I remember 2017 very well, the Indiana State blowout on opening night and then an almost identical game against IPFW a month later Since then I have had the perspective of a win is a win no matter who we play. Not making excuses for the play but this team is clearly still working on things. I thought there were a lot of adjustments to the offense last night and it looked pretty good. Nothing I have seen so far makes me feel any differently about this being a team that really gets it going in conference play. I understand the frustration but man it gets exhausting at times. I'm just excited that our record is exactly what it's supposed to be going into a big game on Sunday and I'm excited to watch.

The ALL THINGS ABOUT ANNOUNCERS Thread

That's a much better comp. Pretentious know it all "I'm smarter than you" type -
Honestly starting the season this way is refreshing in a weird way and could be good for the team. A lot of times we start out just blowing out bad teams and then our first loss where some things get exposed is really tough to handle. This year, the team knows what it needs to work on and we as fans know we aren't world beaters yet and need some patience. I would like to see a blowout *by us* tomorrow though lol

When Purdue and IU are not involved he is pretty good, however I think the constant love he gets is going to his head a little bit. Could easily see him turning into a Dakich lol. -
The ALL THINGS ABOUT ANNOUNCERS Thread

I don't even need bias in our favor either. I tried to ignore it and thought maybe I was just annoyed with our play because obviously he's a Purdue guy and I'm not trying to whine about the announcers but after listening again it's just ridiculous. Both games you could tell he was really enjoying each mistake and getting excited about the idea of us losing. I thought it was ridiculous when X got called for a questionable foul and he looked frustrated, which was fair it was a bad call, and Hummel immediately started pushing a narrative that X wasn't letting it go and it was affecting his play which I don't think was fair at all. Just finding any reason to be negative about a team that everyone knows is a work in progress and the majority of college basketball media has been saying all offseason won't be good until January. -
I am just hoping Hummel is not calling this game. I know people love him as a commentator and he is pretty good outside of when he calls IU games. I think he goes way overboard during our games and tries to criticize as much as possible. We haven't played well but he just continues to harp on every little mistake and it's really annoying. I've seen plenty of teams play really poorly so far this season and the commentators don't go at them nearly as hard as Hummel does us. The past two broadcasts have almost felt like the announcing crew was rooting for the upset to happen but then you go and watch a game on ACC or SEC Network and a team is struggling and you don't hear nearly the same amount of excitement in the commentator's voices at the prospect of one of their conference teams losing a buy game.

IUBB vs Army - Sunday, 11.12.23 @ 7:00 on BTN

I don't think anyone is asking us to shoot 30+ threes a game. I think 16 to 20 would be just fine but 11 threes a game is not enough. -

We really gonna do the X discourse all year aren't we? Shocking newsflash, college basketball player has some flaws. He was the one guy that played with intensity from the jump and without his production in the first half we probably lose that game. I get so frustrated seeing people nitpick every little thing he does and ignore anything positive he brings. He's a good player that helps our team. I thought people would get off his @$$ after the massive jump he made at the end of his first season but he seems to still have a target on his back from some of our fans and I think that's ridiculous. -

I think perspective is important as well. A lot of teams look like **** right now. Not to mention FGCU pushed Pitt to the brink last night as well. It is so early, the sky is not falling, and the team did not lose it's potential due to a few bad performances in *wins*. Go Hoosiers! -

I could be wrong but what I see when watching our offense is a team that is trying to be more perimeter oriented but doesn't really have the tools to do it the way they want to. I really think our best offense starts by dumping it in and letting Malik facilitate but we're going away from that to try to be more modern instead of playing to our strengths (you can still play modern basketball this way, you saw it at the end with the ball movement to the Cupps three). Now he has to continue to improve as a passer but making the defense collapse seems to work a lot better, especially because X is really our only guard that has the type of burst you need to get by people to make the defense collapse. Malik and Ware can absolutely play together and I still think Mgbako can develop into his role though the 3 guard lineup seems to be much better right now. One of two things needs to happen to stabilize this team right now, either Mgbako needs to improve his effort level (would help if we ran some plays to get him involved) or CJ needs to wake the hell up and realize he is a good basketball player that doesn't need to press. I say all this with the knowledge that I am not the coach and Woody has to decide what he thinks is best for the team, however we are 2-0 and trying to figure things out. Ware has been awesome, X is still getting back into playing real basketball and having to basically learn a whole new team. The panic is a little premature in my opinion but would be really nice to see us blow Wright State out on Thursday for sure. -
I'm ready for this one to be over and I hope we never recruit against Maryland again. The obsession on peegs with the Maryland board has reached a point of being totally pathetic and it's completely dominated every thread. There is no reason at all we should give any sort of **** what Maryland fans think. If we lose this one we will make it up on the back end in the spring, if they lose this one they are screwed. Just overall shocked at the level of real estate some IU fans have let maryland purchase in their heads
-
To me, if he is torn I feel better about that as an IU fan than I would as a Maryland fan. Feels like in that situation he probably has a connection to the Maryland staff that has been recruiting him for so long and it's closer to home, but the situation at IU is something that he feels just makes more sense as far as fit and what he wants to accomplish. He could end up choosing Maryland but I think that in general IU makes more sense for him as a basketball player.

Game Thread: IU vs FGCU - 11/7 @ 6:30 on BTN

At this point it feels like those that don't like X decided that in the first 10 games or so of his IU career and haven't been willing to change their minds, trying to hang on every little mistake he makes while ignoring the huge benefits he brings to the team. Yes he does get a little out of control at times but he has grown so much as a player in his time at IU. I actually think last night is a perfect example. He had a rough first half because they were blitzing him on the ball screens, the team adjusted and so did he and in the second half he had 10 points and no turnovers. -

I think it's great we got challenged a bit by a solid team night one. Lots to work on but you can see the flashes and potential these guys have. Need some improvement from the Wings and CJ but I think they will get there. I think Mgbako at the 3 might work a lot better during Big Ten play than against teams that like to space the floor more but all in all I'm not worried about him getting it going, Also want to point out that I think Woody coached his @$$ off tonight. Showed flexibility, found something that worked and stuck with it with the 3 guard lineup but also with the short roll when they were blowing up the ball screens. Also thought he used his timeouts really well. -

Finally, a real game. It has been an exhausting recruiting offseason I am ready to ***** and moan about missed shots, defense, and turnovers! -
RIP Coach. I’ll never forget being in the building when he came back.
