Yes, a paradox of the profession is you can’t make it w/o some self-belief but if you buy into your own genius you’ll get passed.

(2022) - PF Kyle Filipowski to Duke
lillurk replied to ap2345's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Hey if he visits, there’s a shot. Pray Duke stays away. -
Maybe Cal wants to have a version of Saban's analysts in non-recruiting roles. The Miller bros could do it

Because football staffs are larger there’s a place for a coach like Crean who has mixed results as a head man. He’d be a great offensive coordinator somewhere, maybe (re-)learn some things about program management, trusting his staff, delegating, media relations, and player relations, then get another shot. Kinda think Archie should do a version of this. Go coordinate the defense as an assistant somewhere for two years, watch the head man develop players offensively and show some humility to consider other systems on both sides of the ball, and get another head gig somewhere PAC-12, AAC, a-10, WCC

Poll: Way Way Early 2021/2022 Depth Chart Prediction
lillurk replied to Southside's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Same here. Think we’ll see plenty of lineups with four wing/guard types, e.g. X/Stew/Bates/Kopp/TJD. I’m just not sure how many teams really punish you that way. I’m more concerned how a lineup like that guards EJ Liddell at the 4 than how it guards an Aaron Henry type who is less likely to try to post you. -

Yeah this is impressive -
(2022) PF Jalen Washington to UNC
lillurk replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Really grateful for all your shares, OF. Who can Washington guard? -
Where were the low- and mid-major D1 schools when this guy graduated HS? I wonder how Akron, Cleveland State, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, etc. didn’t see something here. He scored >9 points as a frosh, not like he was a total project. I don’t mean that skeptically, just genuinely curious.
-
Glanced at his game log yesterday and iirc he’s only scored in double figures once in college, which is remarkable for someone who has played as many minutes as he has

(2022) PG Braden Smith to Purdue
lillurk replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I like Hunter and he’s been better than many guards IU took instead. Have a hunch the prior IU staff would’ve ruined him just like every other perimeter player though. -
(2022) PG Braden Smith to Purdue

Yes, this is no knock on Smith, but if he very badly wants to play at IU but then jumps at a PU offer within a week, before playing his last summer of AAU, how badly does he really want to go to IU? And then of course there’s the discussion of the roster. I think you’ll have at least Lander for 22-23, and as stated above Phin and X will still have eligibility. Would Smith be ready for prime time as a sophomore, and a big role as a frosh? Is he the only point guard in the whole class? The best one who you could legitimately add? -
Personally very enthusiastic about Geronimo. He’s going to bottle up some burger boy in the B1G/ACC challenge and bang two threes then seal the game on a runout steal and dunk. But I love him as the conference 6th man of the year. My projected starters, at least to start the year, would be X, Stew, Kopp, Race, and TJD, and you can bring in Jordan for any of them save maybe X.

Early Big Ten Projections (2021-2022)
lillurk replied to IUc2016's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This surprises me a little! I assumed he and Wieskamp would be gone and Iowa would have a pretty bare cupboard. But Bohannnon, Touissaint, Murray, some transfer big, and various McCafferys will score a bunch. Maybe an NIT team even without Wieskamp -
Who will be most improved player & Why.

I’ll also pick Lander. Everything went wrong last year except an injury but there’s no reason to believe the same will be true next year under much different circumstances. -
(2022) - SG C. J. Gunn to DePaul
lillurk replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If you bust tail, defend and hit 3s on the wing you’ll play SOME role the moment you get to campus and there’s a chance you’ll get paid to play for a loooong time. -
Not sure if anyone has a Hooplens login but they have on/off court splits and allow you to do more than one player. So you could do “Brunk w/o TJD” vs. “Brunk w/TJD” and “TJD w/o Brunk” for some idea. I don’t have hooplens access lest I’d do it. For what it’s worth mgoblog posted his on/off splits from Butler when he transferred to IU and the defense was terrifyingly bad w/him on the court at BU

lillurk replied to HoosierBoiler's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think he could get 20/game as a third guard on a good team, and I think he was best next to ball-dominant 2s: Romeo and Devonte. I’m not sure he’ll get much more or less than that but IU has lots of guard depth even if ~half or more of the minutes at the 3 go to Stewart or Bates. I think he’ll have a good year but more of a “what he was capable of all along” type of thing than improvement. -
(2022) DB Dasan McCullough to INDIANA
lillurk replied to lucel15's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Nothing to add but excitement so I’m posting to elongate the thread -
I mean I know what y’all are saying, this is rhetorical, please don’t explain it to me like I literally don’t know
-
If a player has an honest conversation with coach and then decided to transfer to Norte Dame or Cincinnati so he can immediately play 20 minutes/game instead of waiting two years to maybe do that, why shouldn’t we be happy for him?
-
Great example, and a guy who I don’t even recall draftniks discussing as a potential shooter
-
I think jumping two steps ahead of reality then being mad about which hypothetical you chose (and reverse engineering everyone’s motivations) to be mad about it is unhealthy
-
Guys expand their jumper, not saying this is destiny for either player. Just look at Brook Lopez’s career, or Kenny Goins at MSU.
-
Brooks is a good fit, to be sure. I will say, though... Race Thompson, IU career: 6/28 on 3s Keion Brooks Jr., this season: 6/28 on 3s. Brooks was slightly better as a frosh, 5/19.
-
Really only a couple potential departures possible if we assume those who already went portal and came back aren’t going. I could imagine some players who got passed by Bates immediately would also be candidates.
