  1. Nobody really knows the market but I’d hope like heck we’re not paying Sisley $2M. He was an end of the rotation guy who surely couldn’t have gotten a million anywhere else.
  2. I envy you. I still occasionally wake up in a cold sweat from a nightmare where IU is down 1 with 15 sec to go and Woodson is on the sidelines telling everyone to clear out for Rice.
  3. That would be a near perfect fit. The possibility is seemingly so remote, I’m not sure it’s worth really discussing, though. I don’t remember what the scenario was with UM and Landenborg last year but I guess I got the sense Dusty had both a soft commitment from him should he come back and some reason to believe it was a real possibility he could drop from the draft.
  4. I hope Memphis doesn’t test for grip strength.
  5. You and shooter are correct. Landenborg was a wing—their starting “3”—who could slide down to a 4 when they went small. They also got lucky when he dropped out of the draft. Had he signed with UM first they would’ve had a lot harder time signing someone like Johnson as his agent would’ve looked at the roster and saw a similar but better player who would take any minutes from Johnson if they were forced to play small. As it is Johnson only played 25mpg but Dusty made it all work and I’m sure Johnson was happy to trade a slightly smaller role for a title.
  6. Agree. It’s in a coach’s best interests downplay how much they have to spend and overestimate how much his competitors have.
  7. You need a big in case of fouls or injury but I really doubt anyone that comes in makes the actual rotation. Devries has never played with two bigs before. Splitting Yigi and Sherrel would mean about 20mpg of two bigs together and 20mpg where one of them is the singular big. You can’t get a quality backup big that doesn’t fit in the rotation and just force them on the floor if there’s an injury. Most coaches will just go small at that point. Even 7’ center addict Matt Painter went small when faced with an injury 2 years ago. It would be really weird for a “small ball/4-out” coach like Devries to not do the same if faced with an injury. Woody was committed to 80 mins per game of post play and we still ended up with backups like Hatton, Sparks, and Duncomb. I’d expect something like that at best for our last big spot.
  8. Imagine going ‘65…1865. Talk about a politically charged environment. lol. Did they visit Lincoln or Johnson?
  9. As others have theorized, it’s likely a money thing. It’d be nice if we had an ace left up our sleeve, though. I think the Burton/Sherrell combo has enough potential synergy to be season defining on its own. But yea…odds are your assessment is correct.
  10. This roster is so different from last year or anything Devries has had before it is either a generational overcorrection, or Carr has a little more runway than it appears from the outside and this is what he prefers. I kind of like it as a high floor/low ceiling roster that can be built on next year
  11. I haven’t pulled up much video but he’s supposedly a slasher who is pretty mediocre efficiency wise inside the arc (lots of long 2’s?) but shoots the 3 ball well but on less than 2 attempts per game. We’ll see what this new staff is made of with his and Harris’s scouts. Two gambles whom we apparently loved. Sherrel and Burton aren’t without their warts either but I think you probably get enough of both that even their potential downside is worth it. If Carrs scout is right on those 4 and CDD can coach em up, there’s a lot of potential there.
  12. I wonder what they have left. It wouldn’t surprise me if they have a small pile they could throw at the right guy as the market drags on and prices come down. And if that doesn’t happen they can just fill out the roster and roll mostly as-is. I get the same sense as you, though, that they’re unlikely to get in a bidding war for somebody at this point.
  13. You need to take up golf or pickleball or something. Lol
  14. Guess it depends on the prospect. Luka Doncic played pro ball at 17 and was league MVP at 18. Wemby was similar but not quite as advanced, iirc. If this kid is on that level, he’ll somewhere between all-American and dominate even at 17. As much as I hate the older euros coming in, this is the cool part of NIL, imo. It would’ve been awesome to watch Luka dominate college ball for 2 years—especially if he were in an IU jersey!
  15. It’s just another pro league for the Euros. They play with younger guys all the time. I keep harping on it, but 1) the schools should ditch the NCAA and 2) keep any new rules they make with a strong focus on being paired with the traditional American path of universities being pre job market training intuitions of 19-22 year olds. This is a tragedy of the commons situation where if you let the individual teams bring over 25yr old euros/current pros they will, but it is better off for everyone long term if nobody does.
  16. I don’t know what their media rights deal is but I’m sure they want to auction it off to Amazon or Apple or something. They’re the most tone deaf org in the world.
  17. Between this and the transfer eligibility stuff, the B1G and SEC should break away from the NCAA immediately. Bring the Big 12 and ACC. Invite the Big East and midmajors for the basketball tourney. NCAA is just intent on screwing everything up and grabbing every last red cent until the inevitable happens anyways. Crapping on the basketball tourney should be the final straw.
  18. Good call. **Now back to your previously scheduled Wang talk**
  19. Hate to see this guy as a colts division rival but happy for him
  20. Ballard is an idiot. Pain being a colts fan. If my clients didn’t love the tix so much I would’ve ditched them years ago.
  21. Aiden is that guy with average measurables but an insane football IQ. Honestly he might be my favorite player of the CIG ERA (but I was an old LB many moons ago). I can see him going 6th round and being a starter for 8 years, or special teams at least. Kind of has a Zack Thomas or Dat Ngyuen feel.
  22. This is where the amnesia is killing me…lol. From the moment it was announced Woody was moving on there was tons of chatter on this board about not playing 2 bigs, playing a bunch of perimeters who can jack 3’s and play “modern basketball” (presumably small ball). And people were happy that Devries’ style was just that. It’s only relevant in this thread as so much as we can try and guess at any players that might be added next. This roster still needs one more big (quality to be determined) and is a little short on shooting. My guess is if Devries has his way It will be a cheap developmental big and maybe a proven shooter if we can snag one. Why? Because he likes to play small ball and will likely want to split time with Yigi and Sherrel on the floor. He built his first rosters at both WVU and IU as 4-out small ball rosters. That last statement would have elicited nearly unanimous agreement at this time last year. But maybe he’s really committed to putting a 5 with Sherrel on the floor at all times in which case they have to add a 5 who is proven they can play 10-15mpg. As far as I can tell he’s never built a roster like that, but he obviously has help building the roster this year.
  23. Yea, if he were 5’11 he’s easily a day 1 pick. Wish the Colts would’ve kept their first and just drafted ponds this year
  24. This is just wrong. I’m not speculating, I went back and read through the thread. You can too. This isn’t “gotchya” either because I have some takes like that in there as well. The funny thing is we started off hot last year landing Tucker, enright, Gonerway, Bailey and Wilkerson almost right away. Nobody said anything about assistants holding us back. Then a lull set in and people—rightfully so—worried about Bailey being the starting 5 and who we would get to help down low and off the bench. Leo Curtis and Thiam were some names thrown around. It wasn’t assistants who slowed Devries down, it was a couple of misses and failing to supplement the core guys he initially brought in.
