10000% agree. Hes on my short list!
-
Or they are waiting to announce at the end of the season?
-
I threw his name out yesterday too … I didn’t realize he’s 63. Given his age, however, I’d still be on board with him for 7-10 years.
-
I also wonder if there is a different non current college coach in the mix?
-
How was he in over his head at Dayton? His system led him to multiple tourney appearances and win. I think he wasn’t successful at IU bc of all the other, non on-court stuff the IU job requires - which he simply didn’t have the personality for nor had much interest in. But his Dayton resume was very solid IMO.

We’re all just guessing and speculating and trying to connect random dots. With that said, Dolson made a great football hire. He’s been working on this bball for over a year now. While the lack of any ‘real’ information is frustrating, I think we can hopefully take solace in the fact that Dolson knows what he is doing and iu will end up making a great hire because of Dolson.
-
That’s awesome.
-
I could see how people would think this. On the flip side, part of me still thinks May was plan B and the extension at UM was confirmation Dolson has his guy. Just my opinion.
-
I keep going back and forth between it being an active coach (which nobody has leaked per se - just speculated) and someone not coaching in college now (if Dolson has his guy). meanwhile, we’re in a coach search and may make the tourney. Not sure it gets any better.
-
Thanks. I’m just trying to connect the dots here with everything. I’m still hopeful it’s Stevens, but if not, I’m thinking of non-current college coaches … Wright, Donovan (don’t think it’d be him), etc.
-
Is Jay Wright a possibility at all?
-
Haha. Fair. I went on a recruiting trip/camp there. Then the same trip/camp in Bloomington. Glad i ended up playing in Bloomington!
-
I can see that perspective, but personally think Collins wouldn’t be a whiff. Is he a grand slam? Probably not on paper, but his middle name is X & O.
-
IMO, Collins would be phenomenal. Deep down, I think he woukd want it too. I listen to him all the time on Chicago radio and it’s apples to oranges compared to Woodson (and Archie - whom I really liked as the hire at the time). Collins absolutely has the personality for iu. Very relatable. Talks like a dude we can all relate to.
-
Good stuff here. Thx. I don’t think I realized how mutual this match could be.
-
Thanks. Makes sense why he’d be interested. Mega pay day and possible better chance at long-term, sustainable success. I suppose I’ve always thought b12 coaches were well compensated, but looks like it’s just the very top ones. Bloomington > Ames imo too. And he’s from Milwaukee, so no true Iowa ties (besides his wife is alum). I still wonder, however, IF Dolson would’ve had an agreement from him already. Big IF. And that’s a whole different bag of speculation. thx again. He’s more realistic than I thought and it may be more mutual than I realized
-
That would make sense. Everything I’ve read about him, which truthfully hasn’t been a ton, is that he’s happy in Ames, good personal situation there, and wife is an alum. Signed an extension with smaller buyout (which seems a tad odd). I would guess IUs NIL is very attractive to candidates.
-
SIAP, but why would TJ want out of Iowa Stare? Do they have NIL issues?
-
I’ve been crucified for this, but Collins is near the top of my list!
-
Coaching szn + maybe a tourney run = heaven
-
Also the nba waiver deadline is 3/1. Perhaps he wants to solely work in his GM capacity until then?
-
I question anyone who didn’t draw that conclusion…
-
Let’s pretend it is Stevens …. Will more of us be happy he’s our coach or that Goodman was wrong?!?
-
What now?
