Hoosier Hysteria - Oct. 7 2022
HoosierHoopster replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
His early stuff is pretty good, he went way, way South when he landed the hot model. I guess it's hard to be a soul-felt moody piano man when you have an uber hot model girl. :) -
Yeah he was all over Ivey, frustrated him into losing his cool along with his game in the 1st. Galloway’s D when he’s healthy is the real deal,
-
I'm sure he'll come off the bench, and agree his shooting form is pretty bad -- there's been a fair amount of discussion here whether that was caused by earlier hand injuries in high school, I don't know either way, and it does make his O predictable and defenders sag. But I'd say he's a lot more than a hustle player (not that there's anything wrong with that lol). He was 3rd on the team in assists per game (5th per 40 min and poss but that includes Lander and Leal who barely played), which is like saying he was like a point. No, he's not a point, but yes, he helps the guys around him offensively, along with in-your-face D. There's a great deal of competition for floor time this season, a lot to watch to see what develops and with whom, but he's a guy I want to see -- when fully healthy -- getting good minutes.
-
That's another big if imo. X has a wonky looking, bad form outside shot. That he shot 45-plus percent to close the year was big time, but I'm frankly skeptical it's maintainable. He just doesn't 'look' like a strong outside shooter. HOWEVER, there are guys with wonky looking shots that are excellent outside shooters so just maybe (and hopefully). I always think of Reggie Miller (one of my fav players of all time) -- his release was outstanding, but man he dragged the ball up from like way below his waist, which of course is bad form, but hey, one of the (and until Ray Allen the) most prolific 3-point shooters in NBA history. Anyway, I think X is going to shoot it well, especially with the space that I'm betting JHS and the improvements of returning guys gets him, but I'm not betting on 40%.
-
He's definitely underrated, at least outside us IU fans. I'd like to see him improve his out-of-control baseline drives but agree, if (though kind of a big if) he can improve his outside shot he'd be right up there. I still want him on the floor a lot of the time regardless, he clearly makes others around him better, he's right behind the point guards in play development, and he has the Sheehey-like moxey and defensive play that we all love.

It's a good breakdown. Somewhat surprised he didn't speak to Bates' expected jump and the offseason rumblings surrounding him, or where things stand with Galloway, but overall a good overview, imo.

My 19 year old (girl) loves Taylor Swift, has seen her live twice, among other (Billie Eilish etc). My 21 year old is all hip hop and rap, listing his favs would cover a page. My 25 year old is electronic and classical. Car rides involve earbuds lol -
I know right, lol. At my 'core' I'm a rock guy but I'm pretty eclectic, like to mix it up. I like a number of EDDIE's tunes as they mix genres with good beat and melody -- One reason why I'm enjoying this thread -- @HoosierCoop turned me on to Polyphia -- even though they're right here in my backyard, Texas, hadn't listened to them before and they're excellent, also mostly instrumental, the blend / fusion of metal, progressive rock, classical, jazz is something else. Been listening to them a lot lately -- G.O.A.T., The Worst, Yas, Goose, guitar work with the fusion is just special. (side note - I've played guitar since I was a kid, but after listening to these guys have gone back to work on my music theory in my spare time - I thought I knew how to play guitar.... :)
-
Now for something a little different.... I'm always listening for music that doesn't really fit into any genre/box but has beat, melody and makes me think, good driving or workout music. Found EDDIE recently, Aussie producer with heavy EDM-influenced stuff, techno/electronic/dub/trance/dance -- heavy base/beat, mostly instrumental, was picked up by Deadmau5's label Mau5trap. More I listen to it the more I enjoy it, great for drives and just chilling. This one is both chill and kind of intense, pretty cool combination. EDDIE has done a number of variations on it -- Does a number of collaborations -- this one is with Dirty South, "Just a Riff"

Very interested to hear what the feedback is after the event.

B1G
-
I have never looked into that and would like to know too. Our closing stretch is pretty brutal. If we do make the jump to winning the B1G we will have earned it
-
He was aight :)

Here's to hoping Blue Ribbon is at least as accurate as it was last season (picked us 7th last year, we finished 9). https://www.insidethehall.com/2022/09/12/indiana-picked-to-win-the-big-ten-by-blue-ribbon-college-basketball-yearbook/ IU to win the B1G (on the strength of the front court, picked top of B1G) TJD to B1G POY, B1G all conference team, and 1st team All American

(2023) - SG Jakai Newton to INDIANA
HoosierHoopster replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Naah, it's clearly those funky orange sandals :) -
ITH’s take is that we have a tough road to win the B1G — noting 4 of 7 final road games ag a tough group. They kind of have a point. Definitely like the multiple home games on weekends though, better, packed AH crowds will help
-
Thank God that stuff is in the rearview mirror. So looking forward to this season and the road agead.

No there aren’t. Why you need to reach to pretend IU is like a KU is beyond me. No infractions, no actual charges, no investigations since Sampson’s phone gate and IU’s self-destruction of the program. No one here is naïve, of course IU like any other major program, is going to push the envelope where possible— that’s what Compliance is for, but no we haven’t paid recruits under the table etc. And now I’m out of this
-
You responded to my post that IU doesn’t play under the table and has been at a disadvantage to schools like KU and UK who do, by saying Romeo got paid. So that kind of surprised me. I don’t know the full Romeo story, and don’t like even a remote connection but my point was iU hasn’t played under the table - as in recruiting violations, and it hasn’t. If my post sounded snarky wasn’t my intent. Just seems like some want to think others are naïve, that IU has recruited dirty too, and it’s apples and oranges. So back to Page
-
The difference between what Self does - KU, and Adidas for Romeo is night and day. You’re not really putting IU in that camp come on now. The U that self reports itself into oblivion vs KU- Self getting players for cash, Cal leaving 2 programs with forfeited seasons, and on to UK, the most sanctioned team ever, we’re not really having this convo are we? IU is as clean as it gets

Saw the Joshua Tree tour as a teenager, really good concert. For me their music hasn’t stood the test of time, but the Edge had a unique style/ sound for sure, loved his guitar work back then
-
Honestly not that focused on the rankings though JSH is a 5-star recruit -- (18 on Rivals, 23 on 247, 24 by espn). He has a pro-ready body and size (and good for his position), pro-ready ability, is already considered a strong defender, etc., and has been getting recognized for it, along with working out with guys like PG. He has the tools coming in.
