Great response AK. Trust me, I agree with your post, mine was just more in reference to a few posters who lose their mind on missing one recruit. 2020 was always seen as a weaker class, especially because of it being a less star studded class for Indiana recruits. A lot of solid players, but not to the level of TJD. It does absolutely suck if we lose Garcia to Marquette, especially because I felt he easily made us a top 25 team, if not top 15 with who we return. It’s one of those things that Archie did a lot of things great, but may have lost out because he connects better with Marq. staff and he would be able to be their go to player from day 1. We could even break it down as maybe the coaching staff relationships are equal with Garcia, but Marq. really pushed that IU he might not even be a top 3 option. Even when we have a ton of success, it’s never a guarantee we will land the recruits we go hard after. It’s impossible for that to happen. This isn’t towards you, but that’s why I shake my head at some posters who are so negative when we miss one recruit we went hard after, but got 3 others in 2020. We will be fine, and Archie is showing he can recruit very well. If Archie misses a lot of the in-state ‘21 and ‘22 recruits, then I can understand being more worried. While it seems like it won’t go IU’s way, I don’t think we can fault Archie and staff for doing everything possible to land this guy. They worked so hard, but sometimes it doesn’t go our way. No matter what, Archie is recruiting well and the on court product so far looks a lot better. A lot of reason for optimism, even if it’s very cautious, with the trend of this program! Hope like heck he chooses us, but not holding out hope because proximity to family can be a deal breaker for kids/families. No insider info, but know that having family close by is just as important to a kid as other stuff. If he chooses us, I feel we are a top 25 team next year if everyone returns. I agree, I just believe he hedges way too far and often gets in the way of the guard when trying to recover. Seems to have the hardest time with hedging. I guess my initial word was too strong, he does have good stats, just was hoping to see some things a little better. At least we can have some disagreements while up 40 is a good thing? IU definitely playing with more purpose and fire. Definitely a fun half of basketball, and great to see Green back and hit that basket to end the half. Hope that will get him more momentum and comfortable. Really the only negative I could say is Brunk continuing to underwhelm. Hope it’s just getting used to a new system. Didn’t get to watch, but we lost to a top 10 team on the road by 7. I know it sucks and apparently we played well enough to win outside of mistakes and refs, but normal IU teams lose this game by a lot more.
