IU vs Marian (Exhibition) 10/17 7:30 B1G+
HoosierHoopster replied to mamasa's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Have to say I haven’t really been buying into the hype because I haven’t seen him against a goid college ball club yet, but his game looks well ahead of what I expected at this point, solid, confident, poised for a frosh, and ready to score. A lot to like for sure -

Besides the return to actual shooting w/spread offense, actions and movement on and off ball — 27 assists to 10 TO’s. Actual basketball again. I don’t care how weak Marion is, that’s not the point, it’s basketball again. So glad you’re gone Woodson -

I spent like 5 minutes trying to post just their headshots for the fun of it, and when I pasted it listed their names. Lol, deleted. -
Happy to put money down that Moren will find a way to compete well in the B1G

Good pick

He’s just saying DeVries and staff will have to grind — and they will in year 1. He came into the trash pile that Woodson left, and built what looks like a pretty solid team, but obviously that’s in short order and the objective is to bring in elite players in recruiting and the portal. that’s not pre-NIL thinking, it’s immediate post-Woodson thinking. Woodson and Buckner f’d up the program. I’m not one who buys into the we-should-be-immediately-elite just because there’s NIL. It’s a complete re-build, every player. Perfectly “realistic@ to think it’ll take a couple years or so

The posts say things like another fissco move and Brownell etc. agree DeVries can cook without Buckner et al screwing it up, but that’s not what the posts were about

^^ Funny, what a turn this thread has taken

Victor Oladipo - Memphis Grizzlies

The Loong-Lions! And smoothly Vic crossed up the defender, classic Vic. -
Seems like a pretty good backup option imo. https://247sports.com/player/vaughn-karvala-46150191/ "Karvala is loaded with glaring upside. He’s a big, nearly 6-foot-7 wing with a pretty shooting stroke from downtown. He runs well, covers the court, and can rise-up explosively to play above the rim. The key is putting it all together consistently and efficiently in order to impact winning to the highest degree. While this was a breakout grassroots season for Karvala, he averaged 14 points per game on just 38% shooting from the floor and 34% from behind the arc, while attempting roughly two-third of his total from three. There’s no question that Karvala is a projectable shooter. He has a smooth release and showed versatility in his shot-making – on the move, running to the arc in transition, and being particularly good off the dribble. There were times though when his shot could get a little flat or when he could disappear altogether for stretches and not impact the game quite as much as someone with his talent should. As he continues to adjust to playing against high-level competition, he needs to learn to assert himself consistently and find other ways to impact the game when he isn’t getting looks from downtown. Simultaneously, he has to build up his body, finish through contact more consistently at the rim, defend with consistent competitive physicality, and improve his decision-making abilities with the ball (0.8 assists vs. 2.2 turnovers). The bottom line though is that he has extreme tools and could be in the very early stages of putting them all together."

What a guy….

Preseason polls mean jacksh$t. couldn’t care less and what’s the point anyway— anyone who has actually followed DeVries’ coaching career can see he can coach, now it’s about how he builds the program, recruiting and portal.
