  1. It's definitely more travel but them acting like the conference was all close together isn't really accurate. UofA to UofW, for example, is a 24 hour drive so flights and likely at least 1 overnight stay would be required for that. That said, it seems as though there was ~0% consideration to the athletes given by the conference and schools. At least we no longer have to listen to them spew crap about how "amateurs" can't get paid.
  2. FSU and the other 1/2 of the ACC which want out still need to figure a way out of the poorly thought out agreement they signed. I'm sure they'll get there eventually but it'll take some time.

He did have 1 season at Missouri so we don't only need to look at his MAC stats. Subpar 3-point percentage that season at only 30% at ~5 attempts per game. Even his FT percentage that season was way down from his other years so many that was just a bad shooting season for him? Kind of sounds like the increased competition level messed with his head to me. IDK. He did start most of that season and played a lot of minutes as he also did at BSU. That makes me wonder how happy he'd be to play as a backup getting significantly fewer minutes. He is a large guard at 6-5 which is what Woodson seems to like. Anyone know about his defense? 2021-22 Missouri SEC JR 31 21 28.5 3.1 8.7 .361 1.6 3.8 .436 1.5 4.9 .303 0.9 1.4 .643 0.5 2.9 3.4 2.8 0.9 0.2 2.7 2.1 8.6 9.10 https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/jarron-coleman-1.html
  4. Yeah, I don't get all the hand-wringing so many have about his health. Sure he missed most of last season but not because of complications or the seriousness of the injury but just because of the time it naturally takes to heal. He was close to coming back at the end of the season so no reason to think that he wouldn't be fully healed well before next season.
  5. Sounds like JHS in that aspect as he was said to be a gym rat while at IU too. I think Cupps is the same from what I've read. That's the kind of culture that has been missing since Miller took over so I hope it rubs off and others become as dedicated to working on their games. Crean had many faults as a coach, but he did do a good job of bringing in gym rats and built that kind of culture.

I'm shocked! Okay, not so much. Especially considering who his father is. Good player but not a huge miss going by both his ranking and the schools still in the mix. Solid but not great and IU is still in the mix on some better players.

(2024) - VJ Edgecombe to Baylor

Probably scared away since IU is going to land McNeely, Queen, and Fland so he thinks he would have too much competition for scoring. vbg Can't win them all but I certainly love that this coaching staff isn't willing to take a shot with a bunch of highly talented and/or athletic players. They're still in on some other very good players who can fill this spot.
  9. Hafnaoui wins the 1500 in championship record time and the 2nd fastest time ever in the event. He had a great meet with 2 golds (800, 1500) and a sliver after getting out-touched at the wall in the 400. Not only did he place well in all 3 events, but his times were exceptional and some of the fastest ever. I'm actually wondering if he'll swim in competitions for IU this year or not. There is another Worlds in February and the Olympics are also next year. Matheny has also had some success at this meet (although no medals) so he may also take an Olympic redshirt year. I hope they both compete for IU this year but certainly wouldn't be surprised or blame them in they didn't. I guess we'll see. https://swimswam.com/ahmed-hafnaoui-and-bobby-finke-become-second-and-third-fastest-1500-freestylers-ever/ Lilly King takes silver in the 50 breast, getting beat by a WR performance. She also wins gold as part of the medley relay. https://swimswam.com/2023-world-championships-day-8-finals-live-recap/

Probably, but in IU's favor this is their second to IU. I don't know if they're making a second visit to any other schools.

It'd be so great if just once one of these possible package deals works out in IU's favor.
  12. Finishes eighth. No medals but 2 events and 2 finals is really good. Great international experience for him and something to build on since he's still young. Hopefully, he can use this to have a really good upcoming season for IU although LCM is quite different than SCY. He may just be a much better LCM swimmer than SCY. Finnerty was the opposite.

You mean we're not going to land Leal's backup?
  14. Matheny qualified for the finals in the 200 breast at #6.

This is likely Leal's final year (I doubt he uses his 5th season of eligibility) so it looks like Woodson is trying to bring in his replacement a year early.
  16. Hafnaoui takes gold in the 800. #3 all-time in that event. https://swimswam.com/2023-world-championships-day-4-finals-live-recap/
  17. Matheny places 7th with a time of 59.45. Lilly King is the #2 qualifier in the 100 breast finals.
  18. https://swimswam.com/2023-world-championships-day-1-finals-live-recap/ Ahmed Hafnaoui takes silver in the 400m free (0.02 seconds from gold). This swim set a new African record and is #5 all time, less than 1 second from the WR. He'll be really good for IU (yes, I like to state the obvious). If he has a good transition to SCY (he does have a year of practice already) he can challenge for NCAA titles. I'm excited to see how he does. Josh Matheny moves on to the finals of the 100m breast as the #6 qualifier.

(2025) - PG Jalen Haralson to Notre Dame

I was also able to read it. It's not behind a paywall. Does the Indy Star limit the number of free reads per month? If so, you may have hit that limit, Scott.
  20. Effectiveness of freshmen is always a question mark before the season for me. I think they'll be good but you just don't know until the games start. I wouldn't have expected someone like Ware to have such mediocre numbers last season, for example. The improvement of Reneau will be a factor. Can he stay on the floor or will he continue to be prone to fouling? Will anyone make a jump in 3-point shooting? Can Galloway maintain close to that percentage from last year or increase his volume while still maintaining a decent percentage? Lots of new faces on the team. How well will they mesh and how long will that take? I think the floor is a decent to pretty good team with the potential to be a great team. Where on that spectrum they end up falling depends on the answer to these and your questions.
  21. I've been thinking Ware is the X-factor that will determine how good IU is next year. If he makes the big jump that he's capable of, it would be the difference between a pretty decent to good team and a really good to great team. This team has lots of question marks but tons of potential. As a freshman, Mgbako is one those questions but he's so good that I am not worried he'll produce.
  22. He's been on campus for like a month and a half. There might be some improvement in that time but nothing drastic. There are lots of tricks that can be used in photography to show results like that other than just angle. Some of them are on display here: - Flexing - Lighting - Before vs after workout - Sweat/oil or not He's definitely ripped but he already was when he got to IU.
  23. He's not that good. We didn't want him anyway. ;) Disappointing but not surprising. Fortunately, this coaching staff is recruiting several other quality centers who are good enough that I wouldn't even consider them (at least Queen) as "backup" options to Bidunga. What a refreshing change from the last 20+ years where the coaches seemed to focus on a single player for a position then scramble when he chose another school.
  24. Good showing. https://iuhoosiers.com/news/2023/7/13/mens-swimming-and-diving-indiana-swimming-and-diving-sends-15-participants-to-world-championships
  25. And then IF the NCAA actually wins that court battle, they'd likely have another one from any NY school they tried to punish for following a state law.
