IU Mens/Womens Swimming and Diving
go iu bb replied to LIHoosier's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
https://swimswam.com/2023-world-championships-day-1-finals-live-recap/ Ahmed Hafnaoui takes silver in the 400m free (0.02 seconds from gold). This swim set a new African record and is #5 all time, less than 1 second from the WR. He'll be really good for IU (yes, I like to state the obvious). If he has a good transition to SCY (he does have a year of practice already) he can challenge for NCAA titles. I'm excited to see how he does. Josh Matheny moves on to the finals of the 100m breast as the #6 qualifier. -
(2025) - PG Jalen Haralson to Notre Dame

I was also able to read it. It's not behind a paywall. Does the Indy Star limit the number of free reads per month? If so, you may have hit that limit, Scott. -
2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to Texas A&M via Portal

Effectiveness of freshmen is always a question mark before the season for me. I think they'll be good but you just don't know until the games start. I wouldn't have expected someone like Ware to have such mediocre numbers last season, for example. The improvement of Reneau will be a factor. Can he stay on the floor or will he continue to be prone to fouling? Will anyone make a jump in 3-point shooting? Can Galloway maintain close to that percentage from last year or increase his volume while still maintaining a decent percentage? Lots of new faces on the team. How well will they mesh and how long will that take? I think the floor is a decent to pretty good team with the potential to be a great team. Where on that spectrum they end up falling depends on the answer to these and your questions. -

I've been thinking Ware is the X-factor that will determine how good IU is next year. If he makes the big jump that he's capable of, it would be the difference between a pretty decent to good team and a really good to great team. This team has lots of question marks but tons of potential. As a freshman, Mgbako is one those questions but he's so good that I am not worried he'll produce. -

He's been on campus for like a month and a half. There might be some improvement in that time but nothing drastic. There are lots of tricks that can be used in photography to show results like that other than just angle. Some of them are on display here: - Flexing - Lighting - Before vs after workout - Sweat/oil or not He's definitely ripped but he already was when he got to IU. -
Kokomo Monster (2024) - C Flory Bidunga to Kansas

He's not that good. We didn't want him anyway. ;) Disappointing but not surprising. Fortunately, this coaching staff is recruiting several other quality centers who are good enough that I wouldn't even consider them (at least Queen) as "backup" options to Bidunga. What a refreshing change from the last 20+ years where the coaches seemed to focus on a single player for a position then scramble when he chose another school. -

And then IF the NCAA actually wins that court battle, they'd likely have another one from any NY school they tried to punish for following a state law. -

I'm never upset when IU is the first school out of a recruit's mouth. Doesn't mean he'll choose IU but it shows they're on his mind and have a chance. -
I doubt it.

A rough couple of years continues for Dukie V. He announced he has vocal cord cancer. I hope he can recover. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/38002463/espn-analyst-dick-vitale-says-vocal-cord-cancer

Lol. Not a very good list

2024 (SF) Tyler Betsey to Cincinnati

I'm guessing UConn is the team to beat here. He does say good things about the IU coaching staff and assembly hall but it might be hard to beat the in-state team which just won the NC. -

Before his senior year or senior season? I haven't seen any quotes but are you sure it's year and not season? -

Yep, almost 7 fouls per 40 minutes. He did improve some over the course of the season in this aspect but still fouled a lot. He's said he's working on defense a lot during the offseason so being able to defend without fouling is quite likely something he and the coaching staff are concentrating on improving.

TJD got himself a good deal for 4 years with 2 years guaranteed. In that way, it's like a 1st round contract but the money won't be. Still way better than most 2nd round picks get.

Another headcase Miller missed on. His terrible recruiting did have some positives. -

It wasn't a joint injury. It was a broken bone in his foot. I'm pretty sure it didn't require surgery but instead he got surgery to try to speed up the recovery process because he really wanted to play again last season. Anyway, I'm done with repeating myself. You don't think he's a lock as a starter. You're welcome to your opinion which will ultimately be proven wrong when he's a starter next season after practicing all summer at 100% barring n unrelated injury in the future.

Maybe her keeps entering the portal waiting for that it IU or PU scholarship offer which will never come.

For the money they're getting, there will always be people who know basketball and are willing to put in the work. Good luck to him or other coaches on finding similar income. Especially with less work. I don't know what Wes Miller's background is like, but I'm going to guess his family was pretty well off.

Yep. The priorities of the committee seem to shift every year. I've seen interviews with committee members done years where they explicitly stated that the number of wins was a large factor and other years where they placed more emphasis on SOS. Best bet is to to find a nice balance between the two where the team can get plenty of wins with a decent SOS.
