadcasters will say it's an example of how deep the Big Ten is and how every team will get kicked in the mouth multiple times. I'm sure "it's hard to win on the road in the Big Ten" will make the usual rounds and our players won't feel any regrets whatsoever for this turd of a game.

Seat getting warmer for Katie Gearlds? Purdue 0-5 in the Big Ten after an 87-60 home loss to Michigan today. They've lost 6 games by 20+ points. -
Unclutch award of the week goes to South Carolina's Nick Pringle, who missed two free throws with 9 seconds left and his team down by one.

USC up 10 at Illinois and has the ball with 2 minutes left. The other USC is leading Auburn 40-34 at the half.

Wow, USC up 8 with just over 3 minutes left.

Trent Sisley signed back in November. But maybe we shouldn't give Woodson any credit there, because he was probably coming to IU no matter what. -

I keep thinking back to when he was hired and was asked about his approach to recruiting, he said "You want to play basketball for Mike Woodson, you come and talk to Mike Woodson." He really thought players would come to him. I don't think that happened like he thought it would, and it's definitely not happening now that recruits have seen his archaic schemes and lack of energy. You have to eat, sleep and breathe this stuff to succeed at this level. I've never gotten the impression he was that committed to doing it. I think he likes the job title, being on the sidelines during games and getting to walk around and be acknowledged as Mike Woodson, Indiana University basketball coach, but he dislikes a lot of the other stuff. Not a whole lot different from Archie Miller in that regard.
