After playing in the NBA for 11 years Woodson began coaching in the NBA from 1996 to 2021 for 25 years. In 2021, he left the NBA and has been at IU for 3 years now. All very common knowledge, but stating the obvious here. It has been discussed many times before, coaching in the NBA and coaching in the NCAA are two different worlds. Here’s my point to this jibber jabber. ……Specifically of Brad Steven’s NBA coaching career, he has publicly said many times that he did not miss the rigors of coaching in the NCAA compared the NBA. He said not having to spend the all that time recruit players throughout the year, every year was a huge trade off. The NBA regular season schedule is 82 games compared to the NCAA’s 35 + or - depending on the tournament. Coach Woodson has known this similar NBA coaching mindset for 25 years. Now all the sudden Coach Woodson appears to be way out of his comfort zone about recruiting. JMO I’m not defending him, I’m just saying, maybe he’s just now realizing how much more work he has to do as a head coach with recruiting than he anticipated. I mean at 66, I would imagine the rigors of recruiting, if you have never had to do it, would be very very hard.JMO

There is nothing wrong with her going with him, at all, but when it’s alway Coach and his wife, to me me…, it comes across as light duty, not so important and “I guess I better get out there, honey you want to go with me? We’ll hit Cracker Barrel on the way home, feel.” JMO

I will say this….., being a HS teacher, kids are very aware of, “teachers who are cool, and out going,….as well as older, boring and waiting to retire teachers”. Every school has them. If im a recruit and I see and older coach and his wife, I’m definitely not getting the same feeling as just the coach sitting there by himself or with his assistants.

I thought the same thing too. She goes to a lot of games with him. I sort of get a, “My wife and I are going to watch my grandson play” feel. Lol When I see them together, it looks more like pleasure or “date night” than business…lol

….i agree, that’s what I put, “l think” and “as of right now” before I said a possible grand slam hire. Optics give you that feeling, but there are definitely things that must happen for a grand slam hire.

This was my latest comparison a few days ago. I think and as of right now, Dolson hit a HR/grand slam, hiring Cignetti. I’m sure he thinking, “I know how to do this for the bb program…..How can I get it done?”

IMO…..Coach Woodson and staff’s worst recruiting mistake, and it’s huge, is not landing seasoned ,even average pg from the portal. I don’t buy the “I don’t want to come to IU because of the risk of playing behind a starting X or even Gallo.” That’s BS!! If you come, you will have the opportunity to start and if it works out, be the new starting PG and those guys will play behind you…. JMO

There are four "safe" words that were carefully added to that sentence, ...so to help not sound the alarms.... So stance right now = "currently" and plan = the season is not over yet, but that doesn't mean a change won't occur. JMO lol GO IU!

….respectfully disagree, slightly….. I wasn’t a fan of the hire, but warmed up to it and was moderately pleased the 1st 2 years. It also made it cool that he was a former IU great. That was the slight disagreement. Now, just because he was a former IU great, born and raised in Indiana, doesn’t give him a pass for an extra year.

…now, speakin’ of the U. S. of A., Pikes Peak is pert’-near one of the highest places or levels I’ve been up to. That’s pretty dang gum high, I seriously couldn’t hardly catch my breath. Oh, yeah….you were talkin ‘bout playin basketball at a high level. Yeah, we definitely didn’t play basketball up there, we just walked in the resternt’ and gift shop, caught our breath, got back in the Suburban and back down the mountain we went….It was right nice! (anyone catch my sarcasm….?) wink…lol GO IU!

....I respectfully disagree with you on this....... It really depends on the year, between the BIGTEN and SEC, which conference is better. I personally feel the BIGTEN is more of a basketball conference and the SEC is more of a football conference. JMO I suppose this, also depends on year to year....lol

Why are you so combative? This is a message board of opinions, views and scenarios with one common bond,... to see IU successful and win. I don't agree with some posters on here at times. I also know some don't agree with some things I find important. For the most part, I'm pretty level headed, and try to somewhat understand viewpoints that I don't necessarily believe in or support. ....These message boards are my ONLY social media. As I've said many times, I don't do Twitter or Instagram and I have Facebook but don't use it. I genuinely look forward to these daily message boards with all the news and insight. All of this from a simple message board to talk about the school I proudly graduated from and the University I LOVE. These boards are sort of like a brotherhood to me. ....Let's not forget that we are all rooting for the same team here. Go IU!
