(2026) - F Caleb Gaskins to Miami
go iu bb replied to go iu bb's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
That's probably a good way to take it. I feel there isn't really any reason to get one's hopes up at this point in the recruitment, which has just started. When it gets close to a commitment and IU is still in the mix? Maybe then would be a good time. Considering this guy is coming up on his senior season, IU is starting in quite a hole. I imagine in many of these initial recruitments it may be hard to get much traction and there is lots of ground to make up. NIL can help but with that being equal (or close to), then relationships will likely win out. That said, the line you're referring to is really just a fact giving one. -
He's getting paid NIL so they won't want to redshirt him. A player willing to redshirt would probably also have to be willing to take little to no NIL for that season.

IU has offered 6'8' Caleb Gaskins from Miami, FL. 5*, 247 composite #12. I've seen him listed as a SF and a PF but his twitter account says G. 247 I don't know if this is behind a paywall or not: https://247sports.com/college/indiana/article/indiana-basketball-recruiting-5-star-class-of-2026-forward-caleb-gaskins-lands-indiana-scholarship-offer-christopher-columbus-nightrydas-249661794/

I know this has happened in the past few years but I think some rules have been implemented since then to prevent it.

Transfer Portal w IU Interest

Rabby says the belief is that the chances Leal actually gets another year is small. He doesn't say why that's the belief but I'm guessing it's due to the number of games played since he played 11 games that year. Goode is borderline at 10 games which is just over 30% but still less than 31%. 11 games would be well above 30%. -

I've tried to find out what the revenue sharing penalty is for the additional scholarships. Rabby doesn't answer what exactly it means when he's asked. Best I can find is that the revenue sharing is reduced by the amount of the scholarship, so, in effect, revenue sharing is used to pay for the scholarship. I don't know if that is correct but it's what I could find. -

He can help them buy a house with their NIL money. -
He's planning on visiting IU soon, probably some time this month. Rabby's description of his play: "Long and bouncy, Hill already has the ability to block and alter shots on the defensive end. He's an outstanding lob finisher, can play well above the rim and runs the floor well."
-
Seems good at making good snap decisions and executing on them. Just what one's looking for in a guard.

He hasn't been offered, but IU is watching and keeping in touch with Cooper Zachary from Fishers. I'm guessing this is probably a long game type situation where he'll go to a mid- or low-major school first then they'll be in a good position if he does well and decides to transfer. He is supposed to be pretty good but he's small, listed at 5'10", 150 lb. Maybe I'm wrong and a high-major like IU or PU will take a chance on him hoping he's the next Braden Smith. https://247sports.com/player/cooper-zachary-46156011/

(2026) - C/PF Davion Adkins to Kansas
go iu bb posted a topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
IU has offered 6'8", 205 lb C Davion Adkins of Dallas. Has a 7'2" wingspan. Will probably play PF at the college level. 247 has him with a 95 rating which is a 4*, 23rd overall and the #1 center in the class. The 247 composite has ranked similarly at 25th and the #1 center. Some other schools on his list are ASU, Cal, Houston, Kansas, KSU, LSU, Oregon, Rutger, Texas, and Texas Tech. 247 Back in April, Trevor Andershock described him as an impressive shot blocker who is quick off his feet with good timing. He said Adkins is offensively "raw with his back to the basket but has ball skills." From his 247 page linked above: Scouting Report Evaluated 12/23/2024 Adam FinkelsteinDirector of Scouting Adkins is one of the most naturally talented frontcourt prospects in the class of 2026 and while his tools have been glaring for some time now, he's just starting to turn potential into production at a more consistent rate. A long and athletic southpaw, Adkins is every bit of his listed 6-foot-8 with a massive 7-foot-2 wingspan, and huge hands. He's a bouncy vertical athlete and major lob threat who can rise-up for emphatic finishes. He also has soft natural touch and clear long-term shooting potential that should eventually allow him to stretch the floor both vertically and to the arc. Adkins is much more of a play finisher than he is a playmaker at this point. He's just starting to develop some footwork around the paint, but needs to continue getting stronger, raise his release point in the lane, improve his right hand, and ability to put the ball on the floor when facing up. Defensively, he can be an impactful rebounder and rim protector when he's fully locked in, but possesses plenty of other untapped potential on that end as well. -

We lose a good portion of our team again after this year, including most, or possibly all, of the starting lineup so I agree that building some momentum this year is important. A tournament birth should be the expectation. This year he has the advantage of being able to take an international trip to get in extra practices and games played which should help them gel earlier. This year he had his son to build around and a vision to sell. If that fails, it'll be that much harder to sell that to good players next year. I'm not saying he can't recover from a bad first year, just that it becomes that much harder so gaining momentum early is important. UL had the advantage of playing in the ACC, which was very weak last year. Decent team but not as good as the record would indicate. IU has a much tougher schedule. -
(2026) - Anthony Thompson to O$U
go iu bb replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
According to 247, 11 of those top 15 made it in yesterday to see him. The exceptions were UNC, BYU, Auburn, and Kansas. IU was there at the same time as OSU, Georgetown, and ND. It'll be a battle to land him. I hope the new coaching staff doesn't have to make up too much ground. -
Wrong Davis. Hubert Davis of UNC is the Davis who is talked about in the article and is being referenced in the comment you replied to.
-
I imagine they'll all do coaching as well but they're being brought in more for their recruiting. They all have experience scouting opponents, coaching, player development, etc.
-
According to Rabjohns, IU has recently visited Noah Washington, a 6'4" guard from New Albany. Mark Bargen made the visit. This is 1 of 4 visits he mentioned which included Anthony Thompson and Jason Gardner Jr so I'm guessing it's not nothing. I can't really find anything on him on the normal recruiting sites.
-
I'm not surprised to see this with 5 assistant coaches instead of 3. 2-3 who are strong recruiters and the others have a strength of coaching and player development.
-
Rabby is saying the Clark addition might round out the coaching staff. He has backtracked from Bargen not being in a coaching to position to now saying he'll be a coach but not do much recruiting. Adams, Clark, and Johnson will be the recruiters. He's not 100% on this, but is he ever? Says that adding Justin Bailey is still a possibility.

Wrong thread. This is the thread where you ask why would a P5 assistant coach take a job at IU. There are several other threads for you to complain about the fans questioning the roster construction, the roster thread and transfer portal thread seem like good spots.
-
Adam's isn't being paid more than Woodson assistants. Hunter was getting $450k before an annual retention bonus and other bonuses. He was making over $500k all said. Rosemond also had a base salary over $400k and had similar bonuses.
-
I like the Rod Clark hire. CDD seems to want to run a system which would result in a really good team if it were to have the type of athletes that SEC teams tend to recruit. In fact, several of the transfer recruits they went after (won and lost) they were competing against SEC teams to land. Bringing in a recruiter from an SEC team, and a good team at that, will only help with the transition to having that type of talent. He might also have the connections to help recruit players from the south from his time at TN. Looks like he could also complement the midwest recruiting. He, of course, has the connection to Sunrise Christian. Whether he is really just a recruiter or also helps with player development we'll see. The articles I've read do give him some credit with player development but that is typical for assistant coaches.

My understanding is that Bargen won't be in a coaching role.

We're having this conversation yet again? People want to watch successful teams. IU still has a large fanbase but it is shrinking and becoming more apathetic because IU hasn't been good consistently for the last 25-30 years. Part of that is because of the players. Teams need good players (and coaches) to win. So without that, people stop paying attention. Players need the exposure the schools provide, schools need the skills the players provide. One doesn't exist as it is without the other. Do you know the names of any previous basketball players? Yes, you do and not just because they played at IU. You know them because they were good or great players who happened to be at IU and helped build the program. To put it another way, if it had ever truly been the amateur sport that it was supposed to be with the players being students first and foremost with basketball being a fun past time so no recruiting or anything like that, college basketball wouldn't be what it has become today. -
6' 10", 190 lb Center from Pike HS in Indy. https://247sports.com/player/isaiah-hill-46151693/ This is one the new staff is starting to look at. Drew Adams is going to see him tonight.
