  1. I assume our D was better in the first half.
  2. Made it. Glad my not watching has not held us back.
  3. No way. I mean, only if number of losses is a meaningful statistic. We played for 128 years, of course we have more losses than UNLV. By percentage we're slightly better (not even bottom-10). Beyond that, there are far fewer FBS teams than college basketball teams, Northwestern Basketball has a lower win percentage than Indiana football. They are 40.5% in their existence compared to 42.4%.    And I'd moderately prefer to have the most losses in college football and have been to a Rose Bowl (and other bowls) than have fewer losses than some other teams but only ever make the NIT.   Edit: According to Winsipedia, we're the 92nd ranked program in terms of wins, winning percentage, bowl game records, and a bunch of other stuff:   http://www.winsipedia.com/ranking
  4. Thanks for letting us know about the move guys, changed the topic title.   What's most striking about this game for me? The very nature of saying "The basketball game against Northwestern makes me nervous". This is a team which has never played in the tourney. Can you even imagine saying such a thing while on a 11-game winning streak at home like, 4 or 5 years ago? It's insane what Chris Colins and Jim Phillips have been doing at Northwestern. I hope we crush them so hard that McIntosh is turned into applesauce, but mad respect. I'm pulling for them anytime they aren't playing us.   I was going to say something like "It's what OSU and MSU fans must think when they say they're nervous about our football team" but it isn't even. At least we have been good at football for tiny windows in the recentish past. Northwestern has never been good at basketball.
  5. I'm dumb. I have a bad habit of not paying close enough attention and definitely was thinking you were dalton in Texas for no other reason than your names both start with the same letter. I just barely caught myself doing the exact same thing with Natty and Naples like 2 minutes ago in that we don't need no burger boys thread.   You wouldn't have seen much of him anyway, he only got 15 minutes, most of those minutes will come at the start of the game or the half. He's leaps and bounds ahead of where he was at the beginning of the season. It would be cool to cut some of his games together and just look at the differences. Talking to him now, he's fairly clear that there was not much defense being taught at Indiana.    In general, I agree with you about the Blazers, they just lost so much in the last offseason they couldn't rebound in time for this season. But they have a great young team and I'm happy with CJ staying and our outlook in the next couple of years. You just can't lose 4 starters in the NBA and replace them with young guys without a drop, but if we firm up the front court it's a different ballgame. I'd rather we lose Leonard though. And not even trade him or anything, just "accidentally" leave him in a parking garage. I don't even know why entirely, everything about his play just gets me.   I do hope they can make some noise in the future, the amount of town pride for them is ridiculously high. During the playoffs last year you could just go out into the street and hear hundreds of people cheering at the same time for big plays from their own houses. It was surreal. Largely because it's them and the Timbers for sports franchises. If the NFL expands in the near future, I really hope Portland is under consideration, we would rock the socks off everyone else if we brought half of our Timbers pride into a football team.
  6. Every player who only shot one three, made it.
  7. And if you're someone who discounts the first 3 years, he is 4-2. Improving, but two losses against Northwestern is still pretty embarrassing.
  8. Hey, we also snagged a DC in whom Auburn had interest. That's football school behavior.   And we had a multi-party argument about our standards in football recruiting. And, I'll bet everyone here can name 5 or 6 more players coming in this year than they could have last year.   Now we just need football traditions, another bowl, and to stop forcing students purchasing basketball student tickets to purchase football tickets and we'll be legit.
  9. And why won't he get rid of the football background?
  10. Closer time zones! Yay!   I think they played well and Vonleh is still getting better on defense. It's just a matter of being such a young team and an adjustment over the past few years. This is a definite rebuilding year, but I expect to be a playoff team next year. Hawks really prepped well for the game too and took away big chunks of the offense.   It's tough for me to appreciate the rebuild as much as I should because I grew up with the Warriors as my team and now they're blowing up. So, in the rare instances I watch a full NBA game, it's much more likely to be one of theirs than Blazers unless I'm there live. It's just more fun to watch a great team than a struggling team. But, as an Outback driving resident of Portland I have to embrace the Blazers and stop mentioning the Warriors or else I'm branded a Californian (the worst of all things to be).
  11. This is why no one remembers we exist. Who is staying up late to watch Vonleh lose to the Hawks? He was barely even in the game.
  12. Wow, look at those offensive and defensive jumps for Northwestern. They look like us at the start of Big Ten play. Up nearly 40 spots on D and down almost 20 on O.   I think, and the numbers bear it out, that this game is all about pace. If Northwestern can make us play at their speed, then we'll probably lose. We held on against Wisco but, can we do another slow game? Or can we force them to speed up?   I'm most nervous about this game for one reason: My daughter has soccer practice and I can't watch it live (let's stop with the 9 am games OK? I literally scheduled the early practice to never miss a game because these were still TBA and here I am). Why does that make me nervous? I've missed two IU v. NW games over the last few years. Last year @NW (listened on the radio driving home from the Washington Bar Exam because even rushing through the second part I couldn't get home in time for tipoff) and at home the year before.    I don't know if we've beaten Northwestern while I wasn't watching in the past decade. Hope we break the streak this year.

  14. And I never said luck wasn't a factor, I even gave examples of how luck makes a difference. My comment merely addressed the quotes comment stating one could luck into a National Championship. NC State did not luck into that championship.
  15. You can't luck into a National Championship. There are zero teams who have won a Championship without talent and above average coaching. You can luck into a better draw, you can luck into an easier game or two with upsets, but you can't luck into q championship.
  16. Oh snap, I misunderstood you. Well, that was a waste of typing then.
  17. We aren't going to crack the top-20 in defense this year without an epic meltdown above us. It's just statistically too late even if we held every team remaining on our schedule to .800 points per possession, there aren't enough games left to average out our previous defensive failures. That's why the ranking is informative but it matters more how your defense is playing relative to the other teams at the end of the year than how it averages out.   If we play defense like we have in Big Ten play and offense like we have at home in general (except against Wisco) then we can make a serious run. It's all up to the players and their willingness to keep pushing through and avoid hitting a wall.
  18. I totally disagree that they knew going into it. That's the point of all of these articles, that's what Randle is saying, that's what the lawsuit was about. The NFL has actively covered up the level of head trauma sustained by players, the long-term effects of minor trauma, and the ability of helmets to prevent it. You also have to compare the easy access to information now with the internet to the kind of access people had in the past.    The knees are a little different, the wear-and-tear on players is definitely something we've been aware of for a long time. I think the system is set-up in a way that discourages proper preparations for it, but we are at least aware of the problem. Raising the salary cap and minimum salary would make me feel better about it, but otherwise it's similar to an oil worker. You know you are going to get paid an outrageous amount to work on an oil rig because it's dangerous and isolated, you may think you'll be the one who doesn't have any issues, but you're still aware of the danger. So, the problem is simply the available compensation for most NFL players. If they raise the minimum salary enough to assuage player's fears, they'll get fewer of these articles.   You'll always hear regret about things that leave long-term damage to the body, whether that's people who wish they'd run fewer marathons when their knees hurt later or people who wish they'd lost some weight before it did damage. The human response to health is to only react to poor health and not think about health when we're at a constant and not in pain.   On the whole head trauma in soccer/volleyball thing, the issue isn't major head trauma, which is more likely in those sports, it's the repeated small traumas for 70 plays a game. There is just nothing you can do about that and your kid is much more likely to have a long-term problem because of it.
  19. So, by the transitive property, we just beatdown Purdue?
  20. https://btownbanners.com/topic/9093-indiana-v-illinois-post-game-thread/   Locking for the post-game
  21. Well, that was quite the game. New Records set!
  22. Why are any of these guys still playing?
  23. Thanks for getting that angle to show off the empty balcony.
