He isn't basically a freshman. He's now a sophomore making freshman mistakes. Just because he could've played another year in HS and have been a freshman this year doesn't mean he's a freshman because he didn't do that. He's technically a freshman in eligibility but he still has a year of game experience behind him so that is better even than a typical redshirt. The improvement you see is because he did come early, not in spite of it. If he hadn't come early we'd be seeing last year's Lander instead of this years. I hope he stays and continues to improve. The problem I see is that now it's two coaching staffs who would rather play Phinisee ahead of him and, quite frankly, Phinisee isn't very good. He plays good defense but his shooting is terrible at all distances and the offense often stalls when he's in control. Yet Miller and now Woodson think Phinisee gives them the best chance to win now. Not Lander. He didn't make the sophomore leap. Hopefully, he'll make one before his junior season and he's still a Hoosier when he does.

Let's not forget that he didn't play much last season, either, at around 10 mpg in those that he did play in. So that was another coaching staff that didn't think he was ready for a lot of PT.

I've noticed that, as well. There was one shot against ND in particular that made me realize this. It was a mid-range shot and the ball was 1/2 way through the basket then it popped out. That has to be frustrating.

I hope Hoiberg survives this. It's nice having him at Nebraska since games against his teams there have all been wins for IU. I don't want them to bring in someone better.

Still the final score wasn't far off. IU scored better 81 vs 73.5 but you were spot on for Merrimack. As for individual players, I imagine for most players on the team that will be off more often than not. TJD is pretty consistent and Thompson is getting there. After that everyone is wildly inconsistent. You nailed the overall shooting % for Merrimack 29.6% vs your 30%. The 3 and FT percentages not so much. IU's FT %: 68.8% vs your 68%. But overall it's not too far off which is pretty cool. -

Settles knows his basketball which is what you'd expect from someone who played in college for 15 years. -

How close have these been for fast games? Just curious. -
Player comps for argument's sakes

1. Henderson although I can completely understand if someone answers TJD since they're both studs. 2. Can't answer. I was young when Thomas was playing and don't remember him specifically. 3. Reynolds -
Nebraska at Indiana Game Thread - Noon on BTN

Last season didn't count against his eligibility so I really fail to see how it was a huge mistake to forgo his senior year. 3 years of playing against HS competition obviously didn't prepare him well for college ball and the B1G so I very much doubt that another year would've helped. If he had stayed in HS the Lander we saw last year would likely be the Lander we'd be seeing this year. 1 season of practicing against college players, the bit of game experience he got last year, a whole season of college coaching (even if was Miller), and 1 year of college nutrition and strength training and conditioning have him better off than he would be coming straight from HS this season. He's improved quite a bit. He's still not good enough to get a lot of PT at this point, but he has improved because he was much worse last season. Last season was basically a redshirt season except with actual game experience. Even if last season had counted against his eligibility I would think that passing up his senior HS season was a good idea. Since it didn't count then there is no way it was a mistake. He improved more over the last season than he would've by staying in HS. -

Yes, that was mentioned. My guess is that the mom and agent probably don't care about that and might be looking at some of the alternative routes to the NBA. I have no information more than what Stuhoo posted but that is the impression I get reading between the lines.

Yes, that happened. His first year they had 5 non-con losses (ISU, Seton Hall, Duke, Louisville, IPFW) with only the Louisville loss being single digits with a 9 point loss so even that was barely. Not a great start. -

Prediction League (Game 4 - LA Lafayette 11/21/21)
go iu bb replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Maybe not. TJD only shooting going right means he might get shut out or close to it and Lander leading the team in assists in his 6 minutes of play doesn't leave me very optimistic, either. That's a lot to overcome so a 21 point win would be great. -

He's having surgery tomorrow and they should have a good idea of the recovery time after that. 8 weeks sounds about right from what others have said.

This sucks. Galloway has had wrist injury problems and his wrist was already wrapped. At least the player got elected. -

This is what Galloway brought to the team last year, as well. There was a stark difference in the energy level when he was in the game versus when he wasn't. The same was true of Leal and Geronimo also but not to nearly the same extent as Galloway. If he hits shots he'll get lots of PT. Son of a coach that really understands the game and has a great motor. He's one of my favorite players on this team. -
What affect will NIL have on recruiting going forward?
go iu bb replied to Iufan71's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think a cap is out of the question. That would get overturned in court so fast it would have the NCAA leadership's heads spinning. I believe the ruling by SCOTUS made that a nonstarter. They said something to the effect that the NCAA couldn't limit athletes ability to earn from NIL.
