What is the evidence or idea here?

I have seen message board comments to him not interested in leaving TX but not sure i have seen anything that reaches "all accounts". What have you seen to suggest this?

Pearl has said he does not see himself coaching in his 70's so that is likely the reasoning.

Really? There was enough discussion on here and on twitter for that to have gotten to Goodman. Given that we apparently went after him before and if Goodman knows him why not reach out to check for a comment. Goodman may know that Stevens was not likely to go back to college and could have done this to laugh at IU or could have felt he was somewhat close last time and was looking for a story. There was enough smoke for him to at least check it out

Other than this year he has not had great years there at New Mexico right? In the BT seems he had 1 good year with several years in the bottom quartile. Probably one to watch but can’t see him make this jump this year.

To be fair, I think he still wears wooden shoes so let’s appreciate him even being on this page.

Painter almost left Purdue during one stretch and during another he stunk but he changed his recruiting and has been pretty strong with that. This stretch had some pretty lean years but perhaps he survived 13-14 because he had some strong recruits coming in 14-15

Way back when Mark Turgeon was at Wichita State he was a darkhorse candidate of mine. I felt somewhat vindicated that he kept rising up but once he got to Maryland he did not seem to reach that top tier of coaches. His results at Maryland during a time when the BT was pretty strong were not bad. Would hope for more of a splash but this is intriguing

Haven’t been a Cronin fan and he is still not tier 1 for me, but the primary complaint I had about Crean was that he was not consistent. Frequency in the tourney could allow for a deep run occasionally but Crean was not consistent at all. Cronin seems far more consistent and his FF team suggests he has upside. He would be in the group after BS/May and big names likely not to come (TJ, Oats, Few and Drew). Next tier would include a combination of coaches like Cronin, Buzz and McDermott (solid winners who get you in the tournament most every year) vs the next great one group like McCollum, Gates, Byington vs the Baggage group including Beard, Goldon and Pearl (age and son in waiting?). if you miss on BS and May then I interview most from the three groups and see which you think can get it done here. If I felt like I had to win right away regardless you might take one from the baggage group. If we cannot afford another miss because the coach is a screwup then you might decide you need the steady Eddie and choose a safe pick from middle group. But if Cig and football buy you some time and you think one of the next great ones you can help become great with support staff (like we tried with woody which he ignored) and $ resources NIL then you could go that route. I could support any of them but really order the first 2 (and assuming the “won’t come” group really won’t come.)

So assuming this happened and the job discussions did occur to some extend there is no way I can think of know that Brad would tell only Goodman he wasn’t coming here. He would also have told Dolson, thanks but no thanks. If the latter happened when do we see signs Scott is moving on

Have read 2 articles about him now but do you think his manic like fear of a level set for fan expectations would be too much for him here?

1) sometimes all you can do is laugh even if you have bad news. A supplier increases his price to me Friday morning and while I it pissed us off and I worked all day to replace them there were a lot of times where we just had to laugh. 2) Maybe they don’t believe Brad is a no 3) Maybe they felt they had to go after Brad and were worried he might string them along too long. If he is a No perhaps they we just as happy with choice 2.

Do we expect the AD to speak before the presser for the new coach? I don’t.

Fair point. Stevens momentum definitely appeared real and dominated action but it seemed May, Cronin and the D2 guys had some healthy discussions. Bread, and I wish it weren’t so, has some things in his past that seem non starters for some.

I was out for dinner and came back to find the board overtaken by a bunch of new accounts dunking on the Stevens to IU possibility. Seeing @WayneFleekHoosiers post about all the twitter accounts changing their picks made some good points about why Goodman would reach out to Stevens camp. Twitter is a big platform and I am not sure if Stevens IU was trending prior to Goodmans tweet but there were enough burners with his picture and just tweeting his name that now it seems as if they were trying to force a reaction. We get a mild one and boom they infest this site .

Then the burners showed up here yesterday after Goodmans tweet to troll.

I agree here. So how do we know which it is? We watch and see what happens. If we start to hear about our interest in college coaches it will suggest we are moving on. Trilly had said there did not seem to be much activity on the college side but maybe that changes.

I still have a hard time with Cronin. I had May and Stevens tied and would be thrilled with either.

He may not come here. That quoted comment from Stevens was basically the same thing May said. The part about not being a candidate was not quoted and it certainly could have come from him with the intention of shutting this down. But if you have followed coaching searches there have been soft comments like that and even more definitive comments from coaches who still end up taking the job. Taking a victory lap now as if his coming was the craziest idea and it is definitely over while basically just showing to this community is tiresome. Maybe you will be right. I am sure we find out soon.
