IU Mens/Womens Swimming and Diving
go iu bb replied to LIHoosier's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
The Olympic trials have begun. IU has swimmers there, of course. Steele made it to Wave II. https://iuhoosiers.com/news/2021/6/4/mens-swimming-and-diving-hoosier-trio-competes-in-day-one-of-wave-i-olympic-trials.aspx -
And now the hiring of Thad Matta looks even better. Too bad Roberts jetted but there is still that GA they hired.

The guy making that video didn't seem to think highly of him. He was rooting for them to fight and seemed thrilled by the result.

I saw on FB that Jon Rothstein reported that Jordan Bohannon was attacked on Sunday morning and received a serious head injury that required medical attention.

2023 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)

Oh, definitely splitting hairs when talking about the highest ranked 4* or lowest ranked 5*. Rankings aren't entirely accurate and certainly not with the precision of 1 ranking position having any meaningful difference. I just find it interesting that he would be a 5* in the composite but not a 5* in any of the 3 major ranking services. There might be others that go into that composite which have him as a 5*. I'm not really sure. It's not really a big deal, just something I find interesting.

NCAA's ineptitude continues to be displayed. It isn't as though they haven't had time to figure it out. The state of Indiana should pass a similar law so at least the athletes at IN schools could take advantage of the NIL while the NCAA gets its $#!7 together. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/ncaa-council-unlikely-to-recommend-name-image-likeness-rules-as-states-laws-set-to-go-into-effect/

Certainly adds more doubt to the whole "Brunk was forced out" view.
-
So he's not a 5* in the individual rankings (at least 247, ESPN, and rivals) but he is one in the composite rankings. That's interesting.

I paid for a year of peegs years ago when they were still at rivals. This is the type of "quality" you get for your money.

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff
go iu bb replied to Hoosierfan1901's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Indeed. From that article it looks like he's been developing professional players since he was 3 or 4 years old. Quite the prodigy. -
I like that we have 2 games against Minnesota, Nebraska, and Penn State. Playing Michigan only once and at home is good. The away only games all look winnable. Pretty favorable schedule.

(2018) SF - Jerome Hunter Transfers To Xavier
go iu bb replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It sounds like he was kicked off the team. If he wants to play college ball he can still enter the portal and transfer. If he stays at IU, his schooling will continue to be paid for per IU's BOR. So the choice is up to him at this point what he wants to do. I expect he'll transfer and play next season. -
If anyone could have a roster crunch while having as many players transfer out as UGA has, it's Crean.

To be fair, it was almost $5.5k.

(2018) SF - Jerome Hunter Transfers To Xavier
go iu bb replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
“Jerome has had a tough go of it. His injury was not one most people have. He is not the same athlete that he once was. He does not have the same ability that other guys have to recover." - Miller The question is, can he get that athleticism and quickness back? Is the "recover" above talking about his quickness and ability to recover on defense or his ability to recover from the injury and get his athleticism back? I think it was the former but it's not entirely clear from the full quote which it is. -
Mike Woodson to be next IUBB coach. Thad Matta to be associate AD

That long? :( -
Yep. If he was told he wouldn't get much PT and decided to leave that isn't being forced out, it's being honest. Better that than lying to make sure he stays. I've made this same point to no effect. Forcing him out to me means that they wanted him gone which makes no sense. I think he was told honestly that he didn't fit the style and wouldn't get much PT. If he had decided to stay I don't think they would've been unhappy.

Yes. https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/di-council-adopts-new-transfer-legislation#:~:text=All Division I student-athletes will have a one-time,The board meets April 28.

Hmm, maybe I got the wrong "J" month in my head. I thought it was June but I could be wrong. Edit: You're correct. July 1 it is. That seems like an awfully long time after the finish of the season and the passing of this rule. June 1 would've made more sense but the NCAA will be the NCAA.
-
June is too late for them to receive the waiver for immediate eligibility so I doubt we'll see any transfers then. The deadline this year is June 1 and going forward will be May 1.

As far as #2 goes, I've wondered and asked about that but never really got an answer. In both his junior and senior seasons he injured his wrist. I wondered if that negatively affected his shot and it just hasn't been fixed yet or if he was always a bad shooter. From what you said, it sounds like the former instead of the latter. In that case, I really want him to stay. Even more than I already did. He has a really good motor, has great hustle and does a lot of small things that don't show up in the stat sheet, can drive and get to the rim, and has a great understanding of the game. If his shot can be fixed and his defense improved, he could be a very good player for IU.
