Looks like UM will pull this one out so there will be a B1G team in the Sweet 16.

Truly doomed? Dealt a fatal blow? That's a bit hyperbolic. Miller needed to go anyways. Even the not perfect coaches being mentioned are an upgrade after Miller.

Yes, this is what I've thought. People talk about how this program doesn't have the draw that it used to so we'll have to settle for a mediocre choice. I believe that is partially true in that it's not quite as prestigious as it used to be but there is still the history. If that isn't enough of a draw, it appears the school is ready to open the checkbook for the next coach and pay big money. Unless they've decided to go cheap after missing on Stevens, that is.

If this disastrous showing doesn't lead them to reevaluate and make changes, I don't think anything will. Although, outside of officiating, I'm not sure what changes could be made at the conference level rather than at the individual schools. That said, officiating changes could make a large impact on style of play.

I'm curious if anyone knows the record for the number of teams a conference gets to the tournament while failing to get any into the Sweet 16? The B1G is down to 2 teams left with a chance. UM is down 7 (early) to LSU and are missing Livers so they may get knocked out. The other team left is Maryland going against Alabama. So if these 2 lose the B1G will have failed to get any of the 9 teams to the Sweet 16. That would have to be a record if it happens. I just wonder how much of one it would be.

The supposed best conference in the country looks pretty bad. 9 teams in the tournament, including 2 1-seeds, 2 2-seeds, and a 4 seed. Right now only 3 teams left: 10 seed Maryland who will likely lose to Alabama, Michigan with an injured started starter who didn't finish the regular season well, and Iowa whose next game is against a team that was gifted a bye in the first game. I wouldn't be surprised if no B1G teams make the Sweet 16. Maybe the conference leadership will look at this debacle and get motivated to fix the officiating during conference play. I really believe it hurts the teams in the tournament.

Incoming recruit, Josh Matheny, to Breaststroke U resets his national high school record in the 100 breast as the first high schooler under 52s. https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/hsother/2021/03/20/Matheny-Upper-St-Clair-swimming-national-record/stories/202103210087 -

I hope your source is wrong again. Lol -
Amazing. Dick Vitale manages to be super annoying even in a tweet.

Great showing by the women. A lot of the qualifying swimmers are juniors or underclassmen so they will be back next season so they should continue to be good. Do the COVID eligibility rules apply to swimming? I would assume yes but I don't know. Seniors: Grote, Eiber, Kirkpatrick, Kovac. It would be great if they can (and want to) return next season but if not I wish them success in whatever the next chapters in their lives are. -

Not me. I want the the coaching search to go on for a while longer. That means that the next coach is will probably be young(ish) (not Beilein), healthy (not Matta), and a good enough coach to have made a run in the NCAAT. I'm willing to wait as the longer it goes on, the better then next coach will probably be. It's possible he'll continue to strike out for the next month and we end up with an uninspired hire but I'd rather than happens after attempting to make great hires rather than settling now. -

Incredible. Huge congratulations to her! Those points moved the team to 14th place with 96 points. -

Of course, if you were working with them you'd deny it like you do here. The plot thickens. jk -

Yes, the Celtics would have to announce a change to his contract. They wouldn't have to disclose the terms, though. -
VCU DQ for COVID so Oregon gets a round 1 bye.

It's still the round of 64. Most of the good coaches are busy with that. I just don't get all the hand wringing at this point. -
Nonsense. Of course they'd be able to fire her for not meeting expectations.

There are multiple buyouts. There's one if the school fires the coach without cause. Higher is in favor of the coach. There's one (or more if they have different amounts for different scenarios) if the coach leaves. Higher is in favor of the school. This is the one that it appears the previous post is saying Dolson wants to be $50 million. -

People are going to start nitpicking and criticizing Stevens now to feel better about being rejected. Their way of saying: "He's not that good. We dodged a bullet." "We didn't want him anyways." It's all nonsense. He would've been a great hire. -

Yep, I'm not buying the raise either. Sounds like something made up to explain what when wrong. So it's probably 1 of the following possibilities: 1. Maybe the undisclosed terms of the extension gave him more of a raise than thought. I assumed he's now in the $4-5 million range. Maybe it's actually more so the $7-8 million offer that has been rumored want as big of a raise as thought. 2. Maybe the offer wasn't as high as thought. 3. Maybe even a big raise wasn't enough to convince Stevens to go back to coaching college. Even if he gets fired from Boston another NBA team will ****** him up. (This is my guess.) 4. Maybe Stevens said no to IU a while ago and the info people have been receiving have actually been in regards to someone unknown and was mistakenly associated with Stevens. There are more possibilities other than a raise, I'm sure, but there are what I can quickly think of off the top of my head. -
I'm not saying you're wrong but why him? An NBA assistant for 12 years with no college or head coaching experience. I'm sure there's a bunch of those around so what about him stands out to you?

No, I didn't. I swam for 3 years in HS and a couple of summers but not after that. I was ok at best - scored points at sectionals in every event I participated in but only a couple sectional A-finals, mostly consolation finals and my times weren't good enough for state. Backstroke was my main stroke and I swam against the a state record holder and 2 time state champion my first 2 seasons and then the guy who would go on to win the next 3 state championships my senior year. Secondary events were fly and IM. One of the schools I was considering (Rose-Hulman) is D3 and my times were good enough to place in the top 1/2 of their conference A-final. I also knew their coach since he also coached one of the HS we swam against every year. So if I had decided to go there I would have joined the team but went to that other IN B1G school instead. What were your events? I fell in love with the sport during that time so I still follow it. I hope in addition to NIL, Olympic athletes will also be allowed to receive the money other athletes receive if they win a medal. At very least, people like King, Ledecky, Manual, Dressel would be able to still earn endorsement money while in college which is good. For many of the non-revenue sports camps during the summer will likely be how they earn. -
Scott Drew is my second choice.
