  1. Don't bring facts to this discussion! LOL
  2. This is for Chris or anyone familiar with the process. We have 4 potential recruits coming in for the Michigan State game. I think I read that Sisley, Mullins, Reynolds and Sularski are unofficial visits. Do they have a player host for the weekend? Which players does the staff use? Does Dolson meet with the players and parents or just the coaching staff? Thanks to anyone with knowledge of the process.
  3. The problem was Sampson, not IU. He is a tremendous coach but failed to live up to his responsibilities while at IU. Sampson made his choices while at IU and paid for them with a 5-year show cause penalty. Hopefully, he learned his lessons and is playing by the few NCAA rules that are left.
  4. Pearl received an extension and raise in 2022. How's that for timing?
  5. I understand getting input from former players. The program belongs to the former players more than it does to us fans. They actually have put in some sweat equity that we need to respect. At the end of the day, we have to rely on the Athletic Director making the correct decision after receiving everyone's (current/former players, fans, and big donors) input.
  6. Possibly the alums assumed he could coach IU because he coached in the NBA. There are some people that are NBA snobs. The NBA has the best players in the world and a lot of smart basketball coaches. They assume since the NBA play is better, then NBA coaches could easily coach college ball. Some things do translate which can be seen in well-designed out-of-bounds plays. However, the games are different in a lot of ways with recruiting, player development, and roster utilization chief among them. It's no coincidence that Juwann Howard was better with Beilein's players or Woodson with Archie's.
  7. I think Kathywitha C may be someone that we can trust.
  8. I think we may want to start being respectful of the Board of Trustees on this site. ;-)
  9. Or very Machiavellian. Bruce and his agent may just know how to play the game. I hope that I'm wrong, but it is a concern.
  10. I know that most of you have jumped on the Bruce Pearl train. That's understandable, Bruce is high energy with a great personality. He also plays a winning brand of basketball. Pearl would be a much better coach for IU than Mike Woodson. My concern is that the Pearl camp is just using IU for leverage. There's just too much noise around Pearl to IU. I think Dolson is professional enough that the leaks and rumors aren't coming from the IU side. That would mean they are coming from Pearl's camp. If so, Pearl really could be campaigning for his IU dream job. However, I think it's more likely that he's simply pressuring Auburn for facilities upgrades or to have his son named his designated successor. Just some concerns from a pessimist.
  11. Did Dolson also meet with some former players? I thought that I read that somewhere?
  12. Nice win for Nevada at Boise State last night. Nevada is now 38th in Kenpom.
  13. We go into every game thinking we're young, the guys don't know each other yet, our injuries are insurmountable, avoid taking three-point attempts and throw it in the post and watch.
  14. I'm predicting that one of the former players who backs Woodson will speak to press about the Pearl rumors. I would imagine that they'll say that IU would never hire Pearl to coach at IU because he's had NCAA violations everywhere he's been. Probably throw in that Bob Knight would roll over in his grave if IU hired someone with Pearl's issues.
  15. Here's my expectations of an IU basketball coach. After the first 2 years, Woodson would have scored well on numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4. This year he would only score well on number 4. I feel like he has been way below expectations on 5-10. These would be my expectations of any new coach that we would bring in. Expectations for the IU Basketball Coach 1. Consistently be ranked in the top 20 nationally 2. Consistently be ranked in the upper third of the Big Ten and winning a Big Ten title once every 3-4 years 3. Win 90% of home games 4. Recruit quality young men that will positively represent the university on the floor and academically 5. Establish a midwestern recruiting base in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan 6. Recruit players whose intent is to play 2+ years in college basketball 7. Build the roster through high school recruiting and utilize the portal to complete the roster because of an unexpected departure 8. Play a modern style of basketball that attracts recruits and provides an opportunity of beating an athletically superior team 9. Establish a team identity 10. Establish a program culture
  16. MgBako has played better the last few weeks. His plan was to be a one and done. He will enter the draft.
  17. I hope they keep Howard.
  18. Self- Kansas > Illinois. Williams- North Carolina = Kansas (Williams was an alum, money had nothing to do with it) Beard- Texas > Texas Tech (Beard was a Texas alumnus/dream job) Kentucky > Memphis (Memphis a mid-major) IU < Auburn, IU < Alabama
  19. You're missing the point. Hiring a coach that's currently at a winning P5 program rarely happens even for so called Blue Bloods. Pearl's Auburn program is currently superior to IU. He's not leaving for IU and we are just being used. I'd love Oats, but the same thing goes for him. Why would he leave Alabama to come to IU? Our best shot might be Otzelberger from Iowa State. He's developing a solid P5 program, but he's never won the Big 12. Otzelberger did make a Sweet 16, but I've been told that could just be flash in the pan. I'm not even sure that he would see IU as an upgrade over Iowa State.
  20. Not sure what you mean by acting like a blue blood? Blue blood basketball programs: North Carolina- Hubert Davis Promoted from within. No previous head coaching experience. Prior to that Roy Willams came over from Kansas, but he was a North Carolina alumnus. UCLA- Mick Cronin came from mid-major Cincinnati. Prior to that, Steve Alford from mid-major New Mexico. Kansas- Hired Bill Self from Illinois. Prior to that hired Roy Williams who was an assistant at North Carolina. Duke- Jon Scheyer promoted from within. Prior to that hired Coach K from Army. Kentucky- hired Calipari from mid-major Memphis. Prior to that Billy Gillespie from Texas A & M. Connecticut (New Money)- Danny Hurley hired from mid-major Rhode Island. Kevin Ollie promoted from within. It appears that Blue Bloods hire from within or hire the hot mid-major coaches more than they hire from another P5 school.
  21. Here's one of many soon to come articles on why Michigan should keep Howard. The articles and national pundits telling us why we should keep Mike Woodson will be coming soon. Five reasons Michigan should keep beleaguered Juwan Howard as coach (msn.com)
  22. I posted this a week or so ago, but I think it needs repeating. I can't see IU pushing/forcing out Woodson to hire another former IU player or manager. That would be too much of an affront to the old guard (Woodson, Buckner, Wittman, etc), IMO, the only way Alford or May can be the coach here next year is if Woodson voluntarily resigns.
  23. We need Jake Diebler to win out. I don't want Dusty at Ohio State.
