Because only three schools have more national championships than IU basketball. Because IU is centrally located in a basketball rich state with tons of local talent. Because IU has one of the largest fan bases with one of the best home atmospheres in the country. Because IU has every tool at its disposal to succeed in college basketball. And it’s frustrating as hell watching them squander those tools year in and year out. Mediocrity is something you expect and accept from a program without those intangibles

I don’t really care what they did 40+ years when I’m forming my feelings about someone. Why would I? Some fans still love Woodson and Buckner because they have fond memories of what they did as IU basketball players in the 70s. I didn’t experience any of it. They’re just names in the record books. My only memories of those two are Mike Woodson’s coaching tenure.

Those comments are directed to the segment of the fanbase that rejects change and refuses to acknowledge that the college basketball world in 2023 is far different than it was in 1983. That segment is part of the problem. Not because they’re “older,” but because of the beliefs they hold.

How do I rail on the older fans?

A .500 conference record and 1 tournament win in three seasons doesn’t earn you another season. Not at a school with standards.

You don’t have to be there when their buddies tweet out pictures lol. 24-hour old account immediately starts defending Woodson when the heat is rapidly intensifying. Very coincidental..

I don’t particularly care about what they were doing decades before I was born. I care about them actively destroying the basketball program I root for now. The cigar smoking, wine drinking, nap loving guy half-a**ing his job, and the guy forcing him down our throats, aren’t going to be able to take the heat off themselves by pointing to their tenures as players 40+ years ago. Not a chance.

Woodson and Bucker are actively destroying their IU legacies. They will be utterly despised by the vast majority of the fanbase this time next season. How’s that for “legacy”?

We need to lose out. If you want Woodson gone after this season then that should be your hope too. The administration won’t fire him without it happening.

This is how it seems to go for every IU coach. They start, there’s hype around the program which leads to landing some good recruits, we suck, and recruiting dries up. It happened with Crean (he survived the longest), it happened with Archie, and it has happened with Mike Woodson.

It’s like the fanbase is being held hostage by Buckner and Woodson. Like dude, IU will give you your money. Just go away please.

Duke didn’t want him anymore though so they were fine letting him out.

Woodson couldn’t plug a few holes in the portal last offseason. A year later, after a far worse season, he’s somehow going to be able to build an entire roster? LOL. Firing Woodson is the answer. Anything short of that is just rearranging chairs on the Titanic.

Mike Woodson is shameless when it comes to excuse making. The idea that he was caught off guard by JHS going pro is so utterly ridiculous.

I doubt it. None of them really give any signs that they get particularly upset about losing. Woodson doesn’t strike me as a particularly demanding coach. They get paid a lot of money in NIL. They’re probably pretty content with their lives right now.

It was unnecessary, arguably unwarranted, and (I think) raised the buyout figure in the event of a disaster like this season. No one was coming to hire Woodson away from us. His first two seasons were better than Archie’s tenure but nothing to get overly excited about. I just really don’t think a nearly 25% raise was deserved at the time. It was a classic IU overreaction to positive developments.

I don’t disagree that culture guys are important. I just don’t know that we need to have 3 of them all on scholarship. If your 1-11 guys are good enough then it’s probably fine. But, well, Woodson’s roster isn’t even good enough 1-5 lol.
