I think that’s the $74,000 question

Tons of press today from multiple outlets about Miller’s impending termination...the writing is quite literally on the wall.

Game Thread: Indiana vs Michigan State (8PM EST BTN)

Kinda sums up Archie’s tenure -
I never had a choice in who I liked. My clothes, bibs, bottles, everything was IU. My first word was “Uwe.” Growing up in southern Indiana, I never minded Purdue much, as there were bigger fish to fry in that disgusting state underneath us. But, I don’t think I could actively root for Purdue in anything. Butler is okay I guess. Indiana State? Notre Dame was the hot thing for a second when “Rudy” came out. Out of state, I suppose I like any underdog or B1G team with a couple of exceptions. I remember when we were supposed to root for Texas Tech...more than one older IU fan jumped ship and didn’t even care (or pretended not to care) about the 2002 Final Four because it was more about Knight than the school or team (I find that pattern to be consistent with...other things as well). I don’t have any idea if I will root for IU next year or not if Archie stays. Most likely I will, because it’s so embedded into my DNA and I root for the school I attended, but I won’t enjoy it. I rarely even watch games anymore, I just refresh Google, which is about as fun as seeing the game.

You know what’s way more fun than watching IU now? Watching old games on YouTube. A lot of times I forgot the score and who won, so it’s like betting on an old horse race. I’ll sit here in my 80’s IU t-shirt and root for a 30 year-old team no problem. Seriously though, it’s fun to watch a team wearing our uniforms play amazing basketball.

The fact that Archie Miller and Dan Dakich is now what people outside the state think when they hear “IU” makes me ill.

I listened to his show from a couple days ago last night...he’s the most self-centered person on earth and I hate his guts.... ...but almost everything he said about the program was exactly right (aside from perpetually claiming that Knight actually wasn’t as good a coach as people say he is). There really was a palpable difference in the program that’s just not there today; call it a presence, an aura, whatever, but it surrounded the program and you could feel it. IU was different. I don’t think a new coach is going to change any of that, since it was lightning in a bottle, but winning sure would help. -
I so desperately wanted Archie to be the guy. A young Knight with a chip and a head for the game. His all-business demeanor seemed kind of like a good IU-personality fit at first, which we needed after having a human meme for a coach. If he was grumpy and a great coach, I’d be happy. Instead we get a style of play I equate with a trip to the DMV and nothing to show for the last 4 years except wasted Mr. Basketballs and missed tournaments.

I was actually thinking the other day about how Newkirk was better than Phinisee
-
He’s gone. Realistically, there’s just no way he will ever live down the tournament played in AH for the first time in 40 years and not be in it.

Ol Justin Smith and Arkansas beating up Bama.

They’ve given up. That’s the season, officially. Maybe something good will come out of all this.

Script logo is amazing and I’ve been wanting to see it for years. If they did script with the older rounded IU on the shorts I’d be a happy man. At the very minimum I wish they’d PLEASE just go back to the original piping on the neck and arms—these unis they have now suck. Also, anything black would basically make us look like UofL. -

If there was a consistent 3 shooter we’d be a B1G title contender -

Not to be a sunshine pumper after a win against a middling B1G team, but... I think this team is far better than the record suggests. Lots of close losses that could’ve gone the other way if the ball fell in a slightly different direction. For all intents and purposes, we “should” be looking at least at a 16-5 record right now and in the top 5 of the conference. Only 2 blowout losses, which is nice, and they haven’t lost (or won) more than two games in a row this year, which is a weird stat. Lots of work to do—they need to take care of M$U, get comfortably in the tournament, and win at least the first round for me to be more positive about Archie. Still think they could surprise me. -
pUKe stole that one...man do they suck.

Matta is still my number one pick, but with whatever health issues he has, I doubt an extremely high-stress position like IU would be something he’d consider, money or no. But who knows, he could be healed up and ready to go...people have been talking about his “return” for years, but if I were him I’d stay chilling and counting my O$U money. -
