(2019) PF Trayce Jackson-Davis to INDIANA
ray replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yes, very clear. All along I've been thinking who will be coming with TJD. I've sort of made him the centerpiece of that class, and wondering who would best compliment him. Now that it seems less of a certainty, I will start dreaming of an additional player...after all this time assuming one scholarship was already accounted for. -
(2019) PG - Tre Mann to Florida
ray replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I really like Mann’s game. I wanted him in Bloomington, but at least he chose Florida over North Carolina. He may have to go to classes in Gainesville, but that was apparently not an issue for him or his choice would have been different. -
Three guys listed at 6'10", three guys listed at 6'8", three guys listed at 6'6", and not a single player under 6'0". That kind of size hasn't been wearing the Cream and Crimson in quite some time, or so it seems to me.

(2019) PF Trayce Jackson-Davis to INDIANA
ray replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I just read some of his tweets. This guy seems to be looking for anything to get people to read his tweets. He's claiming his sources tell him EVERYTHING, including that Fred Glass told him Bob Knight would be at Assembly Hall this year. Why does spouting out unreliable information to everyone in hopes of being the first to state it seem like a good idea? It will only backfire and no one will ever trust anything he says. Also, Rob Phinisee retweeted one of his tweets to say, "Stay away from the fake." Ha! -
The bogus classes scandal across the entire athletic department of UNC blew over so well that it doesn't even get mentioned anymore. However, don't make that extra phone call to a recruit or your program will suffer the death penalty.

Jerry Meyer changed his prediction to Kansas today, for what that's worth. -
(2019) PF Matthew Hurt to Duke

I like the odds of him taking an official to Bloomington. Beyond that, who knows? There's stiff competition for a player of his caliber and skill set. Wow, though, if he signs to play for Indiana............... -

10 made threes with only 1 attempt gives new meaning to, "he's on fire!" I see that it was meant to be a 1 and not a 10. Anyways, 50% from beyond the arc and 68% inside is nice to see. His defensive numbers aren't eye popping and his free throw percentage is a little low at 68%, but he certainly seems capable of scoring. -
This pic indicates he is standing on his tippy toes.

(2019) SF Trendon Watford to LSU
ray replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I agree with you, but why would Hurt mention Watford is trying to recruit him to Memphis? I was merely reacting to the article and what Hurt said. Seems odd, especially if there is no legitimate reason for him to mention such things. -
(2019) PF Isaiah Stewart to Washington

I would love to see him in Bloomington...but only if he is wearing a cream jersey. -
(2019) SF Trendon Watford to LSU
ray replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Yeah, this seems concerning. It could be a number of scenarios...Trendon is willing to go to Memphis if Hurt does...Trendon isn't sure where he will fit in at Indiana with others being recruited...Trendon likes Memphis more than any other and he and Hurt have been considering playing together. This read makes me think Hurt, too, is a Memphis lean. We shall see. So much can change in a young kid's mind, but that quote from Hurt...hurts. -
My guess is that he would have played more minutes and by doing so he may have recorded at least one 20-point game, which I guess is what it takes to be viewed as a basketball player with any skill.

Thanks for clarifying. I can see your position and outlook. I like Davis' throwback style because it isn't played much anymore and few are very capable of stopping a back to the basket big with good footwork. As for the free throws, the entire team needs to be SIGNIFICANTLY improved. I still can't comprehend how players make it to college (especially Division 1) with an inability to score a freethrow at a decent rate. I still disagree Davis is less skilled, but I also have VERY little of Evan to compare him to...so, I don't know jack. I just have the sense he will spend more time outside, which could open lanes and benefit the team in profound ways if utilized correctly. But, still, I am worried about the inside presence...Morgan and Davis have been riddled with injuries. Outside of freshman, we have no other bigs. I would have preferred a "true big" transfer, but I realize it may not be possible or even necessary. Fingers crossed Juwan Morgan has the beastly season I predict and stays healthy.

I am willing to as well. I only jumped into this topic because some people were suggesting Davis has no useful skills for the way a game of basketball is played today. I disagree completely. Davis' biggest weakness has been injuries and lack of conditioning. He can only play in spurts. He could be a major impact in short stints, as I witnessed against Duke (no one could stop him while he was on the court). I never said Davis is the nation's best recruit, but he certainly isn't lacking practical basketball skills, as it seemed to be suggested by another. I am of the opinion that another healthy big was more important, and I don't see this transfer being the answer for that role. I could be wrong. Hopefully he or Race or another newcomer fills that role this year. I don't foresee shooting being the weakness it was last season with or without Evan. Foul trouble to our post players, or god-forbid an injury to Juwan while Davis is still in recovery, would make our inside presence a glaring weakness. Unless I am wrong about the role some of the new additions play and the impact they might have...which I am sure I am wrong about something. I wasn't throwing Evan under the bus, just as I hadn't thrown any other players under the bus. I was standing up for an Indiana Hoosier (Davis) who I believe is unjustly being called out as not significant. I watched the Duke game. If he recovers fully, I am of the belief he will have other moments in other games where his "out dated" skillset will completely trouble opposing teams.

You are right...effort means a lot. If he brings effort like a certain kid from Indiana who started at Vermont, then I'll be pleased. I still don't think he's the magical piece to the puzzle so many others seem to be suggesting, but I'm sure he'll contribute in some fashion...if not, then Archie wouldn't have offered him.
-
I agree, which is why I don't see him as the "perfect fit" like so many others. We have a lot of wings and a couple stud guards already on the roster. I'm not saying his shooting won't be appreciated or he won't have an impact...I hope he does...but if he has a huge impact then it's likely because others couldn't perform to our expectations. He'll likely play the role we hoped Clifton would play (the role Clifton mentioned wanting to play), which was outside. I may be wrong, but I still wish we had landed another "true big" to play inside...if nothing else, to help Juwan, Race, and Forrester in practice. I'm happy for him and I'm sure he'll contribute, if nothing else he'll force more effort from others in practice. However, I don't see him as the big we "needed" to refresh Juwan or play for an injured Davis for lengthy amounts of time.

When someone claims a player wasn't a 4-star recruit when I know he was I will point it out (even though rankings are admittedly subjective). There is no point arguing whether the skills Davis successfully used to manhandle the opposition's defenders during stretches of some very big games is useful in basketball today. It's all good We just disagree.
-
He was a high 4-star...11th best center in his class...and had offers from Arizona, UCLA, Oregon, Connecticut, Indiana, and others.
-
Way more skilled than Davis? Wow! If that is indeed true, then count me intrigued as well. People forget that Davis has not had a full, healthy, well-conditioned season in an IU uniform yet. He was at one time the nation's #1 recruit in his class. He made Duke's defensive post presence look ridiculous. Yeah, he has foul troubles and he's easily winded from lack of conditioning and injuries, but Davis is a very skilled post player. If this guy is "way more skilled than Davis", then look out Big Ten Conference! I doubt he is, but he might have more of an impact next year than Davis will. So, I'm all for this addition. I'm just not going to believe he's way more skilled than Davis until I see more.

I am thrilled at the chance to have TJD sign with Indiana...my top choice in 2019. The number of pages on this thread will likely be far less than that of Romeo's, or at least I hope so. If this thread becomes 700, then TJD waited a long time to commit or there was an excessive amount of craft beer being discussed. Romeo's ended up over 700 due to so much mystery and the anticipation of his decision after a long wait. -
(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
ray replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Note: I didn't read the entire article because I'm not subscribing to do so...but, from what I read, here are my thoughts. The problem with the article is the author is scolding the adults while it was Romeo's choice to celebrate with the fans in the manner which he did. He has been actively (and very generously) engaged with the fans and the community throughout his senior season, and the fans came out to celebrate with him and to offer him support and congratulations. No one knew with any certainty he would choose Indiana. Many were New Albany fans, and they would have been watching on television or online had it not been done in the high school. I think it's an absolute waste of time to write such an article...I hope by coming at an entire community with a vengeful motive helped soothe this poor author's disappointed heart. And, if it didn't...well, then f..k 'em. -

I found the same interest. Other lists have IU 9th when that particular site goes by a scorecard and IU was ahead of one team with more points and behind two teams with less points. If they go through the trouble of creating a scorecard, then why bother flip flopping by way of an eye test? Oh well, it doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme of things.
