That's the only way there's a change this season. Dolson puts lofty expectations on for next season which Woody cannot meet and decides to retire. They will not fire him. Dolson hasn't issued a statement purely because his hands are tied for this year and he's not attaching his name to this flaming dumpster fire.

It's just kind boggling to me. We could fire Woody now and bring in Dusty. He would have Trey, Leal, probably MM and Reneau, and bring in 3-4 starters from his top 25 FAU team and have a top 25 team here next season. He could also likely land a couple good 2025 recruits which Woody cannot do. Or we keep Woody for one more year which will probably be a worse season than what Dusty would have here next season. Then Leal, Trey, MM, Reneau, and the 2025 class are all gone and Dusty inherits a complete dumpster fire when he takes over next spring assuming he's still available. So someone here explain to me like I'm a 5 year old...why are we not just firing him now?

He's only been there 2 seasons and won a national title as a player. But I bet Louisville will have no problem firing him any day now.

As far as next season everyone needs to pray that we either win big or lose big. Anything in between is the doomsday scenario imo. Worst case scenario is Woody squeaks into the tourney, gets blasted, and the administration thinks he did just enough for a year 5.

Now does "someone" at the Indy Star write an article like that without the blessing of Scott Dolson? He's most definitely coming back but this is all weird to me.

Yeah I can definitely see a Mike meltdown next season if we don't win big. The "I am the coach" line really struck me as a man about to crack. Reminded of that famous scene from Thrones. If he really was a good coach he wouldn't have to announce that and the administration wouldn't have had to announce he's coming back.

I honestly feel if the fan base thought he was doing a decent job he'd be much more inclined to just retire and go lay on a beach. The thing that I heard, can't confirm it, maybe someone else can. Basically Dolson never liked the hire. That's why he brought in Matta and Fife. Buckner made the hire. However, Woody said he was the bridge guy wouldn't be here long. That's also what Buckner assured Dolson. If he wins big great. Everyone is happy. If not don't worry Scotty boy Mike will go quietly into the night if things don't go well or whenever you line up a big hire. Things clearly aren't going well and the future looks extremely bleak. Also, Dolson now has his man locked up. However, Quinn and Woody have reneged on their word, dug their heels in, and Dolson isn't happy. Am I close?

Just assure us that the powers at be understand the repercussions of what would happen if we keep Woody for one more mediocre season before an almost inevitable firing while Dusty goes to OSU and kills it for 20+ years? Please tell us they aren't this stupid.

Depends. Ultimate doomsday scenario is Malik and MM return, we get a few decent guys in the portal, win 20 games on the nose and squeak into the dance as a double digit seed before getting blasted in the opening weekend. Woody believes he's flipped it, insists on a 5th year, and Quinn gives it to him while coaches like May and Schertz are now long gone. It's almost guaranteed to happen imo.

Maybe someone should inform him of the track record of NBA to college coaches.

And it's basically we know it's huge mistake to bring him back but we're doing it anyway. Why? Well he's a former player so we can't hurt his feelings. Also, Archie got 4 years so automatically Woody gets 4 years too. Insane.

Everyone I know associated with the program hates Woody. Capital W. If the worst happened tomorrow 80% of the IU fan base would pop the champagne. It is what it is. Bring in Pearl or Dusty. What is the worst that can happen? Woody is disgusting beyond belief. Just an awful human being.
