Big Ten Upsets

Recommended Posts

With all the Big ten upsets this season, how do you think that skews the national view of the conference? Do these upsets help or hurt Indiana's chances at landing an at large bid?

I'm kind of on the fence either way, so I'll chime in a little later... Discuss!

I think it hurts.  As of now, there are only 5 teams over .500.  OSU is going to make the tournament.  I don't see them finishing under .500 though.  I think the B1G gets 6 this year.  MSU, UM, OSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, and the 6th is up for grabs.  IU's next 8 games are perfectly winnable.  They have to take at least 6 to have any chance, IMO.  Unless we beat OSU or Iowa, and then get to at least 19, we aren't making the tournament.  If we win 6 of the next 8, we can get to 19.  I think we still must win one in the tournament, but we have a shot.  Looking at the other conferences, they are as top heavy as we are for the most part.  I am sure that is overly optimistic, but teams make runs out of nowhere all of the time.

You know.. I'm not sure. I'm a big ACC (not as strong as everyone thought this year) guy obviously because of Duke and this is really my first year really getting into the Big Ten and IU ball and it seems like this conference beats each other up every year to the point some B1G teams have nothing left in the tank come tourney time. I just think it's crazy to think that out of all the super talented teams the B1G has had since MSU won it all in 2000 that the conference hasn't won a title since.

Looking at it right now, I think we get 6 team in the tournament.  For a 7th team to sneak in, that team will need to finish the season strongly and/or make a deep B1G tourney push.  There are so many teams bunched together in the middle of the league right now I think it definitely gives an outside observer the notion that the league might not be as strong this season.
