I love the matchup! This will be a great test for our defense and a measuring stick to how good we are against a top 20 team that isn't in the B1G. It's one thing playing top ranked B1G rivals close, but it means nothing if we cannot take that high level of play and apply it against a non-familiar opponent. Do we play over our heads against OSU and Michigan? Or are we really that good a team and be able to beat Utah? I love the challenge! Coach Allen will have our boys ready!

Cincinnati job opened up today with Tuberville resigning. That would be funny if UC stole Brohm from Purdue. UC is probably a better job anyways. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Very good question. My first thought was concerned too. CKW was excellent on following leads and finding under the radar 3* recruits in Georgia and Florida, that were passed up by SEC schools. Definitely have to give him his credit, the offensive line, running backs and wide receivers were always very well stocked. At the same time, Wilson relied a lot on his assistants. Frey, McCullough and Inge are excellent recruiters. Also, after reading the latest ESPN article, hard to believe Wilson was able to make good impressions with recruits and their families. He seems like a grumpy guy. Maybe that is why Wilson was never able to land/hold onto a top QB recruit? (Sudfeld was a Seth Littrell recruit) Coach Allen will help us a lot in state, and within that 3-4 hour driving distance to border states. Allen will definitely make a more favorable impression on families. We've already seen how recruits are absolutely fired up to play for him. I have no doubt Allen will make Florida a priority. He has enormous experience in the state. Recruiting on defense will only get better. I expect the defensive staff to stay in place. On offense Wilson was definitely a big part of recruiting offensive linemen. However, if we can keep Frey I will not be as worried. McCullough is an excellent recruiter of running backs. Offensive recruiting and development is definitely where I am most concerned. Wilson was an extremely smart offensive mind. It will be interesting to see what we do at OC. Is Johns staying or is someone new coming in? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Taggart would be a fantastic hire for Oregon. Big jump for him but he's a high ceiling talent. Spent three years on the West Coast at Stanford under Harbaugh. Strong recruiter in Florida. Classy shoutout by Taggart: Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I could see Miles doing excellent at UH. He has lots of recruiting connections in Texas from his time recruiting the state at both LSU and Oklahoma State. Houston is a hotbed for high school football. Miles could see UH as an easier path to a New Year's 6 Bowl. If Kiffin misses out, does he join his friend Orgeron at LSU? As far as Oregon. Not much news out of their camp. They are either being extremely quiet or are waiting for conference championships to end so they can go after McElwain, Harsin or Fleck? (2017) DT Juan Harris to IU
akhosrof replied to HoosierReb01's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Thanks for all the updates cc. With Harris, Mullins and Minor we have some serious size coming in to help the interior defensive line. You have to think Coach Hagen is staying on board if each of these three kids reaffirmed their commitment today. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Tom Allen Hired as IU Head Football Coach
akhosrof replied to akhosrof's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Good post. Your last paragraph is what it all comes down to. Yes, Les Miles is the pipe dream, but once you realize Les isn't coming here you're down to a list of PJ Fleck, Brian Brohm, and maybe Willie Taggart (who I think would hold out for a better job and would prefer to stay in the South). We've tried an LSU retread and it didn't work[emoji1] Hiring a G5 head coach likely represents a complete restart. We have the youth and talent to win now! I don't necessarily believe Glass when he says Wilson's resignation and Allen's hiring were two separate decisions. However, I do believe that it worked in Glass's favor that Allen was naturally the best man for the job in the country and was the easy choice. Of course, the question will be was Glass scared of losing Allen and pushed Wilson out the door? Based on the options above, as well as everything that has been stated in this topic, Allen is by far the best guy for the job. It's a perfect fit and a seamless transition. Young guys like Brohm, Fleck or Taggart would use IU as a stepping stone. Allen has the potential to be our Tiller. Now if Allen can keep Hagen, Inge, McCullough and Frey, this will be a home run. Tom Allen Hired as IU Head Football Coach
akhosrof replied to akhosrof's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
No idea. Just throwing out a name of a coach with connections to Allen. Maybe Werner would want to call plays and be the only OC? I do like the smaller program approach as well. I'm excited to see how Johns does calling plays in the bowl game. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Tom Allen Hired as IU Head Football Coach

Logically thinking... Ole Miss has co-offensive coordinators and Hugh Freeze calls the plays. Dan Werner (QB coach and co-OC) is a name to keep an eye on. Lots of experience and was on the same staff as Coach Allen for a few years in Oxford. With that said, this bowl game will be an awesome opportunity for Kevin Johns calling the plays. Watch us hang 50 points and Johns shows he should have been calling the plays all along[emoji16] Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Tom Allen Hired as IU Head Football Coach
akhosrof replied to akhosrof's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
How about the fact that he nearly cried when talking about the position? What an incredible and motivational journey. Coach Allen understands the responsibility of being the head coach of IUFB and everything that comes with that. Mentoring young men, helping high school football in the state develop. Only a matter of time until we start locking down these in-state kids. A Hoosier through and through. I think the big question that remains: what happens with the offense? Is Johns kept on as OC to call plays? Do we get a veteran OC to have complete control over the offense so Coach Allen can handle the defense? (Any ideas for OC?) Coach Allen was tight lipped what will happen with the staff after the bowl game. Just said everyone is staying on until then. I hope we can keep Hagen, Frey and McCullough. I loved how Coach Allen said he will leverage his background as a special teams coach to ensure we improve there. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
The goodman deserves his own topic. His big day shouldn't be overshadowed by Glass and Wilson's quarrel. How about that introduction speech? WOW if there was ever the right man to lead IUFB, it's Allen. The situation with Glass and Wilson was weird, but I think we'll look back at this day as a jumping point for IUFB. The day we got our coach who was at the school for 15-20 years. He has that sort of potential. On Twitter it seems Ole Miss fans are happy for him, but they are disappointed he isn't coming back to be their DC. I know I was worried we'd lose Coach Allen this offseason to a big program. I'd rather have a year of growing pains as head coach and have him long-term than keep Wilson and lose Allen. Congratulations Coach Allen! Now let's go win a bowl game! NO Wilson/Glass talk in this topic. Allen and the future of IUFB only! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Not a buy-out. It's equivalent to one year of salary paid out if he was active payroll. Amount does not get offset if he gets a job elsewhere. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Coach Allen says all Indiana HS coaches are welcome at practice to grow and learn. Said he will make recruiting in state a top priority. Also said he will be a major figure in the state. He's a wonderful speaker. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Wow I almost feel bad for Coach Allen. This is one of the biggest days of his life, his entire family is here, and his press conference is being overshadowed by a falling out between Wilson and Glass. Should this have been a separate press conference? Either way I'm extremely happy for Allen. You can tell he won't take this opportunity for granted. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

What a turn of events. Extremely happy for Coach Allen! He's a Hoosier through and through and will represent this program tremendously. Let's go get him a top notch OC! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

He left us to become the OC for North Carolina. It was after that he became the HC of North Texas. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Yep agreed. That is why Littrell left for another OC job: Wilson called the plays and Littrell needed play calling experience, so it really was a promotion for him despite the same title. If Allen is the head coach I think there will be major turnover on the offensive coaching staff as a veteran offensive coordinator will get his own guys. Would be a shame because Frey and McCullough are spectacular coaches. We'll have to see... Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

If Allen was the head coach there would be no doubt Allen would continue to call the defense. He would have to hire an OC who essentially would be head coach of the offense with little input from Allen. Really no different than what we had. CKW called the offense, Johns wasn't a typical OC. Allen ran the defense with little input from Wilson. It would be the same thing with Allen and Hagen. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
