  1. Juwan scored 15 points against Rutgers, bringing his total to 1,174 career points. He is 20 points away from passing Quinn Buckner. Good night. Ugh.
  2. This is real...and if I'm not mistaken, he makes more money per year at OSU with less pressure. Some from Indiana's fanbase already want Archie fired halfway through season two. The reality is that giving coaches two seasons only on a recurring basis will lead to nothing in terms of recruiting efforts and building rosters, team chemistry, understanding of playbooks...the list goes on and on.
  3. Yep, we need some shooting clinics. I've said it before more than once...bring back Tim Buckley or someone like him who knows how to make shooters better. The commentators talked about how every player leaves Ann Arbor a better shooter. Why can't that be the case in Bloomington? Buckley helped poor shooters become better, and in some cases, helped them become great. Granted, he was also blessed to be with a team full of overachievers with an endless desire to improve and take full advantage of the 24/7 access of Cook Hall (Hulls, Oladipo, Watford, etc). This is one of the worst shooting teams I can recall in recent memory as well, and much of the team can't even hit free throws. That requires middle school level clinicians. Why are they back to shooting so horribly from the line? We need a shooting clinic. Then, after the clinic, an entire off-season of shooting for at least a couple hours twice a day.
  4. Some of the blame for the fouls being made in the extended court could be placed on Archie, as it is the coach who is asking him to come out and constantly set screens. Many of his other fouls inside could be blamed on the roster, as he is constantly asked to guard players much bigger than he is...often doing it quite successfully. Yes, he makes some dumb fouls occasionally (and they drive me nuts too)...but no more than any other college basketball player asked to do as much as Juwan is asked to do ("we have to have him on the court for us to have a chance to win"). Occasionally picking up dumb fouls could probably be pinned on about every "leader" from every team...possibly any player on any team regardless of their leadership role. And Juwan is averaging 30 minutes a game. With a healthy and capable roster he would be allowed to rest a few minutes each game. I stand by my earlier statement that Juwan is the leader of this team and I believe he is more than capable. As for BigRed's comment about press conferences, he has placed blame on himself and given the glory to others...repetitively. No, he's not screaming at players during games, but I see him talking in huddles and even calling players out. Maybe he's not a BIG ENOUGH a-hole to be a leader. What would I know? And as for demanding the ball, I see him desperately wanting the ball on a regular basis. The team just loses him in their offense too often. Tonight was a good example of that. He should have had the ball in his hands much more, but instead players were tossing up errant long-range bombs. Tonight, Green was on the bench. And as much as many people hate Devonte's play, I still think he's by a large margin the most capable player at feeding the post. It seems to me without Green, Juwan gets far fewer handles per play than with him. All is just my two cents. I understand people see things differently.
  5. At least I have this as a positive spin. Thank you, Juwan. Juwan Morgan had 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks in Michigan's destruction of Indiana. He now surpasses Cody Zeller, and with his 1,159 points moves into the 39th best scorer in Indiana University men's basketball history. Good night.
  6. I agree with almost all of what BigRed said. The one glaring difference in opinions is that Juwan wasn’t cut out for a leadership role. I strongly disagree on that point. Juwan’s mother was a drill sergeant in the Army, which makes me think he might have leadership in his DNA. He also seems to show a ton of leadership on the court in my opinion...and winning gold jerseys in practice shows he leads by example too. On the topic of leadership, I’m guessing Phinisee becomes the one who shows the most leadership as early as next year...after Juwan departs. He already has it in him, and as the true point guard on the roster, he plays a position that makes him even more fitting for such a role. I also agree with BigRed’s assessment of Jerome’s promise (barring any longstanding health concerns). Don Fischer had said on the radio that Hunter was the second best player on the court in all the practices he watched early on.
  7. Last I heard he was a pro scout for the Timberwolves. I’m not sure if he’s still there or not. I agree though, and I’ve brought this up on another thread. We need the “shot doctor” back in Bloomington.
  8. I know nothing about why he tweeted what he did, but perhaps he made a wish to remain on the team and Archie is giving him another shot after the suspension. Just a thought. It wouldn’t surprise me now if he does leave though, because now he’s embarrassed himself by letting the team down. Weed is not a big deal, in my humble opinion and is certainly not a gateway drug the government makes it out to be, but regardless of all that he let the team down. His teammates and coaches are surely disappointed in him, so if he doesn’t make a break and leave the program, then I imagine he’ll have to work extra hard to regain the trust and respect from his team.
  9. The good news is...Indiana will snap their losing streak against Michigan on Friday. It’s too bad they’ll be playing Michigan at a time when they’ll be more focused after nearly losing two straight, but anytime a team plays Michigan this year is a bad time. With all that said, though, I think they play up for the Michigan game and finally end their embarrassing skid.
  10. Juwan had 18 pts against Northwestern moving him within 14 pts of Cody Zeller’s #39 spot. He now has 1,143 points.
  11. As I said before, I would love to see the “Shot Doctor” back in Bloomington. He would help improve on three point shooting and free throw shooting. And, yeah, he won’t be coming back. If the Wolves send Buckley to Bloomington to scout Romeo, then maybe he can stick around a couple days???
  12. And if it wasn’t for Juwan’s creativity and mobility around the basket, then the clogged lane would have even more of an impact than it already does. If Juwan was on an opposing team, then many of his shots would tick me off and make me say, “That lucky bastard! That was a sh*t shot!” We know differently and know he’s skilled around the rim. Fitzner, it was hoped, would be that three point threat. I was hoping McRoberts would also be more of a three-point threat this year, but I’m struggling to remember when he last took a shot before tonight. Phinisee will become a deadeye shooter from outside, I believe, but he’s still working back into the rotation. Al is a far more capable shooter this year than he was last year, and I hope he continues to improve. Moore is supposed to be a good perimeter shooter and I would like to see him play more than Fitzner at this point, but he’s always playing inside as a big (which still seems a bit out of position for him). I agree the lack of outside shooting is a glaring weakness, but the biggest weakness is lack of depth, which injuries have certainly not helped with. We’re lucky Romeo is (usually) more than capable of creating and finishing in the lane and that Juwan has brilliant post moves that allow him to efficiently score as an undersized big. Clearing the lanes with outside shooting, hitting free throws, and less injuries would make for a much more successful season. We need a healthy roster and we need “the shot doctor” back on the bench. I miss him as an assistant coach.
  13. There will be little optimism from fans after this game, and although one player's accomplishments mean little in the grand scheme of things, I will report that Morgan has now moved into 40th on Indiana's all-time career scoring list with 1,125 points. Had Indiana not concentrated so hard on "getting Romeo going" and instead pounded the ball inside to Juwan more, then perhaps it would have been a higher scoring affair for Juwan today. They seemed to lose track of Morgan in their offensive flow. Free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws...free throws... OH, SH*T! Sorry, I lost myself imagining I was the coach talking to my players the entire bus ride back to Bloomington. This has nothing to do with Morgan's climb. My apologies.
  14. I know the Nebraska game was a tough blow for fans, but at least something positive can be reported here. Juwan finished the night with 17 points bringing his career point total to 1,111. This was good for moving him from #48 on the all-time scoring list to #43. He surpassed Daryl Thomas, Bobby Leonard, Joe Cook, Vernon Payne, and Marshall Strickland. He is now only 9 points from breaking into the top 40. He needs 5 points to pass Troy Williams, 7 points to pass Victor Oladipo, and 9 points to even up with Will Sheehey.
  15. I haven't read all the comments, nor will I likely get around to it. With that said, those that believe Moore is of poor quality and less capable than certain "unnamed players", please consider the fact Moore was the only player with a positive (+/-) last night. Yes, I know that doesn't tell all there is to tell, but it's at least a starting point for measuring a player's impact on a game. Yes, if Fitzner gets on a hot streak shooting again I'll be more in favor of him getting more minutes. Until then, he's not proven anything to me outside of a couple hot shooting nights early in the season that he is any better than Moore. Neither Fitzner nor Moore logged a lot of minutes last night, but with the time given to each Moore once again had more of an impact. I'm not saying Moore will become a great player with more time and experience, but I'm in agreement with some on this forum that maybe it's time he has a chance to show whether he can be or not. Anyone interested purely on a statistical standpoint would agree. Evan Fitzner Clifton Moore Games - 17 Games - 9 Player Efficiency Rating - 13.1 Player Efficiency Rating - 23.9 True Shooting Percentage - .547 True Shooting Percentage - .576 eFG% - .527 eFG% - .700 ORB% - 3.9 ORB% - 16.0 DRB% - 17.4 DRB% - 32.1 TRB% - 11.4 TRB% - 24.9 AST% - 6.4 AST% - 14.6 STL% - 1.5 STL% - 3.5 BLK% - 1.4 BLK% - 4.4
  16. -24 against Maryland +1 against Michigan
  17. Oh, I must have missed that one shot he was allowed to take.
  18. I'm not sure how many minutes he's even logged, but it seems like very few. He hasn't taken a shot yet.
  19. Agreed. One defensive stop was needed. Fitzner is not your man for such a task.
  20. I wasn't censoring anyone. It was a running joke, and that joke had nothing to do with your comment other than you made the comment that sent this thread to 100 pages.
  21. As I said early on, rumor on the streets was that he was waiting for your comment. Thanks for making it 100 pages. We're ready for your final answer now, Keion.
  22. Well, that was tough to watch. I will say nothing more than this tonight. With 14 points, Juwan moves within one point of moving up to the #47 slot with Daryl Thomas. 1,094 career points and counting.
  23. Confused only by Mr Smith's comment. Seems pretty naive, considering the only two players capable of creating their own offense that night were Langford and Morgan. Smith has a lot of potential, but he's nowhere close to the play maker Langford and Morgan are. I hate to say it, but he's not proven he's capable of breaking down defenders and scoring at will as the two above mentioned are. I do like Justin's ability to grab boards. As for Smith's comments, I say, "Whatever!"
  24. Tonight, Morgan scored 25 points in just 27 minutes. He moves into #48 with 1,080 career points. He had a couple fouls I thought were a bit bone-headed, but man is he a scorer with a massive will. I was right he would move up a slot in Ann Arbor by doing everything in his power to will Indiana a victory, but he had a few unusual misses under the basket early on, three freebies at the line missed their mark, and he played fewer minutes than Indiana needed from him, so he fell short on what I'm sure was his ultimate goal for tonight. He's a monster, and they hounded him and made him score some very tough shots. To score 25 against Michigan with the defensive pressure they placed on him is a pretty remarkable feat. I hope the tides turn when Indiana meets Michigan in Bloomington in 19 days.
