Sadly, this seems to be a key part of the AD administration’s playbook! Strategically dump on fans in season who get extremely frustrated at poor coaching, effort and results as a root cause of the issues…then gaslight with burners turned high during the off season in order to set up false expectations for the coming year in order to cover for their internal administrative ineptitude. Rinse, repeat…the cycle continues.

On Mack, if there was ever a ‘wish I could do that one over’ moment, it’s got to be when he tried to entrap Dino Gaudio while privately recording his ask to stay on or get paid, which immediately reversed on Mack and became the catalyst for his firing w/out a buyout! Bet he wishes he just Armond Hill’ed Gaudio and given him $200k to just sit on the bench and cheer. (I know, that’s more than Armond does most games, but same idea). He brought the AD the recording, and the AD got a huge smile and said ‘thank you so much…you don’t know how valuable this is!’ They certainly DGAF about ‘optics’. On your past…you’ve got to own it bruh! Giving Woody a FOURTH year was a really poor decision on many fronts. Optics be damned…no one cares or talks about ‘optics’ when you’re winning and making a big run in the tournament. Woody hadn’t shown much coaching chops, was carried by Trayce for two years…and had a lot of other red flag that had surfaced at the end of last season. A coach who believes in himself will step right up and accept the $10M+ to take a chance at greatness. One who’s worried about optics, shouldn’t be your guy to start with. In fact, focusing on optics and not on creating a winning culture has been at the root of the great deal of administrative malfeasance we’ve had to suffer the past 20 or so years!

So I guess Baylor was just a couple of spoonfuls short of the religious fervor during the basketball team murder scandal in the early 2000’s. Good thing Drew brought the XL ladle to force the kool aid down everyone’s gullet! ! Plus he tried to blackmail a player by threatening to report their immigration status to stop them from committing to IU during the Crean era. I’m sure it was so he could “save” them. No thanks!

I think it’s waaay too late for that. Woody’s trashed the program and culture from Floyd Knobs to Munster!!! He owes TJD an incredible debt for covering up all the incompetence and dysfunction to get him 2 extra years - administrative malfeasance it wasn’t just 1. …ok, I know it’s just the ‘separation clause’ where it kicks in, but this guy should appreciate what a gift he’s been given to get this position, power, platform and resources for FOUR yrs based on his background and go away both quietly and gracefully. In good faith, he should refuse any further compensation b/c he purportedly cares about his Alma mater…and its going to take a boatload of $$$ to get over the hump he built driving things into the ground.

Are you talking about Woody or Leal having no problem earning $400k somewhere else if they’re worth it? I’m thinking the answer is likely the same for both.

Who could’ve seen this coming? Completely insulting the admin and powers that be forced this on us for another year! Of course they’re not going to bring him back. We deserve more than a simple ‘he built the bridge, thanks mike!’ Or even ‘we’ve decided to go in a different direction’. There needs to be a public acknowledgement of the dereliction of duty here and the wasted 4 years.
