What program dominates with in-state recruits? Maybe UCLA? Not sure ANY program does so, including all blue bloods.

Before the season, many of us (myself included) believed that the success of the season greatly depended upon whether we have a quarterback. We have a quarterback.

Sorry to call you out a bit, Baltimore, but much of what you posted above is absolute nonsense. Your list of who Crean Coulda/shoulda gotten but didn't? Hummell? Committed to Purdue two years before Crean was at IU. Dawson? Arrested this year for felony domestic assault. Punched Travis Carroll in a MSU/PU game. Good player, but not a good guy, to say the least. Teague? Never should have been a "student-athlete". Lyles? Puhlease, we've been through that one with Papa Tom Lyles and the de-commit many times over. Swanigan? His adopted father is a pro player agent, and a Purdue grad. Really? DeShaun Thomas? ONCE AGAIN as Inside The Hall quoted "committed to OSU long before Tom Crean arrived at IU." JuJuan Johnson? FOR A THIRD TIME!! Committed to Purdue about two years before Tom Crean arrived at IU. Blueitt? Nice player...by all accounts, him and Yogi were never going to go to the same school. Robinson? The son of Purdue's all-time great, and UM committ Mitch "Cheech and Chong McGary's" bestest buddy? That leaves Gary Harris and Zak Irvin; I'd throw Kellen Dunham in there too; we would have had a good shot at Dunham, though him and Irvin are far from 5 star program changers. You sir, have mastered the art of the straw-man argument with your post. Good day, sir.

In-state recruits present an inherent advantage for IU: those kids can have their family and friends at games. Otherwise: Character, Athleticism, Shooting ability, and Work ethic... Those are the qualities I'm looking for, and I don't care if we get them from a kid in Indianapolis or Timbuktu.

The two straight Sweet 16s didn't translate to recruiting success?!?!? We went to two straight Sweet 16s, and then "The Movement" came! Sure, it didn't work out, but Yogi, Hollowell, Patterson, Perea at LaLu were the highest ranked kids in the State that year, save for Gary Harris who waited until there were limited open spots. That momentum turned into in a recruiting upswing, at least if you believed the star ratings at the time. Of course, the star ratings for those very highly thought of in-state kids did not reflect quality of play or quality of character. I get the feeling that CTC has learned that lesson; he now wants high character kids, athleticism, and shooters. If he can get that in-state, all the better. If he can't; he will gladly defer to the OGs, Juwans, and Al Durhams of the landscape.

Well heck...the fact that he re-tweeted it gives it some modicum of credibility in my book. Hard to figure out 16 year olds, but apparently is a reasonable clue as to which programs he's leaning toward. Can't see NC State, Vandy, or Purdddooo. That gives a set of seven most likely contenders. If UL and UNC get nuked by the NCAA... if UCLA and Kansas are too far from home... That leaves us, UK, and Dukey!

Zach Osterman re-tweeted this top ten list from a guy named Julius Kim from "phenomhoopsreport". An hour or two later, Kim had a follow up tweet where he basically admitted he didn't know what the hell he was talking about: Julius Kim ‏@JKim97 1h1 hour ago That Romeo Langford edit is NOT his final list.

Kind of an early top ten for a top five player, eh? Also notable that we're the only B1G school in the mix (unless you count Purdoo). Edit: I'm not seeing where he's listed his top ten. Source?

That's a more than fair take on it. I disagree only in that each five star is different, and Romeo Langford's recruitment, family situation, and geographics have a lot more in common with Cody's than with someone like Ben Simmons, Cliff Alexander, Anhony Davis, Skal LaBassierre, Nerlens Noel or Okafor. That doesn't mean we'll get him, just that we have a legit chance.
