  1. He is just a guy. Had a disagreement with a coach many of us had some issues with. Doesn’t make him a hero nor a villain there. Was credited with some good work here. Now will get a chance to do more or not. No reason to vilify or have a parade.
  2. No need for such an extreme reaction. Why not just be happy for an IU guy to have found a place for a new start.
  3. “to our success”. I am not sure I follow, because if they are the reason, or a primary reason, we have success next year wouldn’t it be better to have them than not?? Or are you expecting a Michigan type of quick rebuild and a top 20 team and are using “success” sarcastically such that if they play a lot we are likely to be not successful?
  4. So many things and discussions none of us were privy too will lead to whether Leal or Goode are back. I am Switzerland on them. If they come back, fine. If they come back and play a lot, fine. If they come back and are critical to our success this year, great! If they don't come back, fine. I see no reason to think they will come back and distract the team from talk about the good ol days under Woody. I also have no idea if they will be better or worse under a new coach. Many have left IU/Woody and done well at their next destination. Some have not. Did Goode get irritated with Dakich and kind of say things that were annoying. Sure, have we in response to Dakich, yes. Did he and Leal say things about fans we disagreed with, sure. Were they loyal to the team and generally responsible/good stewards of IU, yes. Can I fault them for being more loyal to their coach than to us fans, no. Come back, don't come back, recruit boilers or wildcats or even illini. Just get us back to being a winning program that is relevant nationally on a consistent basis.
  5. I think this is spot on. I remember Dakich (i know but bear with me) made a comment back when they were struggling that Painter forgot what made Purdue tough. He said go get tough kids who know how to play fundemental basketball, develop them, and get back to winning because you are a tough team to beat. I think the DeVries type coach can do that here as well. Might not be instant success but a coach who is good strategically and can get more out of 4 star kids and even some 3 star ones can have more success than the coaches we have had that could land some 5 star/ McD's but was not a strong enough coach to do much more with them. I feel pretty safe in saying DeVries will be as good as Crean was at his best but and think his floor will compare to Woodson. That range is better than we have seen but hoping he can exceed Crean and bring that floor up too. Too early to tell right now, but I am willing to give him some time to build a winning culture with some over achievers now and then add the right higher end players into the new culture.
  6. I may have misread your comment. Did you say you coached him before? I thought you were quoting someone who coached him. Did not realized that may have been you.
  7. Was that a Montverde coach or a former HS coach?
  8. I think Leal’s fresh or sophomore year he I hurt his ankle and missed a lot of time. His # of games may have been above a normal redshirt threshold but I read where he only play 22 minutes. The minutes played angle should have some merit but not sure it has any precedence
  9. Seems TN had to match Michigan’s offer for him last year so that may be why they did/could not do it again this year.
  10. Good. Still have some skepticism since we seemingly missed on the guys from Bama and TT. Hopefully he really is a top guy on that TN staff and we reap the benefits
  11. Any idea why he would take a lateral move or is he going to be assistant head coach too?
  12. I think the evidence suggests we may have a large NIL but maybe not as big we thought. A lot of schools showed up with big NIL signings who were supposed to have struggled with NIL. Then you have programs like BYU show they may be a big player here too. I think we all saw last year that attracting kids with NIL primarily does not lead to success. DD hopefully will end up being a very good coach but it isn’t like he has had years of success at the P5 level. So when recruits consider us they can see a little bit of his vision in action but not enough to know we will be a top 20 team. So would we rather attract kids who want to play for a winner (we are unproven here), yes, but since we can’t prove that we can only offer hope and money. I kind of like this top midmajor kid approach. Hopefully these kids want to prove themselves and work as if they have that chip on their shoulders. Some schools had instant success. Michigan for example. I think a lot of that is attributed to a good coach sure but also really had kids outperform their portal ranking. Wolf for one. No reason to know we will have this too. Hoping we eithe get a few kids that do exceed their expectations and lead us to a big year or we have a gritty tough team that helps DD show what could be and next year we add more pieces and take another step forward. We all wanted a coach that would grind and work. We may have to do the same as fans and let DD build this. Not panic as he builds even if slowly.
  13. I was thinking along the same lines.
  14. So I think that shows that DD knows it is important but the 17.1 minutes a game also indicates it may not be a requirement with his defense.
  15. WVU did not have a significant rim protector last year did they? If not, does anyone know if that became an Achilles heel issue last year or did they manage it through team D.
  16. Ok I guess I should know but who is the fella in front with his arms out? ( Not the picture with Dwade for you “funny” guys)
  17. Do you know if the prior managers were kept? Munds is a family friend and from a Purdue family so I was hoping he would be retained.
  18. Using this site as a guide you are generally correct NCAA Basketball Stats - NCAA BB Team Defensive Rebounds per Game | TeamRankings.com. However, there are some years where his teams have been very good. Check out Drake in 2022/23 as an example of the very good.
  19. Coach may not have had time to read Btown Banners yet today. He is probably extra busy this week planning for his first little 5. A little later he will catch up and pull any offers he made in mistake.
  20. Stay on topic this is the little 500 memories or Cant remember thread
  21. Would Oats be mad that we asked for permission to speak to him and got a no? Or we did not ask?
  22. I am not sure. I saw one guy tweet that but later when pressed he had no idea why Tucker was going in AH. MM was reportedly working out there last week, Tucker could have been doing the same since he is still a student here.
  23. Would be good to know if it was really a Coach from the new staff or a manager (from old regime) to help him work out. I think I found the tweeter of this and he just said Tucker was going in to Assembly Hall and assumes he was going in to meet with the current staff. The picture is only of Tucker and he could have been going in to get a workout in, clean out his locker, get a snack or talk to the current staff.
