I have been saying this forever and have been criticized for it in the past. He is an athlete not a basketball player. He seems like a really good kid but he should be playing very limited minutes in short spurts if at all. -

We looked best last night in the second half with TJD and 4 perimeter players. With Race going down I like that lineup depending on matchups of course. Malik is struggling so much and I think those waiting on Geronimo is going to be waiting awhile. Play Duncomb. TJD can’t play the minutes he played last night while injured. Logan has played well in limited minutes against bad competition but he’s earned a run to see what he can do. Gunn needs to play as well. Not sure on the coaching decisions last night. Really didn’t like the JHS drive. We needed more action. If their is one guy on this team I want to see taking a shot to win a game it’s Bates. He’s our alpha. The officiating continues to just be bad. They are scared of The Franimal. I am too for that matter. The Geronimo technical. Bad call on the JHS foul. It’s just awful and embarrassing officiating. -
Rutgers. I don’t watch as much college basketball outside of IU as most on this board but for me Rutgers is must see tv. So well coached and the kids they recruit are as tough as nails. I remember saying after losing on the road @ OSU in a game they totally should have won but got cheated that might have cost them the BIG 10 championship because they are that good. I don’t think that one matters now. Nobody is beating them at their place and they are going to win plenty on the road. This team is the real deal especially on defense. I wish our guys especially our bigs played with that attitude and toughness.

TJD owns that. If he wanted to develop his game he has the resources and people to help him do that. I used to hear talk about guys like Hulls, Dipo, Yogi, and others that you couldn’t keep them out of Cook Hall. I have never heard that about TJD. Maybe that’s unfair or untrue but their is no evidence of it in his game. Sure, guys like Dipo were pushed while he was here but he worked his tail off to get to where he wanted to be. I don’t mean to bash TJD. He has been a great student athlete. He’s frustrating though. I hate that what I will remember most about him is how much he likes to flex against lesser opponents but against really good teams he doesn’t bring the same passion. Their were too many times early in his career it didn’t look like he was always going hard and he’s not Romeo cool. It’s still happening now. He wasn’t going hard at the start of the Arizona game. I didn’t get to watch the Kansas game that closely. This will never happen but I have saw some posts about changing the starting lineup. Kopp gets mentioned a lot and I have seen Race get mentioned. I would start with TJD. If their is one guy to start the game that looks like he’s just playing and not competing it starts with him. My guess is we will see a lot of flexing and raising the roof the next two games and then when the real games start we will be right back here. I guess my point is I wished he was more of a leader. I mean some guys just aren’t wired like that and that’s ok I just wish he was that guy because he’s been our best player but that’s not who he is. That’s something we have been missing for a long time.

This post. Really?

I don’t think he is a Savior but it’s a different game with him. Have you ever seen JHS fight through a ball screen as compared to let’s say Bates? On the other end he could have gotten whatever he wanted against their guards. Don’t know how many he makes but he gets to whatever spot he wants and gets up whatever shot he wants. This game goes down to the end with him so we will never know. I get a sense that in that atmosphere and when the lights shine the brightest JHS shows out. Each game is different. I think we still get smoked at Rutgers with him in the lineup.

Closing in on @Hovadipo. -
I just think in that kind of atmosphere and at that pace that’s where he really stands out. Not sure he would have been as hot like he was against UNC but I wasn’t impressed with the Arizona guards. He would have been a huge difference on defense and he could have gotten whatever shot he wanted against their guards. The only question is how many he makes but I think he punks either of them.

We’re close. Their guards don’t get what they got with JHS. Big difference between JHS fighting over a ball screen as compared to Bates/Xavier. On the other end he could have gotten what he wanted against their starting guards similar to the UNC game. I think our backcourt and wings are better than what they got. The problem is their two bigs. We couldn’t guard them. TJD is going to give up buckets against that kind of size but seeing him not rebound and not getting up and down the floor is pretty disappointing.

Arizona is good. That’s a different game with JHS. Would love to play them again down the road with him. He is better than any guard they have on both ends. TJD has never guarded size. No excuse for his lack of rebounding and running the floor hard though. Not too discouraged by this other than TJD. Seeing a lot of posts that their ceiling is championship ours is sweet 16. I think lot of posts underestimating the effect having JHS has on a game like this.
