I was curious what the West Virginia fans were thinking prior to DeVries leaving. Good listen even though he thinks Dakich and Rabby are very plugged in to IU lol

Would love to know the backstory on this as I saw he was likely to Villanova as well then suddenly it was Xavier who I thought was getting Murray. Seems an interesting move from NM to Xavier except I did not really like the NM area from a living standpoint so perhaps that was part of it.

A friend down here in Florida who is a UNC fan came up and congratulated me on the Tucker DeVries signing so yeah that makes it official. I thanked him and his AD

I suspect initially they thought it would be cash and a great opportunity but when it became obvious we were not a great team they were then there just for the bag.

Removing drop ceilings is what I heard lol. Honestly, some of the "Woody is King" pictures were pretty big and we had to hire additional movers to get them out.

Is that why he had that gap in his asst coaching timeline?

Any related info on why he would come. I did see where he and DD coached at Creighton together but why leave Bama when things are rolling there? Would this be a chance to be our top assistant position?

Here is their roster. Drew has been there since 2022 and the only recruit from Indiana has 54 points for the year. Surely there should be some Cincinnati caliber players he could have landed. https://gobearcats.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster

I think it makes sense to have a coach with a strong Indiana AAU/HS connection so Drew makes sense. Murphy would seemingly be a good add but the remaining assistants will determine if this is a strong or just good staff (on paper).

What makes it a strong staff? Murphy has good rep with Alabama but despite Drew being well regarded with AAU here he is at low major that is not killing it. What am I missing.

Listed as a 3* right? Is that stale or does he offer something beyond his ranking.

This part of coaching, even being a little humble, I would excel at. Week one, I could hit a few places every day, get some great food, drink great company. I would kill this part of being the coach. The rest, well, maybe better to have someone else

I wasn't really referring to staff and/or players. More name recognition and positive draw to the school is what I'm talking about. It drew him and maybe a good fan base but he had to bring in D2 players. DeVries could be just what we needed and may have great success here but no reason to throw shade at McCollum. Biggest questions for him are what does he do to sustain success at this level.

If he generally had us in the top 4 of the BT, got us to Saturday generally in the BTT and had good to really good results in the NCAA fans would worry much about style?

Definitely not discounting what McCollum has done with what he has. He just didn't have to build it from nothing. To build something like that it takes planning and deliberate execution of those plans. I like that we have a guy that has shown the ability to do that. What exactly did he inherit? Didn’t he have to bring in around 9-10 players. Did he inherit a staff or did he have to bring that too.

Can you imagine if we hired him? He already had most of this board against the idea and with this performance it would have been a meltdown
