I am a Fife "fan" but at this point, what is the point (hence why he deleted his post too). Woody's obvious flaws caught up with him. He made out with a nice payday though. It is interesting to hear the stories from both sides. Woody's issues were fairly obvious, but Fife seems to have done some weird stuff too.

I don't disagree with this at all. There were many reasons why he got fired, including some in state recruiting gaffes, but DD doesn't seem like he's going to myopically focus on Indiana. That doesn't mean he shouldn't be finding and offering guys that both Archie and Woody didn't or wouldn't recruit, it also doesn't mean it won't be his main focus (which it should be), but he seems more inclined to find guys from anywhere and everywhere.

I agree 100% but it's better to win these than lose them and like what was mentioned, the style of play seems more aligned to what fans including myself have been looking for ie energy and competitiveness. He seems like he knows what he is doing but way too early to tell. A friend of a friend who was at the games in PR said "...You're going to love the way we play this season...". Another one of my friends said "It is funny, D-Rock's coaching philosophy seems to be more like Crean's. Everybody thinks it is great but they didn't like Crean when all he got was a bunch of NBA guys and no in state recruits. It is just kind of ironic. Part of "modern basketball" is high major programs recruit nationally and internationally. Don't complain when we miss out of the 2 or 3 in state 5 stars." Recruiting will be interesting considering his main guy is the same main guy as Crean's.

Posted this on HSN. For some historical context I did some research on the Serbian club IU played. In 2018 they played Kentucky and lost 100–64 then beat Michigan 81–73. In 2019 they played Texas Tech twice; losing 94–92 then winning 76-73. In 2021 they lost to IU twice in Woody's first year 79-66 and 64-53. In 2022 they split with Virginia, winning 92-73 then losing 94-87. In 2024 they played G-League United and lost both 99-81, 99-66.

Think they're mistaken.

Yes, he hasn't played in the league since 2022-23. I have no problem if the Pacers sign him, but expectations on minutes and money have to be set. The Pacers are still a relatively young team, so there's no good reason to play him a lot of minutes or promise him anything but a spot on the team. He'll also need to bring a leadership quality that I am not sure he's shown in the NBA previously. If the Pacers are going to fill a roster spot with a 10+ year vet, that player has to fill a specific role ie a team first, mature leader. If he's going to worry about playing time and his role, it's not going to work and shouldn't be considered. If he's looking to prove himself as a veteran leader, then go for it. Keep in mind he hasn't played even close to a full season (Covid season notwithstanding) since the 2017-18 season. So I don't know what he's looking for in regards to playing time or money, but it has to be based on reality, not ego or the glory days yesteryear.

Knight was definitely not normal. But I too like what I am hearing and seeing so far. Seems like a total grinder, down to earth type of coach. A refreshing change of pace.

Sometimes you offer kids to establish relationships. That's my guess with this one. But this guy wasn't ever coming to IU.

I honestly don't think McNeely helped himself much if at all by going to UCONN. He made Third Team All-Big East and the Big East All-Freshman Team. He most likely would have had the same type of accolades if not better at IU and would have been the same NBA "prospect".

Not sure what the point of having all those guys on the roster is if they are unable to play. Very boring. I feel bad for anyone that went.

They only internalize Woody, forgetting the Archie era which in my mind was way worse. IPFW. ISU. Very long losing streak. I believe 0-7 against PU. Anyone who doesn't think he was worse, has some sort of recency bias. I don't care if Woody's team's underachieved, the Archie era was worse.
