Woodson's system can beat teams with lesser athletes/talent. His system has little chance of beating teams with equal or greater athletes/talent. Every time we've played quality opponents outside the conference we've been worked over. His system is also susceptible to teams that move, screen and shoot the three well (See Penn State). Wisconsin, Maryland, and Minnesota were all much less talented than we are.

The Big Ten is not good. We have more high-level talent than most teams, especially Minnesota. Other than Izzo, Mike Woodson does less with more than any other coach in the Big Ten.
-
Obviously, we'll never know but I disagree that a younger Woodson would have been better than Archie. Woodson has NIL to pull in top recruits. Without NIL, Woodson's recruiting would be atrocious.
-
We now know what we had already assumed. It was never about an IU guy. It was always about giving the job to Woodson, period.
-
Read the room. Not the time.
-
Can we assume that Dolson was doing background work on possible candidates if the season spiraled out of control?
-
Dolson can't say the truth. The Cook's and the Simons wanted Mike to get another year. As the AD, you don't lose the golden gooses. So, Woodson gets another year.
-
Assume you're Scott Dolson making the decision on whether Mike Woodson is getting a year 4. What's the most concerning issue? Won/loss record this year and underperforming last 2 year based on the talent on the roster? Style of play? Roster construction? Lack of recruiting foundation and no in-state recruiting? Offseason player departures tied to his return?
-
Roster of 12. We don't need no extra stinkin' guard.

I would love to see a national breakdown of wins per NIL dollars spent.

We have 1 recruit coming in next year with at least 2 scholarships open and most likely 4-5 scholarships that will be open. I have a hard time believing that there isn't a late bloomer in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, or Michigan for IU to offer. The unwillingness or inability of this staff to find diamonds in the rough to develop is unbelievable.

Don't bring facts to this discussion! LOL

This is for Chris or anyone familiar with the process. We have 4 potential recruits coming in for the Michigan State game. I think I read that Sisley, Mullins, Reynolds and Sularski are unofficial visits. Do they have a player host for the weekend? Which players does the staff use? Does Dolson meet with the players and parents or just the coaching staff? Thanks to anyone with knowledge of the process.

The problem was Sampson, not IU. He is a tremendous coach but failed to live up to his responsibilities while at IU. Sampson made his choices while at IU and paid for them with a 5-year show cause penalty. Hopefully, he learned his lessons and is playing by the few NCAA rules that are left.

Pearl received an extension and raise in 2022. How's that for timing?
-
I understand getting input from former players. The program belongs to the former players more than it does to us fans. They actually have put in some sweat equity that we need to respect. At the end of the day, we have to rely on the Athletic Director making the correct decision after receiving everyone's (current/former players, fans, and big donors) input.

Possibly the alums assumed he could coach IU because he coached in the NBA. There are some people that are NBA snobs. The NBA has the best players in the world and a lot of smart basketball coaches. They assume since the NBA play is better, then NBA coaches could easily coach college ball. Some things do translate which can be seen in well-designed out-of-bounds plays. However, the games are different in a lot of ways with recruiting, player development, and roster utilization chief among them. It's no coincidence that Juwann Howard was better with Beilein's players or Woodson with Archie's.

I think Kathywitha C may be someone that we can trust.

I think we may want to start being respectful of the Board of Trustees on this site. ;-)

Or very Machiavellian. Bruce and his agent may just know how to play the game. I hope that I'm wrong, but it is a concern.
-
I know that most of you have jumped on the Bruce Pearl train. That's understandable, Bruce is high energy with a great personality. He also plays a winning brand of basketball. Pearl would be a much better coach for IU than Mike Woodson. My concern is that the Pearl camp is just using IU for leverage. There's just too much noise around Pearl to IU. I think Dolson is professional enough that the leaks and rumors aren't coming from the IU side. That would mean they are coming from Pearl's camp. If so, Pearl really could be campaigning for his IU dream job. However, I think it's more likely that he's simply pressuring Auburn for facilities upgrades or to have his son named his designated successor. Just some concerns from a pessimist.

Did Dolson also meet with some former players? I thought that I read that somewhere?

Nice win for Nevada at Boise State last night. Nevada is now 38th in Kenpom.

We go into every game thinking we're young, the guys don't know each other yet, our injuries are insurmountable, avoid taking three-point attempts and throw it in the post and watch.
