  1. Since we're watching players transfer out of IUFB this off season I thought I would bring up this website to provide a different point of view on how some of these players might be looking at choosing a school. on3.com is ahead of the game by providing a NIL Valuation regarding a recruit/transfer. The site has a NIL 100 list as well. Currently the IUFB 2023 recruiting class is ranked last in the conference with an Avg. NIL Value of $8.2k. This avg surprisingly isn't ranked last. ILL and Maryland are tied at $7.1k and Rutgers is sitting at $8k. Top 5 are OSU - $98k, PSU - $50k, MSU - $47k, Iowa - $27k and UM - $22k just in case any of you are wondering. I'm not trying to promote the site. But since NIL is a brand new variable in the recruiting game I don't see why these valuations will pop up on various other sites and this will become a tool to use for the player to use during his/her recruitment. This is now part of recruiting and isn't going away unless things change at the legislative level. I don't have an opinion on whether or not NIL should be allowed; I just know it's here and part of recruiting.

  3. Yes to all questions. I look at it as if it's a declaration to college football coaches not in Btown saying I'm available now if you're interested. For folks like Wethington and Spegal they now have a FBS resume and might be able to land a FBS scholarship somewhere. Both of them had FCS offers out of high school and I'd imagine they could probably make a few phone calls to Valpo and ISU if they wanted to. But making it public that they're in the portal just allows them to test the waters for potential bites elsewhere.
  4. I don't disagree with you on this at all. I don't know the budget for any school and only basing it on an interview Don Fischer had with CTA this season. I'm assuming all the schools you mentioned above probably have a bigger budget than IUFB. A total assumption and don't really have a clue on this at all. I will however point out that any 4* recruit/transfer that IUFB is recruiting is more than likely being recruiting by either PSU, Michigan or OSU. And if they aren't that means the player isn't "good enough" to make the cut for these schools. So that means they are probably being recruited by a mid to top tier school like oh say an Auburn or Oregon (For example a recruit like Trevell Mullen). If you look at Trevell Mullen's offer sheet it's not out of the question to assume all but maybe two or three schools on that list have a budget less or comparable to IUFB. That's a tough hill to climb to get a transfer/recruit to come play here. Regardless it still doesn't change the lack of funds IUFB is dealing with for transfers and recruits. I think in the long run we'll start to see just how much it's gong hurt the program overall. But man, I hope to all the football gods out there that I'm wrong thinking this poop.
  5. Oh man did they improve after Hiller was let go! I think you and I are on the same page here. I just think they're a little farther from being where I would like them to be. But yeah, they improved for sure. I'm in the dark with NIL just like you but it looks like it is becoming a factor when you hear coaches openly discuss money now. Even Saban is complaining about not being able to compete financially to his conference opponents. This tells me that it's probably a little more of a factor than us poor saps realize. I'm trying to look at it from the perspective of a college athlete. Back in my salad days I had the opportunity to continue on to play at the college level but declined, for various reason. Had money been thrown in my face I might have changed my tune a little. Now just think of money being thrown (from other schools in other conferences) at the best players on a lower tier Big Ten team? I'd imagine they're seeing numbers you and I would have dreamt about at 19, 20, 21 years old. Just from a financial competitive point of view, OSU's 13 million is what IUFB is working against. I'd imagine a lot of conversations with recruits and transfers are cut short once money is discussed. Who knows. I might be completely off about that but I feel pretty good about taking that to Vegas.
  6. Should OSU and Michigan win the semifinal games I'd say that's one heck of a sell to come to IU right now.
  7. I actually understand what you're saying and that's not crazy to say. But it's still has a lot of distance to cover if we're being honest with ourselves. Let's hope Bostad can get these guys to cover that distance in a hurry. If that happens IUFB might surprise folks the '23 season. I still think the biggest hurdle every position on the roster is going to face is NIL dollars. In this example, Bostad might have guys in mind to join the team but the money just isn't there to get them.
  8. There are a ton of players available in the portal. I'm assuming Coach Bell is looking for the right QB to fit his offense. I mean at this current time a total of 13 available QB's (4 of them rated 4*) are listed today alone. The issue is the NIL dollars.
  9. I understand losing players through the transfer portal seems like a sinking ship but keep in mind these players leaving played on the field, and they played below expectations. Good luck to them finding the right spot for them to get on the field. But if you're being honest with yourself, do you see Tuttle slinging it at a school like oh say, any school in the PAC-12 or SEC? I'd be surprised if that happens. Well maybe Vanderbilt. I think the only transfer so far worth a darn is Dasan McCullough. Other than that these players played on an IUFB team, that wasn't great. I guess what I'm trying to say here is all of these players (minus McCullough) jumping ship might end up in the MAC or Sun Belt or fill in the blank. And I was reading somewhere about the stats of actually landing a gig via the transfer portal is pretty low. The biggest issue with the current state of IUFB is NIL dollars. That's the focus we should all be paying attention to.
  10. It's easy to look back with hindsight but the beginning of the end for CTA was keeping Hiller on staff at the end of last year's season. Had CTA let him go this team and 2021 staff is more than likely still intact. This is going to be interesting to watch unfold. The transfer portal is a game changer.
  11. That's not a lot. IUFB will always be the bottom of the conference with money like this. It's like Evansville Thunderbolts money trying to compete against Nashville Predators money. And if/when CTA is no longer with IUFB good luck finding a quality coach accepting a job here with money like this.
  12. I'd be shocked if Allen leaves for Liberty. And dumbfounded if Liberty offered the job to Allen.
  13. Big Ten divisions are the laughing stock of the country. Can’t believe they are representing the west next week. What a joke.
  14. Man, I really hope that's just a rumor about his health. And if it isn't I'm sending him all the positive vibes I got.
  15. I agree with you 100% but so far this year's offense doesn't really operate at all. ;-)
  16. I don't blame Ballard for this current situation in Indy. He isn't coaching the team. I think this season is finally showing just how bad of a head coach Reich is. He doesn't have the Sirianni's and Eberflus' (Ballard hire pre Reich) to bail him out anymore. Who knows though maybe they'll turn it around and go on a win streak.
  17. West Virginia, Va Tech, Wake Forest, and Kansas St. all made offers to him. It appears most of his offers are closer to home. So who knows for his reasons of the decommit but best of luck to this gentleman.
  18. Rod Carey to fill the spot the remainder of the season. https://iuhoosiers.com/news/2022/10/12/football-surreal-return-finds-carey-back-coaching-offensive-line
  19. Looking forward to see if there's any progress with run blocking and pass protection for the remainder of the season. It might be too late but at least there's hope now.
  20. Here's a write up about DeBoer that was just released. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/34675696/kalen-deboer-turned-washington-conference-title-contender
  21. You ain't lyin! They'll end up somewhere that's for sure. This landscape is crazy right now.
  22. I think he'll stick around. In my opinion, UW's program isn't a stepping stone for coaches. It's a place where they want national titles. Keep in mind, they had a chance in 2016 and already has 2 in the trophy case. They fired Jimmy Lake after 2 seasons where he went 3-1 in 2020 and 4-8 in 21. That tells me they're not messing around. However, now that the Pac-12 is pretty much toast he might end up looking for another opportunity. I also wonder if he's going to end being a Brian Kelly where he just jumps from one program to another. Who knows. But as of right now, I don't think he's going anywhere. Such a great coach that I wished IUFB would have kept but that would have required a situation like the Wilson-Allen outcome. No way that was going to happen.
  23. IUFB is currently 3-1. After watching the Idaho game I would have told you they'd be on a two game losing streak right now. Honestly I'm not sure what to make of this team. The way I've been describing it to the non IUFB faithful is, "They have somehow won 3 games." They don't look like a team that's 3-1 but they are. Is that coaching? Is that the players? Is that the competition? I'd say all the above. They've gotten somewhat solid QB play overall compared to last year. He's only 935 yards from reaching last year's season total passing yards. Let me say that again, SEASON TOTAL passing yards. They have a deep threat they didn't have last year due to injury. The run game has some spots of positive outlook. Although it's few and far between when that occurs but it's there. The secondary is healthier compared to last year. The DL play seems to be better than last year. Overall this team is actually better than last year's IUFB. But I get it, it's frustrating to watch this team. But this is a legit question that most of us can't answer, does IUFB win this Saturday at NEB? Regardless, they'll sit at either 3-2 or 4-1. However, to answer the question of this thread, after last season it's not a stretch to say CTA won't fire his OL coach. So for me at least, I think it's safe to say Allen would be the first with Hiller to follow him.
  24. Apparently he's just getting noticed. Track guy that has clocked 10.07 in the 100m. Who knows if we'll be able to hold on to him but glad he's choosing my beloved IUFB first. Also, I would think IUFB will start picking up some recruits out west after the UCLA USC news.
