  1. This will be the successful model, blended with some of the arguments the NFL used. Because football will drive the whole thing anyways. They’ll make new case law, likely at SCOTUS. Or get a legislative exemption. Politics—legally speaking-are turning their way, although I’d still scrap the NCAA and start over.
  2. Good. It means our scout on him is probably pretty good.
  3. Get the right two and the rest of the scout becomes a wee bit easier. Seeing Shelstad and Bidunga visiting together made me think that the school that (if?) lands those two and 3 spot up shooters who were at least willing defenders you’d probably make the tourney easy with a chance to make the 2nd weekend.
  4. How have age limits in pro leagues and HS across the country withstood that? It’s been a long time since I read it but the NFL basically made a maturity/age/safety argument in the Clarrett case, no?
  5. Heard Gabe Cupps is back on the market
  6. Why? Also, being struck down immediately is less relevant than if it can withstand the run up through the appeals court.
  7. Del Harris is the only guy to both coach at Huntington College and the Los Angeles Lakers…that I know of.
  8. I’m in S Florida gorging myself on grouper, gulf shrimp, and good tequila. Mr. Lettuce phoned to say we have a national title contender next year. Feelin’ good!
  9. That was my initial impression. And 180lbs might be generous for Burton
  10. Seems like a lot of schools might be doing that since nobody has signed yet. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the bigger names take visits and see if they can get bidding wars going.
  11. I’m not sure that’s true anymore. It’s just an old way of thinking based on a newspaper (those still exist?) poll. Only about 9-12 teams were truly competing for a title. Maybe less. Only Florida suffered any real upset among those teams. And things mostly played out as one would suspect. We’re in the world of haves and have-nots now.
  12. I’m not getting into any of “who knows inside info and who doesn’t “ around here. But I will only point out one thing: almost all verified national reporters will be pushing out “inside info” that comes from players agents. Most of that info is just agents trying to pump up their players price. It’s the oldest trick in the book and happens every FA season in the pros in every league. That type of reporting is pretty worthless, imo.
  13. We’ll almost assuredly be top 25 in total roster spend…again. Whether that nets a top 25 roster is another story. We’ll be paying top dollar while other teams merely have to retain their best players, or get guys on friendly deal because they want to play for a proven commodity, or get a keen Euro scout. We won’t get the benefit of 1 or 2 and after last year I wouldn’t count on 3 unless Carr comes up big. So basically our money might not go as far as some other teams.
  14. We’ll see how he does with a one year rental. Either way, him getting a good ballhandling guard after Stirtzs success was almost guaranteed
  15. None whatsoever. I didn’t get the point of getting a euro who has been pro for years and can’t compete in the B1G and redshirting him.
  16. Same reason he’s leaving Wisconsin: $$$
  17. Is IU not going to even kick the tires on Blackwell? Wouldn’t he be a proven physical B1G ready guard to pair with Burton?
  18. Geez it’d be nice if for once we had a 3/4* frosh pop and be an awesome starter a la Waggler or Braden Smith.
  19. Yea, they kind of skipped the whole grind it out phase and went straight to the top. Annoying.
  20. They obviously didn’t think he was ready to contribute last year. But honestly, I thought he looked fine physically and athletically the little he played, especially for a backup guard. If they think his development is going well enough, I don’t have an issue with saving money and having Ristic be the backup PG.
  21. Don’t forget Rick Pitino and Calipari who flamed out and came back to college to win a title at different schools. Somehow I like those examples the best. :{
  22. Basically, he’s a score-first PG. I do think he’s a pretty good passer though, so the question is if he’s a willing one. I can buy that a good coach can coach that into him. Or maybe he naturally loves to pass-first but has taken on a more score-first disposition because ND’s been so bad. One final thing is he’s a possibly a mediocre 3pt shooter. If you want to throw a bunch of 3 pt shooters out there and play “modern basketball “ and have an athletic shot blocking center like Fru, does that take a another poor 3pt shooter like Harrelson off the board? Burton had solid numbers from 3 his soph season so maybe that’s who the staff thinks he really is. Take those questions in the context of overall I think you definitely take him if he’s coming here for a fair price (whatever that is). There were plenty of questions about Cadeau’s game last year that all seemed to fade away once he found the right coach and supporting cast.
  23. Recruiting. People here called Woody lazy but he was just doing what he’d done in the nba for decades: coach during the season and then enjoy his offseason. Dusty May won the title and 15 minutes later the portal opened. He doesn’t even get to get drunk and celebrate if he wants to be working at…right about now…like all the other coaches.
  24. I’m not 100% sold on fit but it’s a good pickup. And to hit the ground running by nailing a top 5 player at a position of need is a good start for this staff.
  25. I’m not looking it up either and hope you’re wrong after what we saw this year. We tended to let pressure get to us. We were even a good ft shooting team this year but not always when we needed to be. Thinking back on that maybe a first-rate floor general is our most pressing portal need—even more so than a dominant big.
