The issue is simple... as the season winds down for some of these teams, more coaching openings are created... and there is a finite number of quality/successful candidates to fill those slots... and competition heats up for those schools with openings... supply and demand would suggest that coaches are gonna get paid.

I haven't heard anything, but I'm sure a lot of coaches have skeletons ... the question becomes how big/bad is said skeleton? and without specifics, it's hard to say how disqualifying it might be ... I'm a bit agnostic on McDermott. With regard to the bolded part, if "better than Woodson" is the standard, we're doomed. Just open a white pages phone book and pick a guy.

How can a “bridge” hire be for as long as the guy he’s bridging from? That makes no sense. Woodson was never intended as a “bridge” guy. WQB sold us a bill of goods.

Clearly, if the Indiana administration has proven anything, it's that "high hopes" are grounds for epic failures... and again, having watched IU basketball for almost 60 years, there have been plenty of ups and downs, but Woodson's laissez-faire approach to coaching a college basketball team, what other outcome could there be? The fact that the majority (according to you, re: "there were a few people who were concerned") thought it would succeed tells me all I need to know about their ability to judge the potential abilities of leaders (coaches). Without a change in the decision makers who do the hiring, we are doomed.

So, WQB forced the hire of a former player, long time friend and mediocre NBA coach with no college experience, and there was doubt in the minds of some that it wouldn't end well? C'mon, that is pretty inconceivable ... the odds were incredibly slim that it ended any other way ... and when you factor in the approach that Woodson took to actually doing the job, it left very little doubt that it would end the way that it has. And now we're trying to find a legitimate coach to resolve a 4 year (or 8 year) mess that is the basketball program. I hope there's someone willing and able to do the job... we will hopefully know soon.
