It could be something as simple as the overall money stays the same (or close) but the contract length changes. For instance, if $100M / 10 years ($10M/year) is the offer and the counter is $100M / 8 years ($12.5M/year) or $98M / 7 years ($14M/year). I have no idea if that is the case, just throwing out a possibility. I'm pretty skeptical about Stevens even getting as far as negotiations and doubt he's being considered at this time.

That's probably from Beard and company or IU fans trying to will it into being true. Won't happen.

Since there is a rumor from the Texas 247 site Trilly Discord in the coaching candidate thread that Scott Drew will be the next IU coach, I guess I'll start a thread just for him. He would be a home run hire, imo. Took over a Baylor program that was in a terrible place and hadn't been historically good and not only turned them into a consistent winner, but won a National Championship there. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-coaching-candidate-profile-scott-drew/ https://www.insidethehall.com/2025/02/21/indiana-basketball-coaching-search-profile-scott-drew/ https://www.crimsonquarry.com/2025/2/24/24370605/indiana-basketball-coaching-search-scott-drew I personally have my doubts since he turned down UK and UL just a year ago. Maybe being from Indiana will be enough to change his (or his wife's) mind. I guess we'll see.

I agree that Woodson being retired before the end of the season was damage control. I still think (or rather, hoping, I guess) that Dolson was preparing for making a basketball hire since the end of last season. I'm not on the "Woodson wouldn't have been fired unless Dolson had his man" boat. So I don't think he needed to have a good idea of if they would say yes or not before letting Woodson go, but I think he did have that info. To me, the lack of an official statement of support for Woodson getting this year shows that Dolson was likely ready to move on. Instead of that official statement, we got a "leak." Very tepid support for Woodson. As someone said, when you start wondering if the coach should be retained or not, it is time to move on from him. So a good AD would start to prepare a bit for that to happen.

If Woodson made it to the end of this season without being "retired," there would have been even more angst and insanity. It just would've been fretting about whether Woodson would be back next year instead of who the next coach will be. I certainly expect that Dolson did have a longer list than just 2 or 3 names and he probably had a good idea at the chances of landing Stevens or May before Woodson was "retired."

Some people on this board do believe that, others don't. You should come to your own conclusion on if you believe it or not.

As fun as coaching searches are, I'd go for the one that would be there longer.

The College Bball Thread is over 3k pages. The previously named Fire Mike Woodson thread is over 2k.

As long as his head isn't grotesquely large in his time at IU like in that picture. Yikes.

I wish.

Maybe. But if you look at it, the most definitive post was the 1st on Feb 14th where he said Drew is going to IU but he still kind of hedged that one with it being coaching chatter. Every one after that uses hedging language like "a favorite", "most likely", "if". Another way to look at "things can fall apart" is as hedging language. We hear things like that all the time in recruiting and can see how that goes. The point is, he's not saying as definitively as was initially stated. Like I said, it would be a great hire but I'm just not really buying it at this time.

Thanks, that helped me find some of the posts. In this one from yesterday, he says that McCasland will go to Baylor if Drew goes to IU. https://ontexasfootball.com/forums/topic/5890-hoops-college-coaching-carousel-2025/page/15/#comment-112967 In this one from Saturday, he says that Drew is a favorite for the IU job but that doesn't mean it's a done deal. https://ontexasfootball.com/forums/topic/5890-hoops-college-coaching-carousel-2025/page/11/#comment-112395 Last Wednesday, Drew to IU most likely. https://ontexasfootball.com/forums/topic/5890-hoops-college-coaching-carousel-2025/page/9/#comment-111720 First post about it that I saw. From 2/14. Coaching chatter says Drew to IU and McCasland to Baylor. https://ontexasfootball.com/forums/topic/5890-hoops-college-coaching-carousel-2025/page/5/#comment-109974 Telephone sure is a fun game. It's always interesting to see how the original gets distorted by the end.

Just saw Andre Curbelo was dismissed from his current team, Southern Miss, a couple of days ago. That guy has been around forever. I remember Miller wanted him badly. Another Miller evaluation miss that was also, luckily, another recruiting miss. Dude turned out to be a turnover machine. He has to be out of eligibility now, right?

IU Mens/Womens Swimming and Diving
go iu bb replied to LIHoosier's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
It's championship season! The women had their B1G Championship meet last week into the weekend. They finished 2nd to OSU. It ended up close but not nearly as close as last year (0.5 point difference). OSU was probably helped a bit by it being at their pool. IU's B1G champions: Grana: 100 fly - also had 2 2nd place finishes, great meet for her, 2nd to Bacon from Wisconsin in individual scoring Peplowski: 500 free - plus 2 3rd place finishes, great meet Paegle: 50 free Crawford: 200 breast Liu: 3 meter, platform diving - I haven't seen, but she was likely diver of the meet 400 medley relay https://swimswam.com/2025-b1g-womens-swimming-and-diving-championship-box-score/ The events that really hurt IU were the IM events. They got absolutely crushed by OSU in those. 112-9 in the 200 IM and 110-44 in the 400 IM for a combined 222-53 in those events. OSU outscored IU by only 58 points for the whole meet. Ouch. Unfortunately for IU, OSU had freshmen score a ton of points and Michigan had the best scoring of the meet by swimmers who will have eligibility left. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
go iu bb replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The great thing is Dolson gets to decide, not some random guy on Brown Banners who is a Beard lover and doesn't care about domestic violence. He can complain all he wants but it's not his decision at all. The online domestic violence apologists are not making the hire. Even better, Dolson won't be hiring him so getting upset about people being opposed to hiring a woman beater will be moot in the end. -

You seem to think that IU moving on from Woodson was a surprise to everyone else. It wasn't. Schools will make decisions on whether or not to extend their coaches regardless of if the status of the IU job. May signing an extension with the IU job open just showed publicly that he had no interest in the position. -
Saying they wouldn't be upset with him being hired and that he's better than some of the other names being thrown around doesn't mean they want him as the coach. I don't see anyone saying Cronin is their #1 choice.
-
It hasn't. Brad was supposed to sign all star weekend but unfortunately his pen ran out of ink. So he is waiting for his ink refill to come in and that takes time. It's special ink made from the horn of a free range, organic grass fed unicorn. So it'll be a few more weeks.
-
He also could have used zoom to attend the meeting.
-
The goal is to hire a great (or even good) coach. The goalie is the IU fan base. The kickers are IU ADs over the years.
-
Probably wanted another Florida golfing trip on IU's dime before he leaves.
-
It doesn't have to be Brownell since I'm sure Alford would take the job if offered. There are plenty of other bad options still available. lol

For those wondering if it really takes him off the board since the buyout went to only $7.5M, after reading this article I'd say yes. https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/dusty-may-michigan-agree-to-contract-extension-amid-indiana-basketball-coaching-search/ "I think it makes it obvious: I'm staying at Michigan," May told CBS Sports, adding, "I really wasn't interested in leveraging in negotiating" Other info from the article: CBS Sports can exclusively report on the details of May's new contract terms: A one-year extension on the deal, which now runs through the spring of 2030 An increase of $1 million annually in salary A pay bump across the board for the Michigan men's basketball staff A big increase investment for program resources, including Michigan's NIL war chest A buyout that will rise to $7.5 million

Obviously, IU is not May's dream job as many thought it was. I question whether IU would have gotten him even last year since he rejected UL because it's a fishbowl. Stevens May Who's next up?
