After being blessed with over half a season with Coach Cig, it’s not going to take long for me to get sick and tired of hearing the Woody excuses. Dude just isn’t it. Period. Desperately hope this is his final season. -

Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA... Forever and Ever, Amen!

I think it’s going to go beyond money. He mentioned his wife loves it here. He mentioned that he really enjoys working with Dolson and Whitten. The investment into football seems to be there. Unless he came here with the intention on using it as a stepping stool, I’m confident we have what it takes to keep him here. I sure hope so anyway. I sprung for 4 season tickets next season and I’m shopping for a tailgating RV. -

He needs golden handcuffs. Expand the Rock. Make him a stakeholder. Something. This dude may win a ******* natty in his first year here. It’s not THAT far fetched. -

This is how I see things. Makes the most sense. Puts the program in good graces with prospective coaches (although I think Dolson has an idea who it will be)…. Sends a beloved former player the chance to ride off into the sunset and avoids an ugly divorce. No matter how you try to rationalize it….. firing Woodson would have AWFUL optics. And that matters. Woodson’s ego remains intact due to the fact that the program is in a much better place now than when he took the job. *any reasonable fan has to admit this. Feels like we have a legitimate opportunity to enter into a golden age of IU athletics. Hope we take advantage of that opportunity. -

I’m with ya on that. My mental and emotional state is so much healthier when I’m convinced Brad Stevens is a ship that has sailed. -
Braylon Mullins (2025) SG - to UConn

Feels good to come here and comfortably say that I couldn’t care less about the loss of a homegrown 5* recruit. We are a football school now. Coach Cig is the main attraction and alpha dog on campus. Just like Payton Manning, he’ll have us all forgetting about our failures on the hardwood and renew our pride in something else. In doing so, it will drastically increase top line revenue for the athletic dept and the basketball program will indirectly benefit from its trickle down effect. Im not close to anyone in the know but I’d imagine Coach Cig is opening some eyes, in regards to the contrast between a true winner and a poser. Both guys talk the talk. Only one walks it. If the rumor that Buckner had all of the control were true, then this football hire gives Dolson a lot more leverage and political capital to make the next move. I’m not a gambling man but I generally have good instincts. My instincts are telling me that this season is Woody’s last. For now, let’s enjoy the rare opportunity we have in front of us…..to ignore a fall recruiting loss and enjoy our football team coming down the homestretch. They are legitimate contenders NATIONALLY. -

With all due respect and love to Hep, his hire was not near the level of hire as Coach Cig. I agree he would have had success here but I’m not sure he ever touches the upside that we are seeing in YEAR 1, with Coach Cig. Hep’s Career at IU: season 1: 4-7 season 2: 5-7 -

I agree with you here. On all points. I believe Dolson has a plan. The football hire was the best hire since Knight and I guarantee you that it’s opened some previously closed eyes. The often cited notion that it would take [Insert Coach’s Name] some time to win, has been thoroughly debunked by the hiring of Cignetti. Turning IUFB around was a task exponentially more difficult than restoring the basketball program. With a healthy QB we are a legitimate college football playoff contender, in year 1. For those of us who bought into that fallacious idea (I was one of them), read that last sentence as many times as you need, so that it sinks in. I have a renewed trust in the current administration, that we will bring in the right guy for basketball within the next 1-2 seasons. I think we are going to have a good year. Top 2 in the B1G is my prediction. -

With every year I get older, I feel more the wiser. I get on Twitter today to “check in” and noticed we were cannibalizing ourselves…… You can go back and look at my post history….. I’ve been one of the biggest supporters of firing Mike Woodson….. I still don’t think he’s a he guy to get us over the hump. BUT……. This is an embarrassment. More of an embarrassment than Mike Woodson will ever be imho. We haven’t played a single game this season ffs. Is this over a freshman?…..During the transfer portal era of college basketball?….After we completely reloaded and transformed our roster, overnight? We need to get a grip. I’m not convinced that Braylon Mullins comes in, year 1, and is better than a junior Kanaan Carlyle. He would have been a nice brag piece but all of this for a freshman is crazy to me. Makes me question whether I was ever on the right side of the argument to begin with. -

Looking at how Dolson approached and executed the Football hire, how do we think he would approach the Basketball hire, if Woodson were to be relieved of his duties? He had a set of criteria he was looking for in the football coach. I’m curious what those criteria would when the time comes. I’ve come to grips with the reality that the Brad Stevens types aren’t walking through that door. It will have to be an up and comer. Luke Murray gets my vote. -
I’m most looking forward to a few things. I’ll list them in order. 1. The offense: Woodson mentioned shooting more 3’s and having the roster to play the way he’d like to play. We shall see. 2. Bryson Tucker: Possibly the least talked about burger boys I can ever remember. He’s so good offensively. I believe he will end up like OG Anunoby, in the sense that he comes in with no noise and ends up having the biggest and brightest NBA career. 3. Myles Rice & Kanaan Carlyle: Rice has B1G POTY potential and will likely be the best PG we’ve had since Yogi Ferrell. Carlyle has the ability to score points in volume, very quickly. I think this roster has the potential to be elite. National Championship potential. The coaching is the biggest question mark on this roster imho.

The only factor that has me really wanting this kid, is the optics of landing a 5 star Indiana guard and the energy/buzz it would create with our fanbase. Freshman just don’t have the impact (on winning) that proven veterans do. Look at our roster this year and compare it side by side to last years. It’s wild that we were able to make THAT much of a change, with so little efforts towards traditional recruiting practices. Whether Mullins chooses us or not, I’m not concerned about having a winning roster. We will just go find another in the portal and he will very likely be further along than any frosh. I’m tired of vanity wins and I’m ready for wins on the court. If that’s with 5 star kids from Indiana, or unknown kids from Timbuktu, it wouldn’t make a difference to me. There was a time where it mattered to me. Not anymore.
