Did you watch the press conference Self had after? He said they were told to guard James, TB, & OG at will and let ANYONE else beat us. JBJ just hit huge contested shots or we lose. He planned for us lol a nationally televised game as big as it was. Your crazy if you truly think Self didn't scout us. We could use the excuse we didn't scout Martin as well knowing he was gonna hit every shot he took or the whole IPFW team as well. To be elite you scout and recruit specially Self. I'm still laughing. Any coach would have been happy to let Jones go off for 15 instead of OG or TB going off for James. It happens all the time. To his credit if any charges were going to be filed they usually name anyone involved. Haven't seen it in any reports although it looks like he was the only recruit there. I admit I was one that had high faith in JN and a lot of people did, but unless a change is made or he starts getting better, which is possible but it is his vision that worries me. Idk if that can be fixed, but if he can we have a shot past the sweet sixteen and if no one else steps up and he stays this way...I don't see it. Guards always make the difference in March. Also read an article the other day saying Cronk was on pace to be a 1st rounder. IU is awesome at making NFL O lineman. It's funny that some of you think there is no way Crean is on the hot seat whatsoever. The KU & UNC games saved him after the IPFW loss which no blue blood should have ever lost to begin with. Freddie McSwain would have been their highest ranked recruit think about that. I have been one of Crean's biggest supporters period!! His player development is the best in the COUNTRY. The thing is at IU we don't need that as awesome as it is. We should be getting good enough players regardless that just need good coaching. We haven't let him go in the last few years cause there was NO options close to as good as him so why do it? There honestly isn't many out there that I would pick now over him, but there is some. I watch the NBA{sixers} fan more than most and I know Ainge loves Brad, but has also said he wants to see major improvements and isn't afraid of change. If Brad feels the pressure he could very well come here if they cant get Hayward this offseason. Like I said Crean and our team are fine THIS year. I fully expect B1G title & a good run come March. I also expect a middle of the pack w potential to be top 3 or 6-9 next year. If the 6-9 happens and Brad with another year of Ainge pushing for a title doesn't happen I would bet anything he is a possibility. Like I said in my previous post though..I think Crean is our coach for awhile unless he himself wants a change which is highly possible too, he would be highly coveted as well. I wasn't and am not calling for his job, but like I stated next year is a HUGE year for him and it isn't even worth mentioning until this time next year. A lot can change between then as well. Crean still shows the ability to be more than a player developer though and I have faith he can take us where we should be, but he reminds me of the Troy Williams of coaching. His buyout is no longer outrageous anymore though. Honestly for a mid tier team or even a team in the 3-4 range in their conference would probably love to have Crean. SMU always felt like a awesome place for Crean idk why I felt that he would work great for that particular team, but maybe he gets offered some jobs that are just a notch below us that is appealing to him. NC State would be a good place too as well. I could see him going to a B1G team if he is fired just to play us. He seems like that kinda guy. He ain't going anywhere IMO though. Glass loves him. IMO, Newkirk should be benched. RoJo is more under control with the ball. He isn't as quick, but I trust him a lot more with the ball than JN. Even Blackmon or Juwan would be better options at the moment. JN has shown he COULD be our guy, but 4 years in college(redshirt) year concerns me it just won't happen. As a bench guy he could be better suited. RoJo, JBJ, OG, Juwan & TB should be our starters. JN, DD, CuJo & McRoberts who should see only 7-10 minutes should be our rotation. Enough of keeping kids happy and play our best guys. I thought yesterday was on coaching not our effort. The turnovers and crucial misses at the line didn't help. I love Crean and he could very well make us a contender come March, but if we don't make a Sweet Sixteen I believe it is time for him to go. I don't think there is many BETTER options and he will surely find another job and good one at that, but change just seems needed for both parties to flourish. It worries me during the regular season, but not come tourney time. Most of all the teams in the final four usually play similar styles to us. It worries me we could lose more games than we should, which results in a lower seed and then tougher matchups in week one & two, but I believe we will be fine. Butler always seems to either almost beat us or beat us. The missed possession call by the refs and the free throws as well as Bryant falling asleep are what did us in. Fundamentals continue to be an issue with Crean coached teams. I still have complete faith in this team and our coach. Hopefully we learn from this game. Haven't harped about Crean in a long time, but he cost us this game. Missed free throws killed us at the end too, but it was the frantic subs in the first that put us down so much. Give these kids credit for making it a game tho. 7 players in the second half and we had a 9 point advantage. 11 players in the first gave us down 14 points. Butler is playing a hell of a game. This is probably their best complete game of the year and I'm sure they know that as well. The main factor is every run we make they don't panic.
