Without the buyout I'd take Cronin over McCollum every time, even if the ceiling is Crean level; he's not worth that buyout though.
-
Yeah, the guy that created it pronounces it like the peanut butter.
-
I thought so too, but the creator of it pronounces it JIF, in his acceptance speech even had a PowerPoint with a slide saying "it's JIF not GIF".
-
I'd take McCollum over Brownell. That's not an endorsement of McCollum, I want Brownell about as much as I want Mike Davis back. I've said, and stand by it, that IU cannot afford the risk McCollum just being the latest flavor of the month.

Woodson's head coaching career ended in 2014 before IU was dumb enough to come calling. I want absolutely no part of seeing Brownell fail here, but it's pretty hard to be on the level of Woodson.
-
Then gave Woodson a raise for what should've been bare minimum expectations. There's zero reason to have any faith that this hire won't be another disappointment.
-
He's from Indiana and his name isn't Mike Woodson.
-
Brownell has been at Clemson 15 years; he's won 53% of his conference games, made the tournament 4 times, and finished top 5 in conference 6 times. Let's not gaslight ourselves, that would be a bad hire and he would fail here.
-
Atleast Cignetti had P5 experience before he was a HC. McCollum has none at all.
-
Yep. Just keep giving them our money and shut up about results.
-
If IU hired Brownell they'd just be telling us to spend our time and energy elsewhere, because they don't want the program to actually win.
-
The only people that didn't hate that hire were his buddies and the posters on this board that gaslit themselves into thinking it wasn't an awful hire.
-
Brownell is the "not Mike Woodson" pick.
-
It's IU, he'd be guaranteed a minimum of 4 years even if he went winless.
-
Clearly I missed it. I didn't see Peter Frampton or Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

I'm not too too hung up on a coach's age, especially not after the last 8 years. I'd gladly take an older coach that can right the ship fast and stabilize the program for about 10 years. IU isn’t in a position to risk someone like McCollum that has never had any high major experience of any sort; Cignetti isn’t a good comparison as he played P5 and was an assistant at P5 program (including under Saban at Alabama) before becoming a HC. Frankly I'd be thrilled with Tony Bennett, his offenses were efficient, but that's not happening.

I didn't think it would happen, but congratulations you named a candidate that would make me prefer Brad Brownell. Well done.
-
I'd be shocked if IU hired Beard, they passed on him before his arrest. This is also a guy that UK and UL passed on, and neither of them are afraid of taking a coach with issues.
-
Then a week later loses to Whatsamatta U by 25 on a neutral court.
-
Just invent a time machine and hire Stevens before he goes to Boston, then we'd avoid the last 8 years.
-
It's too early to be breaking out this gif I can hear the conference now, "allow me to introduce the men's basketball coach, Brad Brownell. If you'll excuse me I need to start the next coaching search, see you in 4 years".

One of the other finalists is Tark Murgeon.
