There was the portal, sure, but it wasn't the same as what it is now. At that time it was just a more convenient way to do transfers. Basketball players, except grad transfers, did not get immediate eligibility until 2021. So not really comparable to the transfer portal of today.

I was mostly referring to the concept of getting mid-major guys that have produced at that level, often making their all-conference teams and sometimes conference POY type rather than just looking at potential that just hasn't panned out yet at any level. 2 of the players were on high major teams last year. His son and Enright, so we have a good idea of what we'll get from them next year, assuming 100% recovery from their injuries. Parker Stewart, the supposed shooter from UT-Martin, was a Miller recruit. Both he and Woodson were poor at evaluating talent. It remains to be seen how good DeVries is at it.
